The singer is Annette Strean. Not too long after going on tour with Blue Man, she injured her throat (repetitive stress from singing.) Really sad. That girl could SING! One thing to notice is how she is always smiling throughout the whole perforormance. Her career, along with Venus Hum, went on hold for a few years while she re-learned how to sing. Now this is a gem. I truly hope that the reaction Community will blow this one up because it deserves it. The concert DVD that this comes from is spectacular actually, it's got to be at least 15 years old at this point. On a side note, one of my roommates in a past life was a blue man. He actually went to their recruiting call, went through blue men school as they called it, all that stuff and ended up performing in the New York and Las Vegas versions of the show. It was all very regimented, but he said it was a good time. And the Blue Man band has had some notable drummers in the form of herb from primus, the drummer for Slaughter played with them, among other notables. I bet it would be an excellent gig to have as a musician. To answer Travis's question, every blue man is a drummer by default. You don't have to be a great drummer on a full kit but you do have to have your rudiments in place with your hands and they are pretty meticulous about the patterns you have to learn for the various instruments and whatnot. They are also required to be physically on point with the way the Blue Man characters are portrayed, they have to be actors to a certain degree to keep their expressions correct.. it's all pretty meticulous. My roommate was a drummer going in, so that helped, plus he was also 6 ft 2 and had been losing his hair since his early 20s so it was a no-brainer. Best, mars.
the whole dvd id amazing although my favorite pert is a relatively small one, it's when one of them takes a huge mallet and whacks the strings of a grand piano laying opened on it's side
I went to Blue Man's website: they do have a link for any man who has the requirements to be new Blue Man member. I wish I was able to become Blue Man member years ago. I can play drums and percussion instruments. Right now, Blue Man has residency in Las Vegas. Then sometime in 2023, Blue Man Group will on tour.
@@MrTech226 I just saw them in Seattle 2 weeks ago! Phenominal show and worth every cent!!! Will DEF be going again and getting the best seats right up front next time...
Bruh, this performance was so nuclear, and hits so hard, even the Blue Men were dancing like crazy. Even though they are known for their immense composure despite the awesome music and silly antics. Legendary show
BMG was one of the best off Broadway shows I have ever seen. The amount of audience interaction was fantastic. Dont wear fancy clothes though because after the three hours you will be covered in neon paint and bananas.
The story behind how their shows are produced is just as mind-blowing as the shows themselves. First, they invent a lot of the instruments they use. The guitar sound is done from a handheld magnetic oscillator that was created for them, so the guitar player isn't using a pick. Instead, the strings are metal or metal covered and the device makes them vibrate. The PVC tubes used in the show are tuned for specific songs, and they can't just play anything at all. There's a grand piano with an open top that they hit with a beater, but it's tuned in three string groups and only produces three chords when struck. And yes, they have a lot of percussionists, but only the two drum kits. The rest are filling in with different effects or cymbals. The floor toms that do the haze trick? There is a colored light under each of them, and water is pumped up a tube on one side of the drum. It spreads across the drum heads, and when the blue man hits it a spray of water droplets is kicked into the air. The droplets catch the light shining up from the bottom of the drum.
Seen them twice. The only sad part is you can't feel that giant bass drum through the floor and in your chest the way it is live. See the show live if you can.
Can confirm. Went to the How To be a Megastar 2.0 years ago and I swear to god the giant drum gave me heart palpitations. It's an incredible experience on DVD, but the feeling of everything hitting the very core of your body is something you NEED to feel with these guys
Yep! I got to see them on The Complex tour a while back and it was complete 🔥🔥 from beginning to end! Edit: Just realizing that "a while back" was around 20 years ago... 🤣
The musicians were amazing but the lead singer was other worldly. She stood out over a room full of instruments and that chorus was goosebumps inducing!
i saw this concert and to this day is still in the top 3 of the 30 plus Concerts I have attended. The pure energy of this performance, the audience participation in the show....just staggering.
Ive seen them twice and they don't disappoint. Once I paid extra to be part of a pre-show Meet & Greet and the Blue Men keep in character...no speaking, and they "autographed" the schedule with a Blue handprint. We saw them do this song and each time they went into the chorus, BMG and the accompanying band just ramped up the energy, force and by the 4th iteration were off the rails. The huge audience was was going nuts. Those two shows each gained a spot on my top 5 concerts along with Emerson Lake & Palmer (2) and ZZ Top. And in the last 55 or so years I've been to a crap load of concerts. This troupe is amazing.
My wife and me have been at a Blue Man Group concert about 15 years ago in Germany and it was a really extraordinary and unusual event with this absolutely fantastic finale of the show. Unforgettable !
Two words to describe this video: Sensory Overload. And the girl from Venus Hum can SAAAANG! And the BIG DRUM is way cool! One of my favorite concert videos to put on when I want to really rock out. It is called "Blue Man Group The Complex Tour", and there is soooo much energy, you can't sit still. Enjoyed your reaction to it.
"Complex Rock Tour" is a must watch 1hr 15min excursion through almost every type of music woven into a introspective journey through thought & self awareness against a backdrop of a tutorial for aspiring musicians. It pays homage to past bands while also exploring percussion in all its forms.
I’ve seen these guys 3 times in Boston. Always a great show. They mix it up every so often so you can see them multiple times and see something different. I have their original album release which is all original music. Good stuff. And the show is hilarious. And messy.
I am so glad that you have reacted to this phenomenal performance.I love Blue Man Group , and Annette Strean's vocal performance, with the superb music from Blue Man Group and the rest of Venus Hum , all adds up to one of the greatest performances I have ever seen
I saw blue man group when I was a teen and it was crazy great! I was in row 5 or 6 and we were the last row to be given ponchos to wear because of some of the crazy stuff they did. At one point during the show a jello mold of some sort was launched and it was bee-lining straight for my head. I moved my head to the side for it to whiz past and heard a woman behind me scream as it nailed her. I was relieved not to be hit in the head with jello but I felt bad that the women behind me took all of it and had no poncho. What a great show!
My brother was the associate musical director for the Berlin Blue Man show for many years. They are a class act and have created some extremely wonderful and energetic performances over the years. Great job !!! (my brother is the hairless percussionists on the right side in this video!)
Just saw them at the Luxor after Thanksgiving, third time. Never gets old. Took two of my kids 30 and 32, they were stunned at how good the show was, especially the music.
I want to The Complex Tour in Denver and it was one of the most incredible concerts I've ever seen. The light show, as you saw, was fantastic, and half the band is made of up percussionists - they can really rock out!!!! The shenanigans of the blue men was just the icing on the cake.
I saw BMG twice back in the early 2000s...and I was totally blown away. They also have a few small venues in a few cities...Chicago, for one. The didn't give concerts, they gave experiences. I'm 73, and hope to see a full experience once more, before I croak.
Hoje, dia 10/02/2024, estou ouvindo essa música de Donna Summer nessa bela voz de Annette Stream acompanhado desse Grupo contagiante. Verdadeiro Show.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I saw this tour and it blew me away. I was in drumline back in my youth and this band gave me that whole percussion section vibe. The how to be a Rockstar side of the show was hilarious too. Definitely worth checking out more. 🤘🎶
Blue Man exploded and got huge about 20yrs ago. They were everywhere. Late night talk shows. I believe they had an American tour production and a world wide production at the same time. Music videos. And then they signed a long term in Las Vegas. The set is more stripped down now but still a good show in Vegas. They have a drum kit. 3 percussionists and then the 3 Blue Man Group guys. Lots of drum sounds for sure. I could be wrong but I always felt like the middle percussionist might be a back up Blue Man. Touring with them, already bald, can play drums. Knows all the songs. Lol
it's fun to watch other groups especially different genres of music react to other types of music. I've seen Blue Man Group quite a few times and every time it's amazing.
When I saw you had reacted to this I couldn't wait to see your faces as it developed - it's 15 years old but a true classic that doesn't get nearly the reactions it deserves !
It actually just turned 19 years old in November (2022 for all you future people). This concert was in November of 2003. The CD came out in April before this concert, and the DVD was released a year later in 2004. I remember buying the CD after watching the special premier of this concert on DirecTV.
Everyone should go to at least one Blue Man Show. This was from a unique traveling "Rock Concert" tour. I saw this tour but a different singer was at mine. Ive also seen one of the standing shows in Orlando. Always a great show! They mix things up for sifferent shows but many things are always there. Worth any price you pay. They are so creative. They even make music with whips on Stomp your Feet/Clap your Hands.
Being a professional musician and goung to this very show... It's AWESOME! They kick the bass n volume to 11. Too great of a show. N yes, have a friend if a friend that tours with them. Hes a percussionist. Plays bot but n tubes depending on the show. They rotate the crew.
They are all percussionists. There's one drummer, a percussionist and the blue men. Another good one to watch is stomp. They use every day items as percussion. Clever and immensely and entertaining. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
I wouldn't say every Blue Man is a _drummer,_ but I would say that every one of them is a _percussionist._ They create sounds through physical impact or motion (e.g. super long skinny poles for swishing sounds, etc.) The band members behind them (not in blue paint) are drummers, guitarists, etc.
You should be sure and add "w/ Venus Hum" to the video description to give credit where credit is due. The singer for Venus Hum takes this video to the next level with her voice!
Seen em twice in Vegas on two separate trips. On the second trip my friends and I took a garden gnome from a random house and took hundreds of pictures with the gnome. He was everywhere. Lounge singers and other bands had h8m on stage. He sort of became a celebrity for the week we were there. We took him to the blue man concert and he got put on the big screen a couple times during the show. Afterwards when we were leaving the theater and the whole blue man crew and the rest of the band were doing pictures and such. Went in for the pic with the gnome and the blue man whispered to me that the whole band has seen us around Vegas and he thought it was funny as he'll because him and his friends did something similar when they were younger. (My crew was all in their 30s.) I was stunned and shocked, I wasn't prepared to hear him talk. He smiled for half a second then moved in with me and gnome for a pic. After we got back home, we took the gnome on a couple more outings and parties and requested everyone send any pics to me. I downloaded and printed probably 300 pictures and put them in a tiny little suitcase and placed him and the suitcase back at his home. He was gone for almost 2 months. He got a spot on the local news!!! A little feel good filler spot! The lawn gnome that went to Vegas! George was a party animal!!
The schtick of this show (known as "The Complex Rock Tour", to promo their then-new album "The Complex") is that they're following a manual of how to put on a rock concert - hence the opening narration. As as you can guess, it gets quite satirical, for example as the narrator goes over some basic dance techniques, he advises not to worry about how the dancing may affect the accuracy of any singing and instrument-playing that they do - after all, that's what backing tracks and lip-syncing are for.
Also, it must be said that this show and a remake that got put on several years later are specials through and through, and in terms of material have precious little in common with their usual shows. I think "Time to Start" and _maybe_ the song parody montage are the full extent of The Complex materials which have been folded into their standard lineup.
But did you know/recognise the song. It is "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer released in 1977. Waaaay ahead of her time. The album was called "I Remember Yesterday".
I saw them in Pittsburgh a dozen or more years ago, in the old Civic Arena. Basically the same show, but with some modifications. I got a seat near the corner of the stage, close enough that I felt the full effect of that huge drum when they pounded on it. On the opposite side of the stage, they had a piano propped up on edge, and they'd pound on the piano wires with a large mallet too.
These guys are so special. Yes, these days, all of their shows are these type of extravaganzas. I was lucky enough to see them in this tiny little theater in NYC in 1995. No one knew who they were back then but that changed quick. I recall hearing someone say it was a must see show and I had absolutely no idea what I was about to witness. At that time, there was no backing band. Just three Blue Men percussionists and the PVC pipes. It was the craziest most interactive show I’ve ever been to. I remember they were walking around the audience on the backs of the seats and they would pop up on your seat out of nowhere like blue ninjas! 😂😂 All these years later, even knowing how incredible and expensive Their shows have become, I will never forget that first show. They have a TON of other live excerpts and ALL of them are as worthy of watching as this one. I wish more reactors would catch on to this because it is a literal goldmine, so shout out to the person that requested this.
Won free tickets not having a clue who Blue Man Group was. WOW! We had the best time ever! You asked if they only played the "pipe" drums.....just wait until you see them play the "pipe" horns!!!! I have the DVDs of both their concerts, of which I would love to send you copies, but I don't know how. 😢
This was a fantastic tour. Tracy Bonham was out with them, too, and her performance of Black Dog was incredible. Venus Hum blew me away and I lined up and bought their CD from them after the show.
I saw The Blue Man Group show twice at Universal Orlando. It's the most fun and creative experience one could possibly have. and it's worth every penny, no matter how many pennies it is.
I actually saw this live when it was touring and all I can say is that it was one of the best rock concerts of my life-the energy/wit/talent you see/feel in this video is the same throughout the entire show. At more than one point they had the entire audience out of their seats and fist pumping/head banging like a proper rock show. Love these guys.
In the broadest sense, Blue Man Group are percussionists. Of ALL instruments... and some previously unknown 'musically enabled' objects. It is DEFINITELY worth a watch. Yepp, I totally agree, this performance is a no-sadness zone.
Wow! What an amazing show. I can remember the first time I saw this group on TV about thir... well, lets just say it was a long time ago. And then it was just three "blue men" on stage doing amazing percussion. But this is something else. Absolutely wonderful! I have never seen Donna Summer done quite like this. Hats off to the vocalist who absolutely slays it!!
please know that there´s two performance-modes you can experience the blu man groups in (i personally saw the 3 original blue men at the begin of the 90ies in new york). mode 1) a smaller outlay with mainly satirical content and some music-numbers inbetween = 3 blue men and a small band 2) the big rock concert outlay (like the one you just saw) with some satirical numbers inbetween = 3 blue man and orchestra ... the two modes are basically vice versa in content.
I attended this "blue man rock star" concert in Hershey Pa many years ago. One of the best shows i ever seen. everybody was up and dancing. Nice mix of comedy and rock music
I've seen Blue Man Group 4 times at the Astor Place Theater in NY, and I've seen 2 of their concert tours including the one you're watching in this video. I've never been disappointed in the quality of the music or the performance value. BMG is by far the best bang for your entertainment buck. I will totally buy tickets to see them again. If you're ever in NY, go see their Off-Broadway show at the Aster Place Theater. You'll never forget it. There is a reason they have been performing their since 1991. It's that good.
I saw that tour in Detroit and it was amazing. Blue Man Group is so much fin and Venus Hum is great, Love their song "Soul Sloshing", I bought the album and video of the tour, highly recommended. Tracy Bonham was on that tour also.
It took a while for her to get back the power and control that she had in this video.
And she has an infectious smile.
I didn't realize that had happened. Would explain why I am so missing her and Venus Hum
Just yesterday Venus Hum released a new cover version of "I Feel Love" in celebration of the 20th anniversary of this performance!
Yeah, Venus Hum are BACK!!!!
Annet strean is wonderful. And this show is épic!
The fact that her voice cut through that wall of sound... Amazing

You should be sure and add "w/ Venus Hum" to the video description to give credit where credit is due. The singer for Venus Hum takes this video to the next level with her voice!
You are correct!
Venus Hum's smile lifts my heart from darkness.
may be the most electric mesmerizing 6 minutes of rock and roll ever
But did you know/recognise the song. It is "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer released in 1977. Waaaay ahead of her time. The album was called "I Remember Yesterday".
Yes they are insanely GREAT!!!
Y'all be safe
Venus Hum is awesome. They took a song by Donna Summer & co-written by Donna and made it even better.
Yeah she wa for sure laying it all out there for this!! SPECTACULAR Performance!!!
Oh, used to watch this all the time! The entire show is a great watch.
I saw The Blue Man Group show twice at Universal Orlando. It's the most fun and creative experience one could possibly have. and it's worth every penny, no matter how many pennies it is.
I was in the poncho seats in Chicago WOW JUST WOW. Theater vs full show is different
This was historic. Annette was killing it and this will performance will be hard to top.
I’ve been twice, super entertaining both times!!!
In the broadest sense, Blue Man Group are percussionists. Of ALL instruments... and some previously unknown 'musically enabled' objects. It is DEFINITELY worth a watch.
Yepp, I totally agree, this performance is a no-sadness zone.
Saw them at the Charles Play house back in 1996, so much fun!!
"Time to start" is also another good tune from this show. It was also used in an intel ad back in the early 2000s
The original is one of the most important songs ever made.
Did you notice her dress flashed to the beat of the blue man fast drummin?
you have to see them live. So much fun!!
Amazing seeing them in person! Took my hubby for his birthday a few years ago. Awesome! Just don’t sit too close to the front!
Thanks kids, for making me feel old now!!
Unless you don't mind the possibility of them shoving a camera "DOWN YOUR THROAT"! (fun times!)
Love it!
F* YES!! LOVE THIS SONG!!!
please know that there´s two performance-modes you can experience the blu man groups in (i personally saw the 3 original blue men at the begin of the 90ies in new york). mode 1) a smaller outlay with mainly satirical content and some music-numbers inbetween = 3 blue men and a small band 2) the big rock concert outlay (like the one you just saw) with some satirical numbers inbetween = 3 blue man and orchestra ... the two modes are basically vice versa in content.
I attended this "blue man rock star" concert in Hershey Pa many years ago. One of the best shows i ever seen. everybody was up and dancing. Nice mix of comedy and rock music
If I remember correctly:
3 blue men (percussions)
3 percussionist (right stage)
1 drummer (on drum set) (center rear)
4 multi instruments (horns, percussions, samples, etc) (left stage)
1 bass, 2 guitars, 4 singers...
Loved this! Great reaction.
Venus Hum backed up by Blue Man Group. What a night out. I love her.
It's that good.
saw them live in vegas about 15 years ago, one of the best shows i have seen.. so entertaining.
Annette is a great vocalist for sure
I've seen them live in orlando in 2008.Amazing performance
I saw that tour in Detroit and it was amazing. Blue Man Group is so much fin and Venus Hum is great, Love their song "Soul Sloshing", I bought the album and video of the tour, highly recommended. Tracy Bonham was on that tour also.
This is one of those videos where you just have to say, "WOW", that was amazing.
