Isn't it beautiful?! You traveled past my elementary school, my high school sweetheart's farm, the churches I went to, my cousin's house ...and my road at 44.48. You probably have no idea the level of American history you traveled over. It's crazy here. I grew up here (Varina), lived all over the country for 23 years, and returned. It's still much the same out here and we are FIGHTING to keep the strip malls and concrete out of here. We love it this way and it makes me happy to see you rate it #1. I agree. Thanks so much for this video!!!!
I rode on 7/27/21. 86°... pleasant. Beware when getting near Jamestown. Lots of driveways, community entrances. Some have Stop signs , Yield signs or no sign. Pay attention to ALL of them. Thanks for this.great post.
You are my new hero. I am turning 45 this month and I want to do a century ride this year and I've decided that I'm going to do it on the virginia capital trail. Thank you for this video and all the others that capture the beauty of our area trails. You're so awesome at showing all the facts and stats. You are helping a lot of people that ride in this area and others that want to come visit. You're awesome. Thank you
As soon as I and my friends are vaccinated we are headed to Richmond to ride this. Out one day, stay overnight, and the ride back the next day followed by enjoying Richmond's breweries. I can't way...
Oh! I forgot to mention that I think I had a mild tailwind and toward Williamsburg is slightly downhill. The returning trip will be a little different. Have fun and a safe ride!!
Exceptionally well done video capturing your west (Shiplock Park) to east (Jamestown) ride on the “Cap.” Have you ever considered adding a voiceover post ride? Your viewers (that haven’t ridden The Virginia Capital Trail) would gain a great deal of insight. Yes, cyclists planning a trip to this Ride could review the Cap’ Trail Foundation’s website- and probably “fill-in the blanks” related to whatever a rider needs to know. I happen to live in Richmond and enjoy riding on the Cap’ a few times a week... A companion voiceover would reflect how much the course really does change from segment to segment. Since my schedule is flexible, I’m able to avoid weekend Trail riders that may lack bike handling skills, which often increases your heart rate for the wrong reason. I reserve weekends for road rides far from Richmond on 600 numbered county backroads. Admittedly, I advanced some of the footage along Route 5 where (we) riders lose consciousness of the “asphalt ribbon,” but I did check your speed in a few locations suggesting that I could be spinning faster at that juncture on my next ride ;) Thank you for the outstanding post!
This post is interesting to me. I will be visiting the US in July-August this (2022) year. I have a daughter (Australian) that is expecting in late July living currently in Williamsburg. A good warning about the weekends.
It doesn't matter to me, just pointed it out. I loved the ride, I am in the process of virtual riding every state and every capital of every state and loved that ride.
It's wonderful they made such a nice trail, I'm eager to buy a nice bike and attempt to do the 50 mile trip. How much water did you carry? I have a camelback but not sure if it'll be enough.
I had at least 10 or more bottles of water, coke, Gatorade, and other drinks. There are several stores along the way so you don't need to worry about running out of water.
Inspiring ride! I ride the Capital to Capital trail almost every Weekend and love it always. However my distance, speed, and power averages are much less than yours. Your average speed going up the hills from the City of Richmond is now my goal, rather than huffing and puffing at 5 or 6mph like I usually do 😂
Sorry, didn't get this on time. I am still new to UA-cam. Just google for "Virginia Capital Trail Richmond Trailhead" and follow all the way. You can't get lost.
Great video! What kind of bike do you have? You were averaging some pretty good speed most of the way. My goal is to ride down from Richmond to Williamsburg at some point this year.
@@RideBicycleUSA I plan on doing the 52 mile trip down, stay the night and then come back the next day. Definitely not up for an up and back in one day
Great vid! I’m out on the cap trail all the time and was out there earlier that day. Very hot! Those first two inclines downtown are a beast, aren’t they? 😏 Looking forward to another half century for the va cap2cap ride in May. Happy riding!
Darrel Peters you mentioned inclines (which are ok for me) but are there declines? I’m looking to roller skate on a trail but am looking for minimal downhill ..ahem.. _adventures_ as I’m still sort of new to skating. Is this a good option? Is it mostly flat ground?
Ride Bicycle USA was this comment intended for me? None of your comments seem to be directed to the asker/ commenter 🤷🏼♀️ While _I_ don’t intend to skate the whole trail I do know skaters who have (both in-line and quad) -its not an impossible thing to do 😊 but I just wondered if the trail was very hilly or mostly flat ground.
I do know the importance of safety reason for the stop signs and lights. I do cross without stopping only when safe enough. I do however always slowdown to check first. Thanks..
@@RideBicycleUSA This is how I imagined my videos, but so far haven't been able to do it. I'll take another look at Virb. Did the camera provide GPS telemetry, or did that come from a different device?
@@jack.m.rogers This video was done with Sony HDR-AS300 which has built-in GPS. I am using Gopro9 starting late last year with Garmin Edge 810. No, not for this ride. It was faster and easier going to Williamsburg but took almost 6 hours coming back. I was totally exhausted. I have added a motor and solar to my trike just over this summer.
@@RideBicycleUSA Thanks for the reply. You were reaching some good speeds on some pretty flat terrain there. I'm only 45 minutes in to your video lol. I'll subscribe. Thank you for posting!

Try "Great Shiplock Park" for the parking. The parking lot is small so get there early and avoid sunny day.

I'm coming from the other direction, Williamsburg: Can you make it Williamsburg to Richmond?
Yes, why not. I did round trip for this ride.
This goes by the same bridge, river more than once, how can that happen when you are going from start to finish and not circle.
I might have made a mistake while editing the video. Please let me know the time stamp and I can check.
Not too many people on the trail midpoint. Was this ride during the midweek?
Actually it was on Saturday but the weather was hot.
What's with all the stop signs that nobody stops at? I was like he keeps running all the stop signs.

Hey, How did you get that overlay with all the stats on the video ?
Sony as300 camera has gps built-in and comes with software.
Where can I get that camera?

mostly alone.
great video how long it took you to get there? 3 hrs?
Yes, little over three hours. I have a weak 2 cylinder engine. Coming back took 5 hours
If you mean driving there from Baltimore to Richmond then almost 4 hours because of traffic.

I am using HDR-AS300 because the camera has good stabilization function compare to others (Garmin and GoPro) for $300 price range.
