    I have and have used both for 2 weeks now and find the 512 model much, much more usable when I'm on the road. The other model does great in dimly lit indoor areas, but ANY overhead lighting really makes the anti glare worth the premium

      Agree, it depends on where and when you use your deck! As you can see from us trying them outside, both pretty painful but the anti-glare does help.

    I got the 512 Anti Glare, been messing with it for about a week. I was worried that it would make the colors and brightness dull compared to the other models. No worries. It's nice and bright wherever I have played it. Colors are crisp in many different styles of games I've played. I like how any overhead lights are just washed out. There's never that extreme reflection you get from a glass cell phone, for example. I hope this helps you decide!

      I wouldn't get a 2TB SD card unless they make them to the same spec as something like the sandisk extreme / extreme pro. Every time you run a game for the first time, the compatdata steam needs is installed there, even if you already have the data required already installed for another title. @Alexandro I don't have a link (probably wouldn't be of much use, because i shopped in German online stores), but i picked the SanDisk Extreme 1TB A2 U3 V30 micro sd card (155€ on sale) and the Brotect AirGlass Matte screenprotector (set of 3 for 17€). The protector says its made from "airglass" but it feels like plastic (and i can cut it with scissors). I had to trim it very slightly on the corners so it'd fit better on the steam deck display - the deck has slightly rounded recessed corners, and the protector was pretty square.

Everyone should go with what they can afford and what they want of course, but keep in mind its overall cheaper to only buy once. If 256 has more than you will ever need then why buy more? but if you think you'll need more...That answer is different for everyone. There's an issue with the 64 model you don't mention here, in that SteamOS still installs all its compatdata on the main drive, not the SD, regardless of what you set as the default. I have about 2TB worth of downloaded games and essentially zero free space on the internal drive despite zero games being installed there and only the bare minimum proton stuff (no customs). A factory reset clears it, but once you've run the games again, you're back in the same situation - not enough storage for updates to complete successfully. I wasn't going to swap the eMMC drive, but am now, just because of this.

    • @insu_na
      @insu_na 2 роки тому

      If you know your way around Linux, you can `mv` the compatdata directory to your external drive and then do a symlink to it `ln -s /path/to/external/directory /path/to/internal/compatdata`
      as long as you don't remove the external storage device while the deck is running you shouldn't run into any issues with that

    Hi, I didn't seem to see it included in the video so I'm asking here, what did you think of the difference between the two screens in terms of image sharpness and definition alone? I say this because there are many people who believe that the matte screens look worse than the glossy ones, and I wanted to know if in this case it is so or if on the other hand the definition is exactly the same.

    • @TechNuovo
      @TechNuovo  2 роки тому +13

      It's a difficult one really because the screen quality in the end are so close. I wouldn't say the sharpness is affected too much by the matte screen. It still produced a nice sharp image, but of course the slight brightness increase of the non-matte screen aids in that sharpness at the sacrifice of colour saturation. But I wouldn't say any of this is night and day difference, and I still think users will be incredibly happy with the 512GB version.

    A good comparison but I'd like to say that the screen isn't a nice Matte screen on the 512GB therefore reflections are pretty bad still and light diffuses arguably making certain scenarios worse. I think ideally most should go with the 64GGB or 256GB and just slap on a screen protector, buy an NVMe M.2 2230 SSD for the 512GB upgrade for 60-70 USD and spend the 60$ on a mSD card which is equal to the price of the 256GB and you get 2x Screen Protectors, 512GB NVMe SSD and a 512GB mSD card for the same price as the mid tier.
    The Anti-glare is decent but tbh there are only going to be a few scenarios where it becomes a real issue besides slight adjustments or playing in some kind of shade or against the sun. And the lack of a natural matte display means the colors are washed out by comparison. Just not worth it imo. I'm keeping my 64GB. And I already have my memory and screen protector.

    • @insu_na
      @insu_na 2 роки тому +4

      I have a regular PC monitor that has an anti-glare coating or etching and the difference between that and glossy are night and day, imo. It's true that you get *some* reflections from off-screen where the source isn't even directly reflected by the monitor, but it's so minor, compared to being able to do you make-up during dark scenes in a movie or game on a glossy screen, that I'd choose anti-glare any time. Image clarity is not affected in any way that I could tell. If I look at it very closely every pixel is well defined and doesn't wash into other pixels. Now the deck might obviously use a different technique, I can't speak for the quality of theirs, but in general anti-glare coated/etched glass is *imo* far superior to glossy.

    I have the 512gb arriving tomorrow, I think I'm just going to sell it ebay. Every review says the screen is duller, less sharp, and doesnt do much better with glare than the other two models. And apparently the "fastest storage" they advertised isn't any faster than the other two models, and barely faster than SD cards. I'm not really sure what the extra $250+ went towards besides an inferior screen and a hugely overpriced storage.

That said, when switching back to my Switch OLED, it's pretty jarring how much better than the Switch screen is. Which is to be expected, but it's a massive difference.
      That said, Steam Deck has still managed to take over most of my handheld gaming because of it being a PC in handheld form, which is something I've always wanted. I do hope the next iteration of Deck has an OLED screen, though.

    I don't like seeing my reflection when I'm using devices. If I wanted a mirror, I'd go and use one. For that alone, the anti-glare screen was worth it. Also, I'm a dev and I've mostly dedicated the 512gb SSD for my (full) work setup and future installations. My games are on a 1TB micro SD and soon, another 1TB external M.2 NVME.
    With this setup, the SD helps me be very productive and be entertained on breaks, something not possible with versions with smaller drive capacities.
