  • Doctor Who needs to make the Daleks terrifying again in my opinion. After Steven Moffat became Executive Producer of Doctor Who when Matt Smith became The Eleventh Doctor, I felt, despite some promise at first, Moffat seemed unable to create his desired effect of making the Daleks seem like a strong, major threat to The Doctor and, therefore, scary.
There are multiple things Steven Moffat did wrong, in my opinion, at least, particularly with the way he dealed with the Daleks and in this UA-cam video, I compare what Steven Moffat did wrong compared to what his predecessor, Russell T. Davies, did right.
All clips of Doctor Who are owned by the BBC. The use of any footage is intended for educational purposes only under the Fair Use Act. I do not own the rights to this footage.

The fact that Daleks used to kidnap children to use as strategy computers, was a terrifying idea to introduce. The fact that the Daleks have a need to kill, but are smart enough to find purposes for lesser beings to destroy others, before exterminating them. It co insides with original idea of hoe insignificant earth is to them, and only invaded for its resources.

Reminds me of a scene from the story Jubilee where the Dalek convinces a security guard to murder his colleague to teach him the benefits of power

The mish mash of different dalek designs in Witch's Familiar and Magician's Apprentice are there to show the progression how far Davros has come to rebuild Skaro

I only realised as I was uploading it that I accidentially put Series 5 on the list of 'Davies Era' Dalek episodes, so it was EVEN LESS than that!

I feel like with the thumbnail I predicted the new Daleks colour scheme as well as the use of the squid mutant aspects of the Dalek for horror effect all before the Chibnall era even began. xD Maybe he watched this video LOL.

For me I'd actually return the scientist and eternal paradigm daleks because they had the most potential and I'd have them be the last daleks, they use a progenitor particle and create a new dalek a time strategist Paradigm dalek (A nod to big finish) that dalek destroys the others and travels back in time and spent years rebuilding the empire. Creating new daleks that has other functions and they face off against a parallel universe dalek empire which is being led by a parallel universe master.

Resolution was the best dalek episode since journeys end because it shows the Daleks can adapt in any situation and they showed their power and didn't hold back.

True, that scene when it takes out the army is really good!

Scariest change I can think of is a sudden reveal that they are now fast on the ground. Like close yo cyberman charging speed.

And what was the eye sticks coming out of the agents fore heads. Just stupid

Yeah, I've recently been re-watching Davies' Dalek episodes and they're just so great, they really became worse and less threatening when Moffat took charge, it seems. It's like he didn't take them seriously at all.

@@pupbenny properly because he wanted to show bada## his hombrew baddies were. Well until he discovered the horror potential cybermen. A villain he handled a lot better. (Well besides "closing time".)

I love this, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks the daleks were ruined

I think a good way to write a truly terrifying dalek story, is write it as though the daleks didn’t have just name to go by, as if they were being on screen for the first time, that way you can extrapolate the true potential from them

We need to see the Daleks doing some serious extermination. And the consequences. We should have a story about a multi species gorilla band. All the last of their kind. All the victims of the Daleks.

dont put them in dr.who terry nation was right they should honestly just have there own show where they explore more terrifying sci fi and lovecraftian concepts.
same goes for the cybermen because dr.who will never allow them to achieve there full potential
dr.who is family programming at its core
but i would have loved to watch a more adult version
a time travelling gypsy in box
    fighting against nazi pepper pots
and beings that want to kill the soul of humanity

I'd like to see that too! It'd allow them to be shown to their true potential I think!

I had a cool idea on how to make the Daleks creepy again
I imagined the companion trapped all alone on a huge abandoned space station designed like a labyrinth where a single Dalek has become trapped for centuries and gone insane to the point of becoming the equivalent of a Hannibal Lecter type personality
I picture a personality similar to the Dalek Overseer, but with a voice quietly silky and terrifying
I picture the companion struggling to move through the labyrinth trying to solve complicated puzzles and security while the Dalek stalks her playing mind games with her slowly moving its eyestalk that casts a deep blue searchlight that moves like a lighthouse
Just an idea I once had

If I was in charge of the Daleks, I would give them a colour skim and role that is similar to the Sligs from Oddworld except they wouldn't work for Glukkons! LOL!

Please research how to pronounce someone’s name before making a video because you constantly mispronounce Moffats name and as a Scotsman myself it kills my soul.
    It’s pronounced as Mof-fat or Mof-fet not Mo-fat.
Also it’s pronounced as Mark Gate-us not Gatt-is.
I agree that he didn’t always utilise the Daleks as well as he should have but it wasn’t entirely his fault and to pin it on him entirely is unfair. The writers are also to blame. Xx
