@@stephenbyrne2170 what the comment above me says, and also moving a body will mess up getting the finer details of a murder, like for instance where exactly the attack or incident took place.
Johnny Depp and Tim Burton at their very best. Loved this as an emo teen and love it even more now. Tim was doing what came naturally to him, not pandering to the mainstream but not going out of his way to be weird, Johnny's performance is understated and incredibly entertaining, the actors are all legends, the atmosphere is amazing and Danny Elfman was on point with the music. Definitely the best of Burton's and one of my favourite films of all time.
Tim Burton at his best, making weird films for weird people. He went wrong with the likes of Charlie and the chocolate factory making weird films for general audiences that just don't hit all the marks
Contaminates the crime scene. At least in those days might as well ask where and how the body looked like before he moved it without contaminating it further
I also just love the historical setting as it takes place right after the Revolutionary War and the murdering ghost is that of a Hessian soldier. Hessians themselves are a fascinating aspect of the American Revolution, as they were terrifying and ferocious professional soldiers from the German principalities and were quite ruthless in combat.
I just watched this today johnny depp is adorable as ichabod crane He is cheeky witty sweet polite I would love to have him round for a cup of tea and a biscuit
I wish the local cable networks played the hell out of this movie in October instead of Michael Myers marathons. Not that i don’t enjoy the Halloween movies (the first two anyway) but this movie deserves more respect. Yes, it took massive artistic liberty with the story but still, the final product was great.
I saw this movie as a kid and have been hooked to it ever since. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is my favorite story and this film introduced me to Tim Burton. I have it on blu ray and watch it every year on Halloween altho I will watch whenever I'm bored I never get sick of seeing it. It is probably my favorite movie at least in my top 5 of ALL TIME.
I’m an Ichabod simp I just love him so much. So smart yet cowardly, a man who can dissect dead bodies often faints at the sight of blood. I’m now obsessed with this movie, I’m hoping to be Ichabod for Halloween. I just can’t pinpoint the accent he uses! It has British properties with the way he singles out vowels like a and u, but it’s very subtle!
I keep coming back to this movie...the cinematography is gorgeous, amazingly well acted with a touch of that unmistakable Tim Burton awkward humor with an incredible cast. A Gothic masterpiece.
This scene is great because it's got a morbid humor about it one can only find in a Tim Burton movie. I get a chuckle when Ichabod is trying his best not to lose his lunch by utilising his odd methods of his work. The way he says, "You must NEVER move the body!" is hilarious as well as his "....Because..." Tim said he was directly influenced by the classic Hammer Horror films for this, and boy, is it obvious. Having Christopher Lee and Michael Gough in it very much cements the influence. In fact, this movie could have been released back then by HH, and it would have fit right in. I think Roddy McDowell would have likely been picked as Ichabod. That's who Johnny seems to be channeling in his role as it is.
Tim Burton knew how to use his muse, Johnny Depp. The two invented a brand-new screen persona: the campy, somewhat delicate anti-hero who’d rather run than fight, but still gets the girl. A great Hollywood team.

Yeah, this version of Ichabod Crane is much better than Irving's version. In his, Ichabod was only interested in marrying Katrina Van Tassel out of money and was a school teacher. It's nice that Tim Burton changed the characteristics of Ichabod, makes the movie more interesting.
