Deserting Vanilla: Why Karnataka's vanilla farmers have given up

Around 12 years ago, there were more than 3000 farmers growing vanilla in Karnataka but they have now all but abandoned its cultivation in spite of the demand for natural vanilla.

As per my knowledge, Vanilla cultivation in Malnad area is failed mainly due to fungus disease. Nobody trained farmers on that. Even today nobody knows how to control it!!

Hand pollinating each flower demands patience. I remember the boom the everyone had planted at least a couple of vines in their plantations now it's almost non existant
