can confirm I still remember running 20 rep sets of paused reps for 5 sets 2-3x a week. Utterly killed me after each set, wouldn't recommend this for strength but it is great for conditioning and building work capacity.
Hey man! I recently started your 6 week program (halfway through 3rd week), in fact, your program is the first time I've ever fully followed a structured training program where exercises, weights and everything is set out to do with only minor adjustments to numbers Needless to say, I was stuck at a 275lbs 1RM for almost a year because I was under recovering and honestly getting super disorganized with my training (I'd show up light headed, dropped the bar on myself a couple times etc.) But a couple days ago, I managed to rep out 270lbs for 3 sets of 6 right after a night shift, I was exhausted and scared as all hell but I swear, lowering my days on and the amount of training to be more focused paired with volumizing my stuff made the grindy reps no longer as terrifying I still had sticking points and some form breakdown, but I didn't feel as panicked and grinding out those reps felt more "stable" than they did before Thanks for making such a great program, I think I'll run it again after I finish this bit, but I really want to also add in some athletic/plyometric work as well as running training Any tips on working that stuff into the program?
Loooove, loooove your content. And that HD quality? Daaaaamn. One thing though, and this all comes from love, my man, your voice volume is a tad bit lower than your SFX volume. Almost had a heart attack after putting the volume up because I kinda can’t hear you clearly and then your SFX came through. 😅
in the beginning all i had was constant tension highbar. only when i started training like a powerlifter that I did pauses. as long as 60 seconds. might have to do these again!
I'm doing the Candito app workout and it came to a high bar squat tension set for the first time. The breathing situation for sure is something I need to adapt to.
@cheffroggo4363 what? squats and deadlifts are different exercises, i don't know how you can confuse them. In high bar squat, or front squat, or zercher, your torso is almost vertical at every point. If your torso is vertical, then you're doing work with legs not with your back. Deadlift is a back exercise (by back i mean spinal extensors, biggest and strongest muscles of the back), so is low bar parallell squat, which is basically an RDL anyway. Zercher squat is a squat.
Standard pause squats work great with low bar, for high bar I usually recommend pausing after the bounce, right around the usual hard sticking point high bar has compared to low bar. This is also the reason I find zercher squats and SSB or front rack box squats to work great for high bar squatters, again training the ability to quickly break through that sticking point.
Great information, and I appreciate the mixture of academic science and real-world experience. It's especially useful for me as I use the forever program and will be doing this lift at some point. Just to criticize the fancy editing a bit though, the movement of the charts/figures is distracting, and the sound effects are way too loud relative to your voice.
Interesting video. I did a similar squat variation prior to my previous competiton with triples. My goal wasn't constant tension but to exert more force over a shorter period of time while trying to move whatever load fast. I found this was a good way to peak my squat/leg strength for my conpetiton.
I have such a problem with high bar squats. It just hurts so bad I can't actually load the bar with anything close to a working load. Just crushes my traps.
I hit a dead stop in my hips if I stand this wide. Really frustrating since I have long legs, mostly thighs. I have to stand very narrow so I have a looong way down to parallel. 😫
I started doing more cardio and that helped increase my numbers surprisingly. Also does anyone have any advice on an uncomfortable belt, it digs into my ribs at the bottom of the rep.
No lock out rep? I do it all the time!😂 in all seriousness, Jeremy Hamilton in recent Tabletalk podcast did mention at one point of his training cycle, he would add in a rep-out set in the end
SSB and HighBar constant tension have had excellent carry over for my guys as well. They are fun and challenging and have had excellent carry over. And beltless squats are trash 🎉
Took almost 24 hours for UA-cam to let me watch in HDR. Have you tried a longer buffer between uploading and releasing the video so that HDR is available at release?

Over almost 10 years? So exactly 10 years? Lol
This guy had that Hybrid Squat technique and I thought was interesting. I learned using Allan Thrall’s “How to Squat” early version

+1 for great video but bothersome sound effects
a lil
20 rep squat sets are legitimately scary and doing them regularly teaches you something about fear.
Nope
Great exercise and approach but getting squashed under a bar like a bug is something to be aware of. Use power rack...
after not doing it, i started incorporating 10 rep zombie front squats, imagine 20 T.T

Great video, but the weird static sound effects are really unpleasant 🙁
Seems like resting makes it harder as you reduce stretch reflex. More bounce = less transfer to 1RM maybe fine for hypertrophy
So when exatctly do you breath and when do you breath?
On the top small breaths
