Brilliant! Thank you kindly. This is exactly what I required and that is to see how to remove the shroud and aux equipment. Cheers for that! From a Bush House in Titirangi. NZ 🙏
Legend This is exactly what i was looking for You are almost the only one on youtube has some videos for the wrangler with crd engine Keep it up mate 👌🏼
Thank you for sharing . I just bought wrangler from a dealer a few days ago and driving a week now suddenly i see smoke coming . I don't know what it it . I've been research a couple videos so this tell me I think its clutch fan ,well I hope it is . If not thermostat next maybe water pump 🤔
Hi! Great video, I am struggling with mine as I cannot get the 36mm nut to budge to remove the fan, I wedged the largest screw driver I have, after breaking 2 smaller ones and tried with a massive spanner, it just won't go... I am rotating it counter clockwise like in this video and all the others I found on the CRD engine... Should it be so tight? What would be your recommendation in my case? Thank you!
Yes sometimes they can be super tight if they have never been off.. try a good quality penetrant spray, soak it a couple times and leave overnight and try again in the morning. I've heard you can get creative with a big shifter and pipe wedged against the ground and crank (but not start) the engine and the force will crack the nut.. I'm sure there would be a vid or write-up on this if you're game. I would soak, and use more leverage eg a long pipe over the screwdriver
fantastic vid mate .. I have the same car as you have with 240000 km . do these engines last? are these good engines? I have no issues with my car I'm just wondering how many km these engines are known to last before big problems arise .. I will really appreciate any insight you can give me..thanks
Maintenance is key, I was doing oil every 5-7k, imo I think these engines in the JK suffer from heat a bit, particularly where the cat is located up near the back end of the block, #3 bottom end have been known to go. So preventing any overheating (even more so with the auto) is important
I am diagnosing my coolant temperature rising and I have replaced the thermostat, checked radiator for leaks and flushed the system. Now I am wondering if the fan clutch is the problem. Still slowing rising in temps when I am at high speeds. Also wondering if winch is blocking airflow.
Thanks a lot for the video Adam! I need to replace the clutch on my dad’s 2015 jk crd, do you know if the one you used is exactly the same for newers 2.8? I don’t know if I’ll go with the severe or heavy duty. Thanks!!
I'd had the severe in prior, thought I'd see the difference, the severe kicks in earlier so runs full power more often so will use a lilttle more fuel. Only minor though. Heavy duty seems to still be going well 👌👌
hi dear I have a crd jku 2013 , and thank you very much for your nice video .Can I ask why you change hayden severe duty ? I have 2905 hayden and will change my factory style clutch with hayden. What about the hayden life time ? and 83 nm torque given in jeep torque paper for fan clutch metric 36 mm main screw , I cant see you are not using torque wrench .İs it need or ok? best regards i
Hi! Great video. I have some trouble with my clutch. I looked at references for clutches but the GMB is not declared like a compatible part for 2.8crd. I found a GMB 920-2390 at really good price. Is it okay to mount it on my 2011 JK 2.8 crd ?
@@VideoShowMeHow I found a GMB 920-2390 for 26$ on Rock auto. With customs to Europe it's twice the price but it still a gooooood price. 250$ for Mopar one.
I have a different issue with replacement. Ordered 55038106AA fan for my KJ 2004 Liberty to replace my original konked clutch from B/View JHB Jeep Parts Agent. MOPAR part arrives in a box with the same number on the clutch face but the shaft is 6-9mm longer meaning it touches my electric fans. The nut on this clutch has slots where mine doesn't. I received a message from FCA parts (they refer to factory saying the pump or the fan shroud or radiator isn't standard. ) My R3600 ZAR issue is the fan clutch that came with the car fits perfectly and appears Jeep is forcing a universal replacement from the OEM on me that I cannot use unless I change my car to fit it. Why is their different part with heavier fins and extended nut my fault? I notified & returned the part within the week and 2 weeks later now have to strip my car again to take another photo to show the 55038106AA on the front face even though I have explained this. Don't the agents know or are they chasing angles? ps. Try wrapping a cloth around the 36mm to hold & align it so you can smack it with a 4pound hammer. Hold the belt pushing the tension tighter on LHS with your left hand and shock the nut loose hitting the end of the spanner. Takes around 3 hits. Grant Giliomee
hi Adam, great video as always. Keep it up! I followed your guide but for a different purpose, which is to replace my serpentine belt and tensioner. I tried to remove the fan so that I have good access to the serpentine tensioner but failed miserably. In fact, I broke my flat head screw driver when trying to unscrew the fan clutch counter clockwise after spraying with penetrant. In the end, I could only change the serpentine belt but not the tensioner. Any other suggestions? It's really a pain in the a$$ .. lol .. I had to also cut out the bottom part of the shroud to get it fitted back .. ha ha ha Thanks!
Hey mate hope you're well! Thanks for the feedback 🤙 You can replace the belt & tensioner from underneath (sorry to say!) If the fan clutch hasn't been off for a while will be tight, spray and leverage my friend 😁😁😁 (maybe with a beefier screw driver or even a tyre iron?)
Hi mate how have you found that fan so far? I put in a gmb 920-2400 about 6 months ago which has been great although very loud but defiantly keeps it running cool, well up until today it started to heat up and couldn’t really hear it roaring got it home and it seemed to be locking up again bit annoying but might have to change it again, might go with Hayden
Hey mate so far so good, I went the heavy duty over the severe (had the severe on the Hayden). I got a couple years out of the Hayden so hopefully at least the same from the GMB 😬
Is there a bearing contained inside the fan clutch assembly? I’m getting a squeaking sound but not sure if it’s the clutch kit or behind it. Thank you!
I don't believe so. To find the squeak you could always do the old hose pipe to the rear trick, then point the hose around the engine bay to isolate the noise
Hi! I have an 08 jeep unlimited. when I idle or drive 25 ish it starts to over heat but on the highway the temp stays on the halfway mark. fan was working, we changed the thermostat and now the fan isn’t working. But still driving okay on highway like said above. Do you think this is what I need to do to solve this problem?
Hi, is it a diesel or petrol? If petrol they have any electric fan only. If the fan was working I would start by checking the plug and if all ok then fuse. Hope that helps!
The fan is not supose to spin on a cold engine it works from heat from the rad to operate the viscous fan liquid it should barely move on as cold engine cold rad otherwise rad water stays too cold wen Stat opens opens cold water shuts it too quick people thing there supose spin all time but there not

nice video! i wish i knew if the fan clutch in my 2003 wrangler 4.0L was a Standard or a Reverse rotation.

What do you mean by lefty loosy … is this clockwise or anti clockwise ???
Lefty loosely eg turn to the left/anti clockwise to undo, Righty tightly eg turn to the right/clockwise to tighten 👍

Thanks Chris 👌 I think the KK has the same (with some minor differences) 2.8 VM engine?
