I genuinely cannot tell why I prefer the old animations. The new ones are objectively better, and the new version is even funnier. Nostalgia, maybe?
i prefer the old one since they got papyrus' arm, spine and leg bones the correct color
new neck for papyrus is as floppy as a spaghetti noodle maybe? i dunno
@@weirdguy8058nope new one got it correct
@@weirdguy8058old one is wrong actually, papyrus has black sleeves

When I watched the remastered animation, it made me realise how underrated empty-eyed Sans is among the fandom, he's waaay scarier/intimidating with empty eyes than with the blue left eye which isn't that special anymore since it's way overused in all fan works, not to mention the AU characters that always has that eye 'active' so to speak.
So yeah, I'd like more empty-eyed Sans in my suggested Undertale artwork thanks.
THANK YOU! Besides, he only ever uses his left eye for attacks, he never uses it when talking anyway.
@@jaxsterminator8634 Pretty sure he never even uses it for attacks. Doesn't he only use it at the end to teleport you back to the centre of the square?
@@randomlyannoying Yeah, you’re right. He also uses his blue and yellow eye to throw you around before his special attack.
I draw empty eye sockets sans' cuz its way more easier
His yellow/blue eye is only used while sans uses magic attacks (gaster blasters and telekinesis) , and besides the empty eyes are intimidating as *FUCK* ingame
I just kinda wish that the new version muffled the drums when sans said, “You’re only still alive because i made a promise” like they did in the old version but its fine, both are good in their own ways, personally i like the new version better
oh, THAT’S why it didn’t hit the same
now i want someone to upload the new version with the og audio
ehhh, i think the fact that the new one only slightly muffles the instrumentals fits better, especially with the animation. in the old one, it's a full stop, literally giving us flashes of sans in the judgement hall. in the new one, it's just us looking up from the call with papyrus to sans who is sitting right beside us, so that wouldn't warrant a sudden change in the instrumental
also i like that the new one doesn't give much attention to it in the music. it's just a blink and you'll miss it moment, which would fit since a lot of people would probably breeze through the line without paying much attention and since sans is always in the background. fitting that even his threat doesn't get much focus until the end of the song, where he makes good on it and dunks frisk during the genocide route.
Literally had to edit it where I only kept that part of the og and meshed it with the remastered
As much as I love the original, I like the remastered version better, the part where Papyrus's head becomes an actual human skull made me laugh so hard

the red in the remaster is good
Bro said 💀 literally
Sans is ugly in new version
The new one just captures the essence of undertale so much better to me, plus the mixed media with the sprites adds alot
Ikr? Especially this bit 3:59 to 4:12
Though I prefer old’s proportions for Pap for some reason.
@@albireo2990 it might be that were more used to paps being like 5x sans' height??? I wanna add to my original comment too that old feels like its trying to be hyperrealistic which just isnt undertale
@@albireo2990 thats fair. The old papyrus model had charm imo. the new one is silly and more accurate tho so i like it more
I like the new animation more overall but I prefer the older human design
gonna be honest left papyrus looks better but right sans looks better. the amount right paps moves his neck is unsettling
I think so too, the new animation is insanely good but too energetic and bouncy, even for someone like paps
well right shows more of his personality and gives him more character and quality so i think right is better.
The way left papyrus moves his jaw is weird looking. In the game it basically just goes up and down
In my opinion, both look good to me.
@@pixlv6384 Thats mostly a problem with the rig though, they couldn't exactly change it because it was a pre-made model.
I like how scarcely the new one used sans' bad time eye, because it's only really seen once in game, and every other time that people would normally use the bad time eye, they used the often underutilized empty eyed look of sans, and, honestly the new animation makes it seem to fit more with undertale as a game, compared to the often darker fandom that portrays it
Also in the original the bad time eye just looked like a slightly blue unnaturally big eye
everything looks spot on to the game sprites
except frisk's head size
I totally agree with this. Sans’ glowing eye is only seen three times on the Genocide run (during his opening attack, his final attack, and if you try pushing the box before he falls asleep), whereas his eyeless sprite is used way more (including twice on the Pacifist route, during the MTT Resort conversation and before the Asriel sprite), so this just makes sense.
@@MarthaVsHumanity holy sh you're so right
literally just replayed the sans fight to confirm this and it is true
“Bad time eye”..
A mix of both would be really good. There's some parts like the undyne cameo and the first part where first walks through all the locations in the old version would be better then the updated alternatives
Really wish Undyne was in the new version tbh

Exactly what I wanted.
There should be a re-remake of To The Bone combining the best elements of both and adding new stuff to it.
I think the remastered has the better animation objectively, but the characters feels off. I think it's the facial expressions, Frisk just always having a blank stare just added to the og music video.
yeah but would be odd if frisk just didnt react at ALL like it looks off in the og too i like that they added more character to frisk in the new one instead of just a still face. just shows more effort
@@TheOffspringy I think part of the charm in Undertale *was* the constant monotone face of Frisk when surrounded by the utter chaos that is the monsters, but that's just me honestly.
@@checkerhat327same
I noticed that Frisk and Sans have some pretty strange leg movements in the walking parts, too, with the way their legs/feet sweep or curl upward after each step.
@@checkerhat327 nope, not just you at all, frisks poker face is one of the many reasons why i love undertale so much
i dont know what the others are saying but the new one is honestly much better, way more creative and expressive, a quarter of the old video was just undertale gameplay with the song over it, i think people are saying the old one is better due to nostalgia.
I agree, but something about the new Papyrus model looks off.
@@Creeper_Ducki think it’s the neck

@@ARandomEliatrope maybe, but isn't that just how papyrus looks in-game? Maybe I'm too use to seeing Papyrus less cartoony.
I can't tell which one I like better. I'd probably have to say the new one, because the animation is so clean and smooth. However the older one is a classic, so you can't really dislike it.
The old one has also smooth animation and better/fitting models for the vibe it's trying to give.
@@alexanderthegreat-mx5zu I think I have to respectfully disagree! the way papyrus' mouth moves in the old one feels.. unnerving, to me. I totally get what you're saying, and I understand your opinion, but to me the newer one is leagues above! I really like the new version's animation actually! some people have said they like the old papyrus model better, but I actually like how cartoony and bouncy the new one is, at least compared to how stiff the old one was. and of course, we finally have the optimal sans model, that's him right there. sans.
i feel the same about it! i dont really understand how people like the old papyrus model better. personally, i think the old papyrus model looked a bit strange while he was talking, and i love the cartoony vibe overall with the new one
@@wynseasI like the new papyrus but I do kinda miss the old one in how much bigger and more realistic he was
One of the things I wished carried over the most was the scene at the beginning when papyrus is just dragging frisk welcoming them to the underground
@@Ben_c-j4u i get that! it was a fun scene i agree
@@Ben_c-j4uyea thats one of the few things i prefer over the original
the new one's intro scene felt like we were playing an undertale VR game or smth
the old one was funnier in that regard too
Straight up yeah that's sans. That's him right there
For me, I really like the new one better. The old one captures more of the entire Undertale cast like a Neutral route, while the new one shows the closeness to Sans and Papyrus, but also tells the story of the Genocide Route. Plus giving Papyrus the eyeballs like he has in his icons fits super well and is very comical, but also making Sans' empty eyes really makes him more terrifying than the one yellow eye.
I'm really glad they got Coda to make this for them! It looks so good!!!
new one has a better instrumental ngl, the old one just seems to loop a lot while the new one tries to vary throughout the song for different lyrics
same goes for five long nights
Nah, the feeling and rhythm and everything else is better than before. in animation. It reflects UT's canon and originality very well, but the new one is just too.. animatik.
Wait the lyrics are the exactly the same tho
@@Tello-Vision i didnt say the lyrics were changed, i said the instrumental tries to change for every verse that needs it
Wait the music actually changed??
@@AsterWi yeah? you didnt notice? it's most prominent during the "you're only still alive because i made a promise" part, because instead of the music being completely muffled and being dramatic, it just quiets down a little
it's also noticeable in the part leading up to "hey, papyrus mind your manners!" verse, because in the old one the instrumental is a simple loop while in the new one it actually changes a bit after sans talks to paps
i personally think the vocals match the newer models more? especially papyrus’s bouncer movement expresses his goofyness alot better, sans’s is also really good too. especially since his eyes emote for him and the mouth gets bigger and smaller and he isnt just making the same single expression the entire time
yea, the one on the right looks like the original and the one on the left looks like an amateur animator reanimated it to practice
Combining both versions of the song actually sounds hella good.
New one is just much better. Everything is just way more skillful compared to old one. A lot of creative ideas, a lot of camera work and amazing effects, especially the derpy Paps and Sans faces, they're just peices of art on their own. Also NO undertale gameplay which means that everything was animated. It's just that much better.
I perfer the undertale gameplay compared to those goofy-ass walking animations 💀
Theirs more to it than just looking good the old one had many iconic moments like papyrus dragging frisk and papyrus just generally being way bigger than everybody and the “your only still alive” line hits way harder in the old one
Although I thought the new one had some cool moments as well like when papyrus gets mad at the creepy pasta joke visual gag and the end of the new one with the sans fight was also cool
I don’t think one is better than the other they both have their strengths
@@BananaMan-wc8ruthats just the way the characters walk lmao

The new one is more expressive and more smoother than the old one.
The old one have a old charm and an nostalgia and an archive of the community back then.
4:02 The remastered part really had me 😂
I noticed this cool detail. The left side consists of the pacifist route, and a little genocide route appears whenever sans solo sings.
While the right side only has genocide and neutral route vibes, genocide appearing without sans going solo, the end shows that paps died and sans fights you, meaning that yes, it is the genocide route that frisk(player) choose.
Edit: 7 months later and i will ad some details I found on both left and right. I will say it in the replies.
I saw the remastered version as going through 3 separate timelines; pacifist, neutral, genocide, in that order.
@@isaacskinner5565nah, the asgore 1:18 part of the remaster is the neutral asgore fight OR the beginning of the asreil fight(pacifist), sans’s date 2:44 in pacifist, and sans fight 4:28 in genocide respectively. Meaning that it’s mixed up, not in a proper order
@@isaacskinner5565 if fact, the sans date and asgore is the only part that is pacifist, the rest like ”Trough all you travels your sins will follow 1:24 ” is genocide/neutral themed

wow, you really paid a lot more attention to everything than i did. Ye i think you're right.
I love the few references to the older animation, like 3:33
i overall prefer the original animation, it may not be as polished as the new one, but i think it was perfect as it is other than that in my honest opinion, has nothing to do with my nostalgia for it. i preferred the original art style and how each scene played out in the original, but it doesn't hurt to make remakes of animations and songs, the new one is great too.
Exactly my opinion. No nostalgia bias or anything, straight up the animations and models fit better with the song.
The new models really make you realize how unsettling and uncanny the old ones were
Honestly, I kinda prefer the original.
Don't get me wrong, the remaster is also really good. Like, the animation is really smooth and objectively better than the old one's and also has better visual comedy. And the music of the new one definitely adds a small bit more. Though there are some gripes I have with the remaster. For example, the animation can get a bit too floaty and bouncy for it's own good at times. While the old animation was stiff and dated, it definitely fit with the music and it's movement limits actually helped a bit. I also think the old music is better despite what the new ones add. The best example is two of Sans's solo parts. The "You're only still alive because I made a promise" and his solo part in the final chorus part actuall got quite downgraded in the remaster. San's solos got a new demonic ish voice and sound less menacing as a result. While the original had his voice stay the same but sound more serious than usual, while also muffling the instruments to add to the ominous effect.
No hate to the remaster. Coda did an amazing job in animating and has talent, and I could see what JT was going for, but the overall product unfortunately ended up a tad bit weaker than the original. Still like it a ton though.
I like the remake’s animation more, but I like the original version of the song more. I think it’s because the OG has a sort of “edge” in the music and vocals that fits the vibe, which remake doesn’t have
I think the couple of extra instruments, like in the Toriel scene, or the first sans/papyrus snow interaction sounds better, but the left side would otherwise remain my undisputed favorite
If only someone could add those instruments into a copy of the old video lol
Until the parts after frisk kills papyrus
I feel it is a fairly light hearted song over all.
@@GaymerSunday21789 not the Underfell type of edge. The music in the remake just feels more “round” I guess??? I meant edge as in the “texture” of the music. I know it makes no sense but that’s pretty much the only way I can describe it. Anyways the original is more “crunchy” and I prefer that
I really like the remaster, it has so many interesting angles and movements. Despite the fact that Sans smiles all the time in this remake, his facial expressions are more expressive than in the old video.
Sans physically never changes his mouth expression-
sans didn't even move his mouth a pixel in the original
he also only uses his blue/yellow eye just 1 time in the animation and mostly uses his empty eyes.
In the game the blue eye appears like 3 times in the genocide route only
The new one is simply better for the most part. I never liked how the OG uses in-game footage in several places; it felt like they gave up on animating the whole thing (which I fully understand but it was still worse off for it). It’s cool that they remastered it when it could’ve been left alone just fine
i love how at 4:08 papyrus's head is turned into a realistic skull
Yeah!
Because he was so mad
3:59 - 4:11 the remake made this funny af

I really like how the left one ends more than the right one, the stab on the two *BLUE* bones looks really awkward and Sans' smile just looks super off.

4:30 this part and the rest of the song were peak but for the part where Frisk attacks Sans I would’ve liked gaster blasters because of the way the bass feels
I learned two things from this video.
1. Nostalgia catches up to you fast.
2. Animation has came a very long way.
Thanks so much for this!!!

Idk which one I prefer tbh, both have stuff they do better than the other. Like the new one has much better models and animation(like what the hell was old Toriel 1:58). But I also like some of the old visuals like showing several bosses. Also don’t really like how the new one is genocide. I like how with the exception of seeing Asgore with the souls it was kinda left ambiguous if it was genocide or neutral. Also papyrus’ neck in the new one is weird
Toriel must have mixed up the butterscotch and buttercups
I love the comparison cuz it makes me realize that both are good but some parts could be swapped out to be better
4:07 I don’t know if the one on the right was supposed to be a reference to that one comic where he gets the realistic skull for the last frame but either way it’s funny
I personally love how animated the right one is
Listening to these side-by-side confirms to me that they only remastered the instrumental and SFX.
Which means they couldn't improve upon the perfection that is the original vocals.
i love the sans in the new animation, it captivates me far better, the graphics are top tier, both are great, and speak to my inner child
If I’m ignoring nostalgia they both have flaws and both have strengths there both good in there own way.
Really hope someone does a fusion of both animations good parts while leaving behind the flaws of both.
But until then the old ones more enjoyable for me cause nostalgia.
Og has it’s charm but I think the new one is the one I like better, I’ve been a fan of the animator of the remasters work for a long while so seeing him animate a full song is something I’ve never knew I wanted

Man the improvement in quality is so massive. Besides some classic shots, it's like a direct upgrade
Sans’s new model is definitely loads better. While the texture and animations are better with Papyrus’s new model, I like the old model more. It is taller, and still quite accurate to Papyrus. Just slap a cartoon filter and fix the inaccuracies in color, then I think it fits great, just like the great Papyrus.
I think the reason why he isn’t as tall is because it’s more accurate to the canon. Cause if you play attention, papyrus isn’t THAT tall. Heck Undyne is taller than him in game. I still prefer him to be taller in the older one but man he feels so short canonically
Well, Papyrus has a pretty standard size on-game, he just feels gigantic because both Frisk and Sans are short
Papyrus is probably like 5’2
Papyrus is actually short, its just when you compare him to sans and Frisk (a literal child) then of course he appears tall
The song itself: I prefer the original voice mixing and as for the instrumental track, it's on par with the 2016 version.

The new version makes sans really menacing ngl, and papyrus looks soo innocent in the remastered, I like both but overall, I can’t choose.
I liked the proportions of the characters in the first one compared to the remastered because Sans' head is SO big compared to Papyrus. Also, Papyrus' movement is a bit unnerving as well as all of their walk cycles being a bit too over exaggerated, they all flip their feet like they're trying to kick snow. They did however make Sans and Papyrus feel more in character, with Papyrus seeming less menacing/angry and with Sans being more true to cannon rather than just heavily leaning on his "ooo scary blue eye i know what you did" trope. The ambience, storytelling, transitions, lighting, and humor are obviously MUCH better compared to the old one.
