    Great review as always guys. Like a lot of Makita users I initially got my knickers in a knot about the lack of backwards compatability of the XGT line. It has since occured to me that Makita probably isn't aiming at the average tradie with their 40v tools, and certainly not at the DIY market, but rather the extreme heavy duty, maximum power with money no object end user (such as large construction companies), who would be willing to invest in a new line if the extra speed/power means they get through the work faster. At least that's my reading of the strategy. I am not about to go to 40v any time soon, so as long as they keep supporting their 18v line, I am happy.

    Another great review fellas. I've not seen many other tool guys give such honest and informed opinions on stuff as you boys. Cheers.

    Good trade review guys. Most power tool companies don't seem good at getting the ergonomics right. Be it too heavy, weird switch positions, strange bit or blade releases etc. When a trade user works with a tool they instantly find what should be obvious faults. You will never get a one tool suits all but some things are just wrong and I wonder given the vast amount of money spent on R&D how these aren't picked up on. A sabre saw has a reciprocating rod drive how hard can it be to build in a shock absorber or have the back mounting point cushioned. Simple rubber mounts transformed a Norton Atlas engine from vibrating its guts out to rideable 60 years ago. Surely we have moved on.

      it is surprising actually, I agree. Thanks for the love Dave.

    I would just keep using the Makita 36V system with 2 batteries. This 40V system is an an investment into a completely different battery platform. At least Metabo and Dewalt have some compatibility with their 18V tools. Milwaukee has full compatibility. I think this 40V system will fail for sure.

    • @cire9984
      @cire9984 3 роки тому

      I don't think it'll fail. Makita is big enough to basically force it to succeed. The demand for high powered tools is there, and this is Makita's answer. The others are going for a system that's compatible and instead detects if the battery can handle higher current, thus getting high power on the bigger batteries. Makita can't go that route, because that'd require the newer bigger cells. With those cells, the batteries won't fit into many existing tools, especially the 2x18 ones. They didn't really have a choice.

    Are you saving the Circular Saw and the Hammer Drill for last? I don't do as much demo as I do framing, so those 2 I am most curious about. Apprehension is killing me!

    Great video. You guys were disappointed with how much the saw vibrated; but you also have to remember that it's a recip saw and most of them just don't have very good vibration dampening. I'd personally like to see a similar vibration dampening system as most rotary hammers with the rubber iso-mounts on the handle.

    Why don't recip saws have a screw in side handle like some heavy duty drills?

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  3 роки тому +1

      I think it would be useful sometimes, but in the way at other times. It isn't REQUIRED like a drill, because it doesn't pose a rotational torque risk on your wrists.

    Keep making fun of the idiotic Imperial system. I can’t wait for us to switch!

    • @jps101574
      @jps101574 3 роки тому

      Ya. Saying 75 mm is much easier than saying 3 inches. Say what you want. The imperial system with inches and feet is faster and better system for common, everyday measurements. Metric is a system for science and international trade.

    • @thetruth5210
      @thetruth5210 3 роки тому

      @@jps101574 Yeah, about that. When you go to buy a new Circular saw blade is it easier to remember 6 1/2 and/or 8 1/4” or easier to remember 165mm and/or 185mm. It is easier to say it is easier to type and remember.
      Cherry picking a whole number in imperial shows more of the flaws of the system then its attributes.
      Quick AND NO Googling
      How many inches in a foot?
      How many feet are in a yard?
      How many yards in a furlong?
      How many feet, yards and/or furlongs into a mile?
      How many yards and/or miles in a league?
      For a system that you advocate for, I bet you could answer 50% of these correctly without the help of a search engine and likely a grown man.
      How far do you think a child has to progress in grade school before they can answer this about the metric system?
      If it was a better and easier system to comprehend then...
      Why does the US military use the metric system?
      Why does NASA use the metric system?
      Why do doctors and pharmacists use the metric system? By the way when they switched from imperial to metric the amount of child overdose deaths fell to 1/3 of the previous year. Because those teaspoons and tablespoons are just so easy and intuitive...

    • @jps101574
      @jps101574 3 роки тому

      @@thetruth5210 I already conceded that metric is superior for science and trade. For everyday people who work with their hands, feet and inches are easier and more practical to use than meters, cm and mm.

    • @OZToolTalk
      @OZToolTalk  3 роки тому +1

      I have said for a while, what you are saying right now. The imperial system has advantages when looking at measurement ranges in the 100mm to 2-3m range. Because inches and feet are measurements that are much better visualised than mm, cm or metres. What we REALLY needed, was to make the DECIMETRE (100mm) a commonly used unit of measurement.
