Although it builds up a little liquid when you overnight leftovers in the fridge, drain it off and it's still wonderful.

The salad is delicious, and you can use the leftover sauce as dip with some nice home made bread or breadsticks.

Lovely refreshing salad Robin. Would make a great light lunch. The dressing does make it special & light. I will have to substitute the onion for scallions. (I am allergic to raw onions so always sub them with this). As always, thank you. :)

Nice one, but in our traditional shopska salad we don't put sugar and black pepper. Actually... personally i don't put also vinegar on it.
I am from the west side of the country (the origin of the salad) and no one put vinegar on it. Only people of the east side put vinegar.
Will tell u my personal recipe for perfect shopska salad. Ingredients are: Peeled pink tomatoes, peeled cucumbers, red onion, red baked and peeled peppers, parsley and bulgarian feta cheese for the top. For dressing use only sunflower seed oil and a salt, nothing else. Enjoy!

+getzata96 The version we had in Bulgaria had it (perhaps not traditional), and it tasted fantastic to me.

+RobinBenzle Of course, whatever floats your boat :)But traditionaly is only with sunflower oil, plus rakia on the side - don't miss it if you get your hands on this fire water !

RobinBenzle I am Bulgarian and I can tell you that in Shop Salad we do not put never ... green salad , black pepper , and sugar . The one who told you has cruelly misled you ! Everyone has the right to experiment , but in the original recipe that we in Bulgaria do we put the following : tomatoes ( try also with peeled) , cucumbers ( must have peeled ) , onions , peppers ( red , try and baked ) , cheese , oil ( olive oil ) , salt , and for decorating parsley . The olives were never part of the shop salad . Enjoy your meal ! 😇
