As always thank you Karl for this very entertaining cycle ride, i wear earbuds in the gym but i often wonder about people out and about with the safety aspect.

Thanks for watching. Yeah, those earbuds/headphones are a frustration. Three times wasn't it that I rang the bell? For me, when I'm out in places like that it's the nature that is music to my ears. I like to hear what's around me.

Very interesting videos Karl particularly as a canal enthusiast myself. I find it hard to believe how overgrown the towpath and parts of the Aylesbury Arm are. I watch a lot of canal videos and I have to say non are as overgrown as this.I guess the Canal and River Trust don’t consider it as an important stretch only being an arm and little used by leisure boaters. How tranquil the Wendover Arm is particularly from Aston Clinton to Wendover.Would you say there would have been several locks at one time along this arm as at various points during your video it appeared that you were travelling uphill, maybe an optical illusion.Although living in the area myself I have never walked along the Wendover, but many years ago some of the Aylesbury Arm.Thank you.

I'm glad you enjoyed the journey. Those overgrown bits were annoying but thankfully there weren't that many. The Wendover Arm is mostly flat but I believe it used to have locks in the past.

The Wendover Arm never had any locks. It just follows the lie of the land with a bit of cutting here and some banking there. I think the main leakage problem was on a banked section above the reservoirs.

Ha! A feature length video, Mr. Vaughan. I'll get back to you in a few hours. I've walked some of the Wendover arm just off the main canal where it's dry/drained. I believe there are ongoing efforts to reinstate that section. From what I've read, this arm of the canal leaked from the word go and, over the years, several fixes were attempted but ultimately resulted in them running a pipeline under the leaky section to keep feeding the main canal. The Wendover arm was built primarily as a feeder and, secondarily, was navigable for narrowboats delivering whatever to the good folks of Wendover.
Righto. I'm going to get stuck in to this cycle ride.
Edit: You learn something every day. The sump and pipeline under the dry section were installed in the early 1900s and the flow from the streams above Wendover end up in one of the reservoirs. From there it is pumped back uphill, presumably to the lower section of the Arm where it then flows into, and tops-up, the Grand Union proper.

Some parts of this route have definitely got a lot better.

Absolutely. I was impressed by the section between Wendover and Halton. They've done a great job there.

You should add links to your routes to encourage others.

Maybe, however I didn't record this one as I know the route very well.
