The question is, why fire him now in mid-season, it's not like the Jets are going to salvage any sort of the season at this point. What are you going to do for the rest of the season if you need/want to make any changes? Hiring an interim GM makes no sense and the firing of the HC mid-season worked out so well. Also, pretty sure the architects were Woody and Aaron Rodgers. Not sure Joe Douglas said, let's get about 8-9 members of the Packers over here to accompany Rodgers.
President of Football Operations (Yes, a new position for the franchise history) - Pete Carroll (Seahawks Advisor) GM - Mike Borgonzi (Chiefs ast. GM) / HC - Todd Monken (Ravens OC) / OC - Tee Martin (Ravens QB Coach) / DC - Rex Ryan (T.V)
If I’m a Jets fan(what a nightmare to even imagine🫣) I’d be hoping this is a sign of a near full reboot of the team coming. Bring in a whole new front office and give them a mandate to blow it up. Jettison Rodgers after the season. See what you can get for Adams and look to offload other expensive older players and try and rebuild through the draft.
Hopefully they have someone in mind to replace him and put him in place in order to use the last third of the season to evaluate. The Giants should follow suit and get closer every time Saquon touches the ball.
For the past 3 years, the factual GM and Head Coach of the NY Jets has been Aaron Rodgers. Anything that you don't get, Rich, can be traced back to Rodgers's ego In this case, Douglas was probably in the "we can't keep Rodgers for next year" camp and the QB told Johnson to get rid of Douglas ASAP.
But the team is a complete toxic dump. You've got the owner firing coaches and GMs in the middle of the season . Ulbrich will be fired in 7 more weeks.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this was done for media publicity purposes, whether to deflect blame from the poor season or to keep the Jets in the news during the bye week.
Rich continues to act surprised at how Rodgers seemingly refuses to take accountability and the organization seems perfectly fine blaming everyone else along with him. It's actually a bummer to see how much Rich changed his tone with regards to Rodgers just because of the logo on the side of his helmet
I love Rich but I don't understand his take on this one. Douglas is 30-64 in 6 years as the GM. Were you going to give him an extension and let him hire a new coach? This season is over, you might as well get a head start on finding a new GM instead of waiting until after Week 18. Douglas has way more bad than good in his tenure. Good: Jamal Adams trade, Sauce, Garrett, Breece, Jermaine Johnson Bad: Hiring Saleh, drafting Becton, Mims, E Moore, Zach Wilson, not having a real backup QB last year, trading for Reddick and letting JFM & Huff go. Almost every free agent signing in the past 6 years was awful except DJ Reed..
Has he really been doing "terrific work" though? That 2022 draft was no doubt excellent (although Breece and Sauce both are having pretty rough seasons this year).... but I dont think there is a single player still on the team from the 2020 or 2021 drafts. The Haason Reddick situation was a disaster. You can only ride on the wave of a single successful draft surrounded by failures for so long, eventually it doesnt offset everything else. To be honest, the Jets are probably going to be better off bringing in a Head Coach and GM at the same time (and most likely a QB as well). Having those jobs all on different timelines is what destroyed the Giants.
My question for the organization is how soon are they going to look for a GM. One reason teams dont like firing GM and their staff until after the season is the data they accrue on players coming out of college, and the free agent market. Even if that GM/scout team makes bad personnel decisions on the data they have they still have that data. For example, if they have scouted data on a WR from a lower end college that will likely become a great slot WR in the league and the data showed that through, but the current staff views him as a low 6th high 7th round talent and not a low 3rd high 4th, that data was misinterpreted or read incorrectly is a safe assumption. The next guy can still use that data. Starting completely over can potentially harm more then hurt.
As many others have stated with Rogers being the de facto head coach and general manager, this was a very predictable result for how the season was going to go

President of Football Operations (Yes, a new position for the franchise history) - Pete Carroll (Seahawks Advisor)
GM - Mike Borgonzi (Chiefs ast. GM) / HC - Todd Monken (Ravens OC) / OC - Tee Martin (Ravens QB Coach) / DC - Rex Ryan (T.V)
I feel like this is a Jeopardy question… what is a list of people with self respect that would turn down an offer to work with the Jets?

It ain't a trapdoor it's a black hole...Welcome to the abyss...
Woody is so confused he might end up firing himself.
Woody Johnson continues to kill the Jets
Hopefully they have someone in mind to replace him and put him in place in order to use the last third of the season to evaluate. The Giants should follow suit and get closer every time Saquon touches the ball.
There is only one problem with the Jets. It hasn’t been addressed yet..
The Jets were dominating before Rodgers showed up! Oh wait, no they werent
Jets and Cowboys need to merge and make one super teams.
That uses the word "super" pretty loosely...
That thumbnail made me think Alex Jones was going to be on the show 🤣
I was like “The Rich Eisen show is going to be wild today..”
with all due respect, being a GM is a lot more than just Drafting Players
For the past 3 years, the factual GM and Head Coach of the NY Jets has been Aaron Rodgers. Anything that you don't get, Rich, can be traced back to Rodgers's ego In this case, Douglas was probably in the "we can't keep Rodgers for next year" camp and the QB told Johnson to get rid of Douglas ASAP.
GM Rodgers was unavailable for comment
I’m sure Davante is loving this 😂 he left the Raiders for an even more dysfunctional team
Rodgers is who needs to go - did he want to let him go and the owner backed AR
At least now there is plenty of time to interview guys before the rush starts
Yeah, like anyone sane would want the job.......
Bill is not the only coach out there, Vrabel would be a good pick, how about Pete Carroll?
But the team is a complete toxic dump. You've got the owner firing coaches and GMs in the middle of the season . Ulbrich will be fired in 7 more weeks.
Bill has been crucifying woody since salah was fired. Zero chance he’d take a job here or that woody would even ask
Ive said it here before and ill say it here again, CLOWN ORGANIZATION IS GONNA CLOWN!!!!! ....what an absolute joke of an owner Woody Johnson is.
The Rodgers trade single handedly destroyed an entire organization with what was once a very promising roster.
Wild.
I have a sneaking suspicion that this was done for media publicity purposes, whether to deflect blame from the poor season or to keep the Jets in the news during the bye week.
As a NY Jets fan this can't be life.... JD was the best GM we have had in a long time and Woody fired him.... Screw you Woody!!!!!!!!!
Rich continues to act surprised at how Rodgers seemingly refuses to take accountability and the organization seems perfectly fine blaming everyone else along with him. It's actually a bummer to see how much Rich changed his tone with regards to Rodgers just because of the logo on the side of his helmet
AR is a problem but the Jets were a mess before he got there.
There’s so much material here. Where to begin?
Eisen is butt hurt! Protecting idiots is not smart.
Jags should scoop him up as of yesterday !!!
Why are we surprised? Dysfunction with the jets is the norm, not the exception. I’d be surprised if they did something that was logical.
The jets are a joke of an organization.
The curse of stealing Aaron worn out Rodgers from GB.
As many others have stated with Rogers being the de facto head coach and general manager, this was a very predictable result for how the season was going to go
"I don't get it."
And that's why you're a Jets Fan.
Helen Keller could have told you she saw this coming.
Jets deserve all of this.
Jet lag
Noun
Definition:
1 - A fatigue caused by traveling across multiple time zones, facilitated by the rapid travel of jet aircraft.
2 - A sudden and exhausting feeling when you realize that yet again the RE show is about to talk about the dysfunctional 2024 NY Jets.
What are they talking about? Rodgers is projected to have 3,774 yards, 26 TDs, and 11 INTs by the end of the season. It's the Jets organization as a whole (starting with the idiotic decision to fire their HC less than eight games into the season)... not their aging, HoF QB who's coming off of an injury.
I don't understand. Everyone knows A A Ron was the real GM at the Jets. So really they didn't fire the GM. LOL
Joe probably had the nerve to criticize his royal highness Aaron and the Rodgers culture.
They are IDIOTS!!!. Fans should sell their tickets for what ever they can get for them and become hockey fans.
Thank you--my sentiments exactly. I am so disgusted with the jets now.
Rodgers will eventually get the team hooked on Ayahuasca to make them feel like everything's ok😂😂😂
It's amazing to me how people still mix Jerry's words up and don't understand what he said. He stated WE ARE ALL IN. not we are going all in. Saying all chips already pushed into the middle
Goes to show you how important COMPETENT ownership is.
I feel for ya Rich. Packer fan here I talked to you on the Jim Rome show years ago. I would not even know what to say about this. Worst decision making ever
My team was in the same division as Packers and I had to listen to that smug jerk A-Rod for far too long. His epic failure with the Jets, makes me smile. I hate it for Jets fans, they deserve far better.
Sorry for your loss
I'm not. Boo hoo
"A serious organization tells Rodgers to hit the road" - Brockman nails it
To be fair they should just do a total reset this offseason. Hire a new GM to hire a new coach with alignment, get rid of Rodgers, get this thing going back on track.
Woody Johnson is one of a handful of owners that care more about the glitz & glamour of owning a team more than caring whether they compete in a Superbowl. He's raking in MILLIONS every weekend during the season whether his team wins or loses & could care less either way.
