Frankly fajitas and guacamole has to be made from scratch. Packaged stuff doesn't cut it, even from HEB. Y'all should try my backyard fajitas sometime you stop in Austin.
We live about 30 miles from there on the Arroyo Colorado River near Rio Hondo and Harlingen. We catch blue crabs in traps using hard head catfish as bait. Get a crab dinner for two about once a week. Close enough to motorcycle to South Padre often but we are in a low rent seniors RV park. Low cost of living, no State income tax and best winter climate outside of South Florida. We planned to go North every Summer but not during the pandemic. Next year hopefully.
Glad you folks are enjoying your stay on SPI and making the most of it! Also glad to see you found HEB grocery. The best grocery store chain in Texas. The only grocery store better than HEB in Texas is Central Market which is also owned by HEB. A very unique store located in larger Metro areas. You mentioned Kolaches appearing to be primarily in South Texas. Actually they are all over Texas and mostly originated from Central Texas in the Czech, Bohemian and German communities. In addition to the meat versions, the most popular are filled with various fruit fillings and cream cheese. Currently a town towards North Texas called West on I-35 is the most well known area for Kolaches. There are many great shops selling there. The most well known stores are The Czech Stop and Slovacek's. Also Slovacek's is well know for their sausage which is also sold at HEB. Most stores carry it and if not in stock they can get it within a day or two. Slovacek's Cheese and Jalapeno Sausage is my favorite. Also while at HEB I recommend you try Slayton Bakery Vanilla Wafers and/or Slayton Bakery Ginger Snaps. Last two items. The pigs head set you back, yet pork tamales are often made from that. $7.95 for a dozen is not a bad price. Homemade are often found for $10 per dozen. Last but not least I recommend you try Barbacoa de Cabeza. The gas station Stripes sells them at their stations during lunch. A little bit goes a long way as the meat is rich. Packages can also be found at HEB. Have Fun and when you head through Fort Worth I will introduce you to some of the Best BBQ in Texas and found in a very unlikely location!
Nahhh..... y'all are missing it. Best BBQ in Texas is found in two places. The Iron Works right here in Austin and Smitty's in Lockhart with all the sides including some fried okra. Yes indeed, fried okra goes with everything. I will grant you this.... the best chips you can find in a store or in a restaurant are the chips served at the Mexican Inn restaurants in Ft. Worth. On your way out buy a couple of pounds worth of those chips to take with you.
Did you get to Padre Island National Seashore? We spent some time down there in that area around Labor day. Lots of great places to eat, Look up Doc's Seafood and Steaks. Did you use the Port Aransas Ferry to cross the channel? You can watch the porpoises from the ferry.
Every larger HEB has something different. The one near my house has a barbacoa bar on the weekends, grilled chickens on open flames all week. As well as a sushi bar. That's why it's the best Grocery store chain in the US.
@@LyfUninterrupted In your travels keep an eye out for the upscale branch of HEB grocery. Called Central Market and the latest version Market Street. Central Markey is a amazing "foody" grocery with lots of amazing foods from every ware.(all the produce is labeled where it was grown) When they opened in Fort Worth it was a interesting place to go for supper. The deli was amazing. You could get a prime rib dinner and a glass of wine and go out on the patio to eat with a live band for entertainment. The Market street version's have all the fancy foody stuff but they also have a regualer HED store attached. You should check them out.
Beautiful place isn't it? Great food and people, I was there after the Hurricane that hit Galveston, looking for missing treasure and cleaning up the beach. Sand crabs are a hoot at night. No place bigger or better than Texas! I got here 36 year's ago from Maine ! Safe travels to you both 🕊🙇♀️✌
IF you can and are allowed to go with the restrictions due to the virus, head over to Nuevo Progresso, Mexico. You will need a passport and Saturday is the best day to go to see some great artisan shops. Its also called Las Flores. Be safe and enjoy. I agree with other comment... Delia's Tamales are aaaaammmazing!
Hi, I was on South Padre Tuesday, and on it again Friday at the Port Mansfield end close to the Jetty (Fishing in a boat and caught some big Reds) . I will move my RV to the Island on Wednesday for a full month. Don
Yes keep SD. In TX we have to have an annual inspection and taxes for RV are 6.25 vs 4% in SD. Our son and his family live in SD so we may very well move our domicile to SD. Cool Clam footage!
Just started FT this week. Headed that direction soon. Would love for you guys to give updated prices and recommendations of campgrounds! Would be a great addition.
I know where our first trip will be! I was wondering if you ever cook then I see you make cerviche, looks like a wonderful time. I just binged all of your SPI videos. Absolutely love watching you
That liked like fun driving along the beach and sitting by it. Beautiful water. Love finding shells along the beach. It all looked fun. Was that mixture at the grocery store good? It looked good. Loki got fussed to more videos. See you both soon. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Nude! One way to cut down on laundry~ Thanks for another great video. I now have Vinnie hooked on researching the RV lifestyle. Baby steps! I'm ready to sell all my stuff (or donate) and hit the road. I'm thinking Class C, but Vinnie wants a toy hauler for our Goldwing.
@@LyfUninterrupted thanks! I found one that I forwarded to Vinnie. We also drive mini coops, so might have to rethink what we can tow. I don't want to drive an A class. Here we are "in the beginning".....and I have him researching your bikes. So much to consider when you have pups also.
Yes, you have to try them, delicious tamales all of them, beans, chicken, pork, cream cheese/jalapeño, beans/cheese, just careful with the green sauce kus is hot.

a crab dinner for two once a week sounds pretty good to me.
Hi Larry! I (Brian)use to fish for blue crabs many years ago near the Chesapeake Bay. Nothing like a fresh crab boil!
I love to watch people from out of state enjoy H‑E‑B the way we do.
Next time you are in the valley, go to Delias Tamales.
I live in McAllen.
We're bummed that we missed Delias. We've head from many that their tamales are the best.
👍

Brought back so many memories of Sunday drives back in the 90s smoking a joint drinking some beers. Old folks nude out there lol great days
LOL! Thanks for watching!
I always wanted to see what’s in the far end of SPI beach stretch!

Hi William. We haven’t made it to the National Seashore yet. So much to do on SPI!
@@LyfUninterrupted You have just scratched the surface on the Texas coast.
👍
I miss HEB! When I think of grocery stores, I always think of HEB.
👍
Can you make it to UFO Beach in a Toyota 4Runner? (Non 4WD)
We would recommend 4WD as there are sections of the beach that would be difficult to pass without 4WD.
