Peter Jackson's ambition when he was making bad taste is a constant source of inspiration for me. He pretty much stuck with making his movie until it was great.

Peter Jackson had his hands in everything, props, house, gore you name it Jackson basically made it himself because of budget, he even broke his wife's oven while making the guns. This film is basically passion in motion everything Jackson did was for the love of film making, some people will love it some will hate it and for me I love it and couldn't ever live with out this film.

Spent a year back in the late 80s, avoided all the bootleg tapes that were circulating just so i could see the UK cinema premier (and only cinema release in the UK) of this at Scala Cinema in London during Shock Around The Clock festival.
Turkey that became a cult classic hahaha OMG I remember watching this around the time Two Towers was in the theatres and was like whoa, dude's come far...
It is splatter, yes. Not as much as Braindead though, but keep in mind that Mr Jackson made this on his own, paying most of it himself, making rigs and prosthetics himself and had friends as actors, working for free. This is the absolute top in DIY splattermovies if you ask me.
@CurryCamel He actually got 2,500 $ and it was shot on weekends for 4 years, then he did get a grant from the New Zealand Film Cooperation, but it was 235,000 $

@CurryCamel I'm fairly sure the shooting had almost wrapped at that point; the money from the New Zealand film board was to get 35mm cinematic prints made (which costs an incredible amount of money), other general distribution costs, and for publicity and promotion; they sent the film off to Cannes, for example. It may have also helped secure some decent gear to edit and mix the sound on; but all the effects work was done on a shoestring.
The finest memory i have of this is when the "hero" falls from a mountain and breaks his skull resulting in spreading of his brain matter..... I laughed so hard that i couldn't even breathe
Yeah, great film. Jackson's most enjoyable, for my money. My vague memory is that the in the end, the Film Commission stumped up NZ$300,000. Still a tiny budget, and most of it went in post-production. Worth every cent :)
@Hellbringer666movies Incorrect, he actually made most of it on NZ$25,000 (admittedly over about 4 years) then had an injection of money from the New Zealand Film Commission of around NZ$235,000 to ensure its completion. So actually the budget was around NZ$260,000 - still a stupidly low budget for a film mind you. Especially when you consider that it's an absolutely fantastic black comedy.
I just imagine the company that gave him the rights to making the lotr movies going through his previous movies before giving the rights and deciding to skip watching this one until after they gave him the rights lol

the arguments are very uncommon.. i have to say its a great movie -its not the same argument- and every time you watch it you can discover another secret..

Actually this is a real Peter Jackson movie, it was more of something fun to do with his friends on the weekend, but it's still a real movie.
