I was shocked by how expensive snow tires were for our Q7, so buyer beware.
Not such a silly idea. I went from an Audi Q7 to an equally good, no, ignoring the age difference, a far better Kia Sorento. Just as much performance. Better fuel economy and superior equipment and safety [the Audi was pre-2015] and as much room. I miss the air suspension sometimes, but not often.

When I said I was a vet they said okay we'll do you a favor and only charge you 5K over sticker for the GLC. I went next door to BMW and they sold me an X5 45e at sticker plus a 2K discount for being a veteran. Done with Mercedes for life.
@@fajitas4every1 yes, you do realize that dealers are representatives of the brand? The choices dealers make directly influence brand perception. When the owner says things like they didn't charge premiums but then he realized he was leaving money on the table, so he decided to start charging premiums really says something. That money left on the table was really my family's dinner table. none of the other luxury brands in my city were doing that, it reflects poorly.
I checked their lineup like a month and crazily enough they have nine….. suvs. Then they have the trims on top of that and the new GLC has a tilted infotainment screen like it’s a sports car
I know this is like beating a dead horse, But I think now more than ever, people want cars that are cheaper than they used to be, and not more expensive. Where have all of the promises gone? economies of scale, covid is over, etc etc etc? Shouldn't cars be getting cheaper to make? Some of the engines these companies uses are a decade old if not more! Why is a civic costing me as much as I paid for a fully loaded 2019 camry? These are the issues people care about, and this has nothing to do with SG or the channel, as the content is still fantastic and I love to watch it, but I think its time to raise some torches and pitchforks against these corporations that have started to take a "technocratic" near "apple/google like" stance on something that depreciates worse than anything else on the planet. And you can't tell me shortages exist, because they do not, has anyone seen the repo market? This is a SCAM by banks and car makers and dealerships.
COVID is far from over. And in real inflation adjusted terms cars are a lot cheaper. A 2022 Civic costs about as much as a 1992 Accord in real terms, but is a much better car in pretty much every way. Automakers have done their part on the affordability front; most of the issues around affordability are economic.
It's honestly worse than that, these cars as many aren't just outpacing inflation and most people's means - not that people won't take out a 96-month loan at 14.98% at $1,299 a month for these things - but the fact they're making cars like these more disposable than ever. Those electronics are going to be a $1-4K expense when they go on the fritz and will look woefully dated in four years, in some cars less. Just the general cost of all the repairs compared to say a 1997 Camry or even a 2011 Malibu which, not if, but when they happen, as so much is connected to electronic nannies, is going to make these cars, even accounting for inflation, beyond the pale in terms of cost to own and operate. Car makes will continue to push the false narrative that their buyers are demanding all this gadgetry, but, the truth, the reality, from surveys and polls independent of the automakers has shown every time that's not the case. Given a choice to pay for gee whiz tech at even a modest $2-3K markup vs standard gauges, it's telling that most people honestly don't give much of AF outside of "does this have Android/Apple car play?" As in, yes, smartphones, also a very disposable but far, far, FAR less expensive to own and replace pieces because many consumers ARE aware that it'll be cheaper and easier to replace a smartphone than a giant screen in their car. The car industry and the consumer are heading for a day of reckoning discussed on other car channels and you don't need to be an economist to grasp the current new car market and the economy is not sustainable.
This vehicle has a new straight six engine with a second electric engine. Not anything near a decade old engine. Better performance with superior fuel economy and, for what you get overall and considering inflation, at not too shabby a price relative to the same class of car five years ago.
Hilarious review! I was waiting with bated (or maybe baited!) breath on Mark to reveal the reason for his "clown car" driving position while Jack suppressed his laughter. We keep vehicles a long time. Your reviews have been most valuable in helping me decide on my next daily driver which will also be our road trip car. I drove the winner home last week: A 2022 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition which has the same air suspension as the Cayenne S Coupe you reviewed in Oct. 2020. Ours has the lower power base 3.0 liter engine and it is more highly optioned. The optional Innodrive feature with its modest self driving capability will be particularly nice on boring Interstate highways. No gold bullion exchanged hands during the transaction - only money from many years of saving.
We traded in our 2022 GLS450 for a 2023 X7 last week since the third row was much worse than the X7 and the second row of seats were hard as a rock on long road trips (even though we had the captain's chairs). While it had its shortcomings, the driving experience was wonderful and it was ergonomically near perfect. The biggest disappointment for me was the seats in the GLS since they are nowhere near as comfortable or even nice feeling as the X7
I don't even think you have really compared them => "third row was much worse than the X7", I purchased the GLS just because the third row is obviously more spacious than x7 when comparing them seriously.
@@raymondwong487one of my children who is 5 foot 7 could not fit in the third row of the gls without their knees touching the second row and seats, even with the second row of seats completely forward. The X7, in my opinion, offers a much better third row experience as it has a sunroof, in my experience more leg room, a separate climate control with heated third row seats. The Gls that we had did not have the optional third row climate control which I know didn’t help since the third row didn’t even have air vents without that option. Overall I just think the X7s third row is far superior to the GLS
@@ahmedshasan I agree with you that it is more superior when considering the separate climate control and an independent sunroof, but the 3rd row space of GLS (x167) is for sure more spacious than the x7, I owned a 5+2 seats X5 before and planned to upgrade to x7 at the beginning, my experience is that the 3rd row of x7 is only a bit more space than my old x5, however, once I visited the GLS (x167), I decided to buy it right away since it really provides more space in 3rd row which my 4 kids enjoy them very much ^^, anyway, just to share my experience.
@@raymondwong487 Really interesting we had separate experiences with the same two cars lol. I really did enjoy the GLS shame it didn’t work out as I wanted it to. Hope you enjoy yours!
You guys mentioned the Q7 as a competitor even though it's technically a mid-size 3-row. The Q9 would compete in the full-size 3-row segment if Audi had such a model. Mark is spot on with that driving position. I've seen the same but in an Escalade ESV!
..."can't be bothered with a Telluride or CX-9, or any of the other ULTRA LOW END SUV's..." LOL I told my wife the same thing as a justification for configuring one of these for next year. Was not amused, so we compromised and I'll be aiming to order one of these next year. Our ULTRA LOW-END Tiguan just isn't cutting it. You guys are hilarious.
You can tell that Mark is slowly losing it after reviewing the onslaught of luxury SUVs with a cavalcade of needlessly overwrought design decisions with no intended audience. His dialogue is giving the equivalent of the thousand-yard stare from that squished seating position. Love it :)
In relation to physical buttons I am so happy they haven't replaced them with just screens. It is a perfect blend of digital screens and physical control. The best of both world. And yest 450 is fun to drive it feels more powerful than it actually is. After 6 months of test drives and reading reviews my wife picked it over X7 and Q7. No regret.
Hello Geese folk. I just wanted to tell you I really like your videos. I thought about going for a Dell because of you guys but ended up getting a Thinkpad because it was cheaper. (For school I mean). Hello from Finland! 😊
Merc faces a lot more competition in this segment than they previously had. The new Range Rover is gorgeous and while the x7 lacks some practicality (minimal space behind 3rd row seat), you feel like you get the 7 series interior with the x7. The GLS just feels like an extended GLE, and is a few notches below the S class in terms of luxury. I think Merc really needs to improve the interior (or at least offer S-class seats in the GLS) of they're going to lost a lot of business to their competitors. Ironically, I'd probably choose the GLS over the other two because at this size, I want the most practicality. x7 is fun to drive (relatively speaking), but at the end of the day you're driving around in a huge 7-seater family hauler. Don't try to make it more than what it is
Yes, every single person on the planet needs to drive a vehicle at least this big just to be safe in case of a collision with a small bush on their way to the local store!
Very well done. I like a little humor, too. Which of your videos should I watch for your take on BMW cost of repair and poor engineering (e.g. $1,000 of labor to get to a $4 part.).
I have the GLS550 as the winter car, family hauler and boat tower.. It is great. My wife has an X5 and she drives with the seat all the way forward as she is sub 5 foot. She wanted a GLE450 as it is a tich nicer, but impossible to find.

"Other SUVs to consider are the Kia Telluride" lol, definitely what I'm cross shopping with :P
Mark you are a hilarious man 🤣 And a wise and insightful guide to vehicles 😀
At 5:25, how does a wheel get all that curb rash on the INSIDE of the wheel?
Haha ppl driving these taking curbing to another level, have seen some ppl really mounting the heck out of parts of the supermarket parking landscape
Yeah they've been abused to hell by a generation of journalists
probably the grease monkey changing the tire.
Wow wtf
I love this channel is so premium
Congrats on your 17 marriages! I'm hoping you can make it to 20 by the end of next year. I'm still on my first one, I think I'm doing something wrong. Maybe if I buy one of these it'll help me?
buy two
Finance it for 144 months at 9% interest and see if that saves the marriage
That driving position is permanent btw, you cant change it. Mercedes knows the demographic for this SUV
Coming from a C-Class I went to my local Benz dealer looking to trade into an suv, they wanted 50k over sticker for these or 10K over sticker for a glc. When I said I was a vet they said okay we'll do you a favor and only charge you 5K over sticker for the GLC. I went next door to BMW and they sold me an X5 45e at sticker plus a 2K discount for being a veteran. Done with Mercedes for life.
You realize the brand doesn't make the mark-up decision for the dealers?
@@fajitas4every1 yes, you do realize that dealers are representatives of the brand? The choices dealers make directly influence brand perception. When the owner says things like they didn't charge premiums but then he realized he was leaving money on the table, so he decided to start charging premiums really says something. That money left on the table was really my family's dinner table. none of the other luxury brands in my city were doing that, it reflects poorly.
I've always said Mercedes could use a seventeenth SUV.
My hot take, auto industry is starring at a very expensive future as they transition to EV so they’re going to make us pay for it.
Costs of raw materials are skyrocketing.
This vehicle has a new straight six engine with a second electric engine. Not anything near a decade old engine. Better performance with superior fuel economy and, for what you get overall and considering inflation, at not too shabby a price relative to the same class of car five years ago.
So premium that the wheel arches are painted. Glad he brought that up!
Unusual color combination, but it works very well.
I don’t know what’s funnier……Mark driving like that or Jack no selling it (for the most part) and being serious at same time 😂
We traded in our 2022 GLS450 for a 2023 X7 last week since the third row was much worse than the X7 and the second row of seats were hard as a rock on long road trips (even though we had the captain's chairs).
My sienna smokes your lifted crossover
Lollll the humor was an awesome touch for this review! Great job!!
2022 Mercedes GLS 450 looks good inside & out ... Slainte' ! Cheers !
So glad I subbed to see this driving position and so I could try to figure out what was serious and what wasn't.
If I’m looking at this price range for a family this is the easy choice, style is good and interior style is my favorite
You guys mentioned the Q7 as a competitor even though it's technically a mid-size 3-row. The Q9 would compete in the full-size 3-row segment if Audi had such a model.
Mark is spot on with that driving position. I've seen the same but in an Escalade ESV!
11:11 I hope I'm not too late for you to see this but I appreciate the man behind the scenes, or car as it were
This looked old the day it was first presented. And no its not the missing glossy black screens
Underrated comment.
Damn that first shot of that driving position
..."can't be bothered with a Telluride or CX-9, or any of the other ULTRA LOW END SUV's..." LOL I told my wife the same thing as a justification for configuring one of these for next year.
Love it :)
that driving impression segment was hilarious !!
I lost it on the first frame of sitting position
In relation to physical buttons I am so happy they haven't replaced them with just screens. It is a perfect blend of digital screens and physical control. The best of both world. And yest 450 is fun to drive it feels more powerful than it actually is. After 6 months of test drives and reading reviews my wife picked it over X7 and Q7. No regret.
Awesome, Mark is ON again
Kind of mind blowing that an $80,000 SUV comes standard with vinyl seats. Good god.
Hello Geese folk. I just wanted to tell you I really like your videos. I thought about going for a Dell because of you guys but ended up getting a Thinkpad because it was cheaper. (For school I mean). Hello from Finland! 😊
Lenovos are great. Mine refuses to die. It is built like The Bismarck.
Dell laptops are good but not the desktop solutions. This guy's car reviews are good but his knowledge of computers is outdated.
LMAO... the seating position is hilarious... as is Mark in the background of the Final Thoughts. LOL 🤣
I'm 53 seconds into the video and I am laughing hysterical!! 😃
Those head bops while full sending had me dying 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I always hit the like button when I start a savagegeese video!
Mr. Geese is fading away in the last script haha... that driving position must get him down
Savagegeese is the only channel that i'd sacrifice my time to watch SUV videos to fund the real videos
This one was off the charts guys! Doffs 🎩
More everyday car reviews please.
Excellent review, you have made my day :)
good to see Jack in sunglasses, protect your eyes from all glamour, nobody else will
What a over cautious driving position you have there Mark…..You are safe, thoroughly entertained lol…..
Brilliant!
Love that extra girth and length.
Don't try to make it more than what it is
Even Jacks microphone faints under that monster... ;)
Yes, every single person on the planet needs to drive a vehicle at least this big just to be safe in case of a collision with a small bush on their way to the local store!
I prefer small bushes by the way
Always love the dark humor on this channel.
Very well done. I like a little humor, too. Which of your videos should I watch for your take on BMW cost of repair and poor engineering (e.g. $1,000 of labor to get to a $4 part.).
Question 1: How long before I can file a lemon law claim for the 450?
Before you take delivery like most Mercedes.
What's question 4?
@@inomad Will my girlfriend believe that she got genital herpes from a drinking fountain?
I wonder if we'll look back at this 35 years from now and think it's as cool as its '80s predecessor, the S124 Siebensitzer
I have the GLS550 as the winter car, family hauler and boat tower.. It is great. My wife has an X5 and she drives with the seat all the way forward as she is sub 5 foot. She wanted a GLE450 as it is a tich nicer, but impossible to find.
Cant wait for your review of the new absolutely hidious looking 2023 X7…
Mark slowly declining in the background at the end... LOL
liked, commented and subscribed!
My wife left me because I bought her a Porsche macan s instead of this
Andrew Tate's first lesson: Never buy your wife an ENTRY level luxury SUV.
@@thelarry383 *Alpha male mode engaged*
She did you a favor, champ. You’re alright.
@@thelarry383 lol Andrew Tate is some weird dude I randomly started hearing about a month ago. Macan pretty expensive for entry lvl lol
Mark plays the soft, rich dad so well
The “I’m gonna cut you off without using my signals and get angry at you for honking at me” car
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!!!!!!!
The driving position got me in tears 🤣🤣🤣
I’d have loved to see a bit more discussion of competition in the end segment. Escalade? Rivian? Tesla X? Audi Q7.
Wish you could use some of the Westworld soundtracks for more complex and serious reviews, like "This world" for something that's been completely forgotten and moved past just to please the consumer (NPCs)...
The two of you are a flippin' riot 🤣🤣🤣
its the small jokes yall do in these videos that get me laughing so hard. That driving position is exactly how the You KNOW WHOS that drive them will sit. I love it 😂
