2023 Not-for-Profit (Large) Nature Inspiration Award-Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School is the winner of the Canadian Museum of Nature’s 2023 Nature Inspiration Award in the Not-for-Profit (Large) category.
Located in Gatineau, Quebec, the school developed the Kindergarten Nature Immersion Program in 2012 to create a calmer learning space and promote play-based intellectual exploration. With an adapted curriculum that meets provincial standards, students spend five hours a day, year-round, in nature, cultivating an interest in the natural world. They’ve even established microsystems where they can observe the effects of climate change firsthand. This program has contributed to the students’ social and emotional development, as well as their health and well-being.
