I was always wondering which one I should choose. It sounds like I need to carry the inlet in my Semi-Truck ❤❤ great review. You help me choose. Thanks
Great review to help people decide which Oru to choose. The size of the paddler and water you hope to use it on are the key decisions to help someone decide. My wife and I bought the Inlet and are very happy with that decision. Thanks.
I'm probably not going to buy any sort of kayak but Steph's videos are so well put together and the comments so constructive, unbiased and well-informed that I can't help watching them. She's so jolly and sincere!
Love your details!! Question, do you have to clean the kayak before folding it? And if so, is doing that on the asphalt parking lot too harsh on the product? Thank you!!!
Yes, you want wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth. And when you get home you want to rinse it with fresh water. I always try to find a grassy area or some place a little softer to fold it up. You could also bring a yoga mat to fold it on if there is nothing softer around then a parking lot. But I have always been able to find a little something softer around. ua-cam.com/video/_DqrUbO2VgE/v-deo.html
yea size makes alot of difference. If i had the option to try them all i probably would have went for either the Coast of the Haven. as the Bay ST i got is mostly great but i'm 177tall and i got extra large feet.. and my feet dont fit well in it. so i would have either gone for the Coast as its bigger. or sacrifice the closed and smooth part and go for a double seater so i could take someone else with me whilst garanteing my feet fit.
Great review. While I have decades of canoeing experience, solo in a canoe - even sitting on floor in center - with any wind just doesn't cut it, so transitioning to kayaks. At 5'10"/225 eliminated Lake immediately, but also for another reason which also impacts the Inlet - length. Rented kayak at the local Wekiwa Springs SP and people were laughing at some photos of my large frame in a small kayak. That leaves the Beach and the Bay. But that also raises another issue - usage. Beyond the enjoyment of being on the water, I am a professional photographer and it would not be unusual for me to have a DSLR with 600mm lens as I quietly glide towards wildlife. While I would like a closed Bay for several reasons, question if I would be able to manage the extra gear. Appears that the Beach may be the better option and perhaps skirting to protect gear.
I agree with your assessment. I think the beach would give you the room you need and easy access to camera equipment. Also my friend at the same height likes the Beach the best after trying the bay and beach. We just filmed a comparison actually and should be out in a few weeks.
@@smkauthor Hi Steph, I'm trying to make the very same decision between the Beach and the Bay. While not planning on open ocean water at all some of the waterways where I live are a reasonable size and can get a little choppy at times hence I was leaning towards the Bay however the Beach does have that extra cockpit size which I know I would use. I like to clean up waterways from garbage and was planning on doing so with this kayak so would need the space to put a full rubbish bag. In your assesment, can the Beach also handle a bit of chop or is it really for completely flat water only as suggested on the Oru website?
I do think it could handle some. BUT I am not advising it. Always follow the manufacture instructions. That said, I have kayaked my inlet in some chop/wind (which is a smaller version of the beach). Make sure you always have safety gear with you (PFD, float bags, bilge pump, etc.) I do think the beach would be better for waterway cleanup. Lots of room!
Can I use the lake in ocean bays with calm waters? I would like a kayak to use in rivers that I can also use in bays. Not going far in the bay just a little off shore to get on the water.
Excellent video! I currently own a hard shell (Wilderness 140), which I love, but it is getting more and more difficult tonload on top of my SUV. I have heard that the Oru kayaks have "tracking" issues, but I'm not sure to what extent. Any input on that? TIA 😊
I personally have not had tracking issues with the Oru Kayaks. The shorter the kayak it's a little bit more of a challenge, but that's with any short kayak. I don't think that's unique to Oru Kayaks.
Hi, thank you for making this video. I am thinking about going with the Oru Lake Kayak. I am planning a trip in the summer of 2025 and will be flying on a plane to get to the location. I was wandering if it will fit in my luggage. I am wandering if you could make a video on how to travel with them on a plane. Thanks so much.
I have not taken it on a plane, but the Oru Kayak pack is what you would want to pack it in. I have a video showing it: ua-cam.com/video/nrJ6-N_eCmE/v-deo.html. I also have a video hiking with the pack: ua-cam.com/video/N9_iVnPcv-Q/v-deo.html
Amazing content, thank you for helping me understand the various Oru models.
Curious as to whether you need to be able to do an Eskimo roll in the BayST.
Oru needs to hire you. Greetings again from Scotland.

You are the number 1 Oru kayak reviewer on UA-cam. Oru better give you a free kayak!

Such a sweet comment. Thank you so much 💜
Really good review. I've got three inflatable kayaks and keep thinking about a foldable. This has given me some valuable information.. Thank you 🙂
Your videos are fantastic. Influenced me to get an Oru Kayak. I just bought your book as well.
Thank you so much!

This was really helpful. I wonder if the black kayak would be just the right temperature if paddling in cooler weather if there's sunshine.

Hey Steph, great videos! Probably going to order a Lake Sport soon.
Thanks! Awesome. Let me know what you think if you get it!

@smkauthor OK, thanks for the advice!
Great review! If it were between Inlet and Beach LT - which one? Now leaning Beach vs Inlet! Please add Beach affiliate link.
The beach seems great if you want a little more space with a higher weight limit! Beach LT affiliate link: alnk.to/aAO7xJd

@@smkauthor Thank You
I have a idea for a foldable boat and I need to talk to a expert on making it possible to learn more about the foldable boats
The product you are using to spray clean the boat, do you have an affiliate link and/or can tell me the make / model, or where to buy one? Thanks.
It's called RinseKit. They don't make this model anymore.
The temperature difference on black and white kayak is so interesting
Haha, I took the Lake out onto the great lakes... pretty far. (It was a little scary!)
What about the beach
I got to try the beach after this: ua-cam.com/video/r9Cz5-u5jxo/v-deo.html
can you tell dimension of oru kayak lake when folded
42" x 10" x 18" (107 x 25 x 46 cm)
Hey, for how long do you own Lake? I’m really concerned with durability
2 years
Why do the Kayaks cost 140$ more in Europe than in the US? (Lake Version)
