So glad you two fellas really appreciated this outstanding LIVE duet. You MUST take a look at Ren & Chinchilla HOW TO BE ME ( LIVE ) It is a song written by Ren about his dear friend who commit suicide from the very bridge they filmed their performance from. It is even more amazing, in my opinion, than Chalk Outlines. The synchronicity of Ren and Chinchilla together with the depth of emotion they both put into the song is a pure wonder to behold. Perhaps, THE greatest duet I have ever witnessed. 🙏 ua-cam.com/video/SDR7sup3DsU/v-deo.html ... oh and YES Ren's songs are his own, although, occassionally he has some input from other people, like when he is composing songs with The Big Push ... but this fella is 100% for real !
I agree both songs are great. Have you checked out his songs with other artists? "Humble" and "Ocean"- Ren with Eden Nash both good songs. He also does"Jessica" Ren with Orlean.
I'm struggling to think of a better duet I have ever heard in the past 50 years especially Live! It is just beyond emotional. Chinchilla has a track called " Fingers Live " also out of this world and a real MUST watch. Great work guys.
Of chourse you have to listen to Ren and Chinchilla "How To Be Me" (live). An other amazing song. Chinchilla has such good voice and control over it like Ren.
Another good reaction BP. If you like the live Ren and Chinchilla check out Sexual Healing, How to be me, Ren x Chinchilla - One Dance / Drunk in love ( Drake / Beyoncé cover ) and Elements by Chinchilla, yes she raps!..............................
Great reaction guys! This is my first comment ever on UA-cam, I think you guys would really really like Rens song, Losing it, fisher rap retake, it's an edm beat that he absolutely kills!
yo, i watched this as it came out and as allways you guys have a greating Interaction with the music. 4:20 Just realised something Sertraline is an antidepressant... that's the first line Chinchilla is singing...wow "sertraline and a sip of serotonin" that's a great line...because it kicks in the seratonon...so it's talking about depression. " In the gallows I'll balance on my toes so I can breathe" is that attempted suicide I wonder? It's definitely an original song. I love the detail of the flicking lights to Chinchilla's entrance as it did with Rens entrance, a small detail but it's quite a simple and clever to do ( I bet the timing took some planning though)... the video is cool, shows you don't need alot to make good art! 7:06 " It's such a perfect day, take it just incase" that's about taking the antidepressant to prevent the suicidal thoughts and suicide attempt, at least that's what I've just got from it. (I could have done with this song 10 years ago, I can 100% relate to this)...I'm pretty sure it will resonate so deeply with many people. 1 in 4 people suffer with depression! And covid fuelled mental health... Simon Sinek is trying to rephrase it to be called "mental wellness" so there's less of a stigma and more of a focus on the health of our mind, people work out physically we need to do the same for our minds, especially if we've had difficult childhoods, but we need to understand that trauma can come from seemingly small situations too. It's important to understand that the majority of us do not get a free pass in life where we leave the planet completely unscathed that's not how life itself works ( every species on the planet suffers traumas, imagine being a gazelle facing a hungry lion for example)...anyway we can do something about it by firstly understanding ourselves and talking to the right people who can help us understand and work through it. Also by society talking openly about it and not stigmatising the fact that we all experience difficulties with our minds, I mean the mind is really complexed ( we don't fully understand it yet) and our emotions aren't always that easy to understand because one emotion can mask another. Going a bit deep here but it is a deep song! 😂 Alot of research is being done in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. I personslly really appreciate Louise L Hay's healing work as I'd gone through the mental health service for 15 years and it was a failing service ( they just wanted to shove pills down my neck for clinical depression, I went from the age of 18 until 33 before I was diagnosed with ADHD and they never even diagnosed my C-PTSD, just kept diagnosing me as clinically depressed...thankfully things are changing in the medical field) Anyway I came across her work and that was the start of my journey... also thanks to UA-cam Medcircle was created and other clinicians started up their own channels which has been major in both identifying and understanding mental health issues. Getting back to the song. It's such a good song! And it's great in that it highlights the issues with depression and suicide. Both Ren and Chinchilla are really talented artists! Both are fantastic singers and I love the fact that Ren deals with some difficult subjects he speaks to alot of people. However we must not put Ren in a box, he's a true artist and needs the freedom to explore all aspects of his creative impulse without people putting too much expectation on him. I think Ren's musical journey has actually served him as it's allowed him to be versatile so he's already broken out of the mould that alot of artists fall into when they're signed early on in their careers. With Ren it's a treasure trove do many styles and expressions of his artistry that keeps it interesting!
Go hit up their collab called “How To Be Me”. It’s a song Ren wrote about his best friend who committed suicide. They’re preforming it live in the spot he took his life too 😢💔 Their voices and harmonies are absolutely gorgeous and deeply emotive. Really a beautiful tribute to a dear friend.
I love ❤️ all Ren but this is perhaps my fave due to msg as I too have lyme disease 🦠 💚and have been bedridden from a coinfection for 8 months just recently. I’ve had lyme since I was 30 and now I’m 60. It is pure he.. to have. Hey bro awesome reactions I would love to see you react to what went wrong 1-2 by Ren apparently Eminem guilty conscious was the inspiration for them both and they have a great message but also entertaining
I showed this video to my mother (65). She absoluttely loved it instantly and needed to hear to more, but of course, her first comment was about how she could possibly wipe her ass with those nails, 😂 I suggested she must be using the 3 sea shells, but she didn't get it.
Ren wrote it. How to be me, is equally as good. The last verse of that is about his friend who committed suicide. Chinchilla is an amazing artist. Fingers live is so so good. Not gonna lie, I struggled with the nails and they detracted from me engaging with the song until I heard it without the video, then I absolutely loved 🐇🕳️🖤
She has such an incredible voice, and imo her own solo style doesn't use 90% of what she's capable of. I can hear her opera voice tho. She stays low on purpose, which is her choice to do, but the girl can BELT and I'm glad some of that came out in this performance
Heard this multiple times. Today it hit me. The last 5 years of my 1st marriage, drifting, dying, hopeless. That was 30 years ago, but I get those feelings. I'm having a rough time lately. Ren has helped me understand myself, my mind. Their sound is incredible.
Ive never seen comments or reactions on the fact that she seems to be a ghost. My guess, a ghost of someone who didnt make it given what they’re singing about. And they seem to be in the basement of a psych ward or something. If so it I think it gives a whole other dimension to this song and performance
Ren....(Chinchilla...girl you are so awesome)...you are creating raw, visceral music. All this bullshit we've been listening to...autotune, 2 chords over and over. It's garbage. Back in the 70's an 80's (before that as well of course)...they played every note and CREATED music. You are doing just that, today.
I mean just look at the body language of them both, the lyrics ain't just lyrics here. It's very apparent to me that they both have a hard time not loosing it during the performance, but not in a bad way. Just because the topic is so sensitive and emotional.
You probably won't read this becauseit's old, but did you notice that they filmed the entire room before he sits down, and then the light flickers & and Chinchilla comes out of nowhere. Like she's a ghost, that represents the side of him that is dying by the medication he had to take & then the last verse of the song is only her. Like she (a.k.a. his ghost) is still in there trying to survive. I don't really know, man. I'm just really high.
I do love Ren and Chinchilla but I like his duet with Bibi called "Crutch" more. He wrote it about 6 years ago, when he was in and out of hospital, had just had a breakdown and really thought he was losing his mind - before the Lyme's diagnosis. He said it's about his fear his illness would push everyone away. It's not live, the music is Ren on the piano. It is hauntingly beautiful. To me, this song (and Crutch) could be on radio. He writes his own song, his own music and performs it too.
Chalk Outlines is an original song. I think there are other songs with the same title, but Ren wrote this.
Never heard any song like this title wise. If there is, then it does it match to this or if if known about it haha
This live version is 1000 times better than the recorded one. Which says so much about both of their talent !

Please do How to be me it's another example of this hauntingly beautiful blend of voices.Always play it after this.
Ren picks the location where he films his MV very intentionally...in this instance in a hallway..where the reverb n echoey effects of their voices n the instrument add so much to the song n the experience hearing it..making it more haunting n beautiful
Yes, he does write his own stuff - both the music and the lyrics
If you want to see how great Chinchilla is on her own check out the live version of her song Fingers. It'll blow your mind!
Rens skill in musical tone comes from taking the simplicity of common themed things that maybe a gimmick in some retrospect... A common melody or line and reforms it in a common sense, unique manner that makes it sound so familiar to everyone but is a unique thing in how he delivers everything so skillfully planned out to get his message across.

Just because the topic is so sensitive and emotional.

calk outline is not death. it is life. grab your life or love and live
Dont worry boys. Just cuz you can't... we can
All his work.
Like she
(a.k.a. his ghost) is still in there trying to survive.
I don't really know, man. I'm just really high.

She has some very different solo ciders Elements or Fingers … she just went independent.
I think he includes cover in the title when its not original.
Or remix
