    Thanks Bjorn!
    I now realise the differences between a template made through the Theme Builder and a page 'saved as a template'!
    I've been at it for the past 2 days and it drove me crazy as I wasn't getting why for example, dummy text I left at theme builder template was shown as 'hard-coded' in the actual post.
    For my current projects I think I'm better off with a page saved as a template so I can just change certain elements dynamically and have the rest of the layout intact.
    Or maybe I'll use a combination of both, leave the permanent features I want by designing them in Theme Template, then finishing the page with the rest and saving it as a page template.
    ...lol...so confusing I know, but I think there's a method in my madness? Please correct me if I'm wrong :-)

    HI Bjorn, Thank you for this lovely instruction video. Its so valuable even after 1.5 year...I am using the same concept for my blog but I am stuck at one particular thing for very long. Hope you can assist. Many a times I need to add star review or table or Call to Action type of stuff in the CONTENT area. Since that is basically "post Content" field in the single post template The only option is to use what's available in Gutenberg or plugins. How do I use elementor table/ star reviews type of items inside the content ?
    Kindly help.

    What you don't show in the video, Bjorn, is what happens next - and I think viewers would like to know! That is, when you add a new blog post from now on, are you composing it within the block editor and it's acquiring the formatting of the template you've made, or do you add and edit in using Elementor?

    • @wplearninglab

      Hi Ian,
      So, this is a really late response and probably too late to be useful. Sorry!
      You're right, I made some assumptions in that regard and shouldn't have. When you create a post template, from that point on, every post you create using the regular Post > Add New in WordPress will use the Elementor template layout that you created following this video.
      In the future, if you want to edit the blog post layout, you edit the Elementor template for the blog posts and it will automatically update the display of each blog post because they all use the same template.
      I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Bjorn, thanks for this video. Along with a couple of other comments, I am really confused about how the template functions. So, I create content in the wordpress classic editor, and then go to elementor to arrange the content there? I feel like I'm then editing the template itself or something. I guess I am having trouble understanding how elementor takes the content of the classic editor and arranges it the right way in the template. If you or anyone else reading this can help me I would appreciate it. I have messed up a couple posts trying to figure this out. Thanks!

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 роки тому +2

      I think it's worth making a video to clear up the confusion. The way it works is you create a template with Elementor. The content you see in the template when creating it is just a preview pulling in the content from one of your posts.
      When you save the template you choose where you want the template applied. To have it applied to posts choose 'single' in the condition.
      Then your template work is done.
      All of your posts will be displayed inside that template automatically.
      Every new post you create will be displayed inside that template as well.
      If you view a post like a visitor would, but you don't see the right template then there is a problem with the template's display conditions.
      If you view the post and your template is applied to it then you're done. You can create all your content inside the classic editor now (or the Gutenberg editor).
      The only time you need to edit the template again is if you want to change the appearance of all your posts.
      I hope that helps!

      @@wplearninglab Thank you for your fast response. I would certainly welcome a video about this. Each time I attempt to make a new post, I enter the title of the post in the editor, check on the categories and tags, then click on edit with elementor. I am taken to the elementor single post template, where it seems like I am just editing the actual template, not the content of the new post. There is something I'm either not understanding or an error I'm making in the creation of the template. I will keep working on it. Thanks much.

      @@wplearninglab The other part that confuses me is the need to include the "post content widget." thx

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for adding that bit of info. I see where you're going wrong now.
      When you create a new post add the title, choose the categories and tags and then DO NOT click on edit with Elementor.
      Instead, create your content as a regular WordPress post in the WordPress classic editor (or the Gutenberg editor).
      Separate topic, when you create the Elementor template for your posts, the 'post content widget' is what pulls in the content you write in WordPress classic editor (or the Gutenber editor).
      I think we're getting close to a big 'ah ha' moment, I can sense it!

    • @thingmaker67
      @thingmaker67 4 роки тому +1

      @@wplearninglab Perhaps, and I certainly appreciate your tenacity. But there's more to the post than title and content. What about a video? And, I also include a bit of text below the title that is not part of the main content. How does the template know where to populate these items? Is a template just title and body of the post? I'm need to sleep, thank you so much for your time and effort!

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 роки тому

      Sorry for the crazy long delay! I clearly didn't see your question soon enough.
      Your blog posts and the Elementor template that displays the blog posts are two separate and different entities.
      When you change the layout in the blog post template using the Elementor editor you do not lose your blog posts. You just change how they are displayed.
      If you delete the "content" widget in the Elementor template, then the blog post content will not be displayed. But, that content is not gone. It's just not being shown in the Elementor template until you add that widget back in.
      I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!

      Hi Mara,
      If you set the conditions to show that template on all single posts it should show on all posts. Do you have a caching plugin installed they could be showing you old versions of the site? If you do, clear the cache of the plugin and the problem should be fixed.
      Let me know if that works.

    • @wplearninglab

      The puffy cloud is a background image applied to the section. When you hover over the section you'll see six dots appear at the top middle of the section. Click those 6 dots and you'll open the section settings in the left. Click on the Style tab and you should be able to change the background of the section.

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  4 роки тому +1

      Good question, I didn't cover this well enough in the video.
      The way templates work is they automatically display content inside of the template. This video shows how to create a template that shows post content.
      So you would create a new blog post by going to Posts > Add New. Then create the blog post using the Gutenberg editor or the Classic editor, whatever you use on your site. The blog post you create there will be automatically displayed in a template in the front end of the website.
      So you don't edit the post with Elementor. Rather you edit the post content using the regular WordPress editor and then the template design that used to create the appearance of all your posts is edited with Elementor.
      I hope that made sense!

    My idea was to use an Elementor Pro template to give it a good look but when importing it it does not call the examples (Demo type) so that it does not come out with the simplicity of design that Wordpress brings.
    - I would like to know if there is a way to import the examples and / or to serve as a reference so that in the end it looks as suggested in the imported template.
    - Or what other way do you know to have a good design and not as simple as Wordpress by default.

      Kind of late, but maybe other ppl run into this too. You have to add the Post Content Widget to your template. That's all. Now when you actually write a new blog post you can do this outside of elementor with "normal" WP blocks, or click the button "Edit with Elementor" and build your blog post there. But if your post consists of nothing fancy, just paragraphs, headlines, images and galleries it's easier to do this outside of Elementor (imho).
