There's The Beatles & then there's everyone else.
Everything about this song is great, from John's song writing, to Paul's base lines, Ringo's perfect simplicity, and George's riffing. And George Martin's production. Total timeless perfection.

Can't go wrong with the Beatles. Their is a song in their catalog for just about everyone. The Kinks are from that era 60's to mid 90's Sunny Afternoon, Come Dancing, Celluloid Heroes etc. Glad to see your well and still Rock'n 😎👍🎶
For sure the Kinks as well. Always felt bad that they never got their due. But I still listen to and love many of their songs.

I love this song, as a bass guitarist I love the riff. It is ironic that John is saying "shoot me" in the background although he's referring to shooting drugs. Love these guys and all of their music.

John used to sing "Shoot me!" For a long time in this song!
What an avant-garde man he was! At that time, John was a man who was the exact opposite of Yoko Ono's challenging but pacifist ideas.
That's why they were fascinated by each other.
Yup, The Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn had access to listen to the EMI multi-track tapes and confirmed that John was actually whispering 'Shoot me! , not 'Shoo'! That's really eerie to hear, considering what happened to John. It has a lot of slap-back delay on it and there are handclaps with the vocal, but it's still pretty clear. Good on you for persisting with the Beatles! I'd love to hear your reaction to "I want you (she's so heavy)". I may be wrong but I understand it was the last song they ever recorded where they were all in the studio at the same time. That alone makes it's an emotional song. But there's also something mesmerisingly good about it.

I love how you react to this, its like I did back in my youth driving to school when this first came out. The Beatles ruled. They advanced rock so much. Today’s rock would not be where it is now. I had a 8 track in my car and at least 50% of my pay went to music, not counting what my dad who worked for a vending company and the 45s that came off the juke boxes. I had a unobstructed view of all new up coming music groups. My parents never prevented me from the new music of the day and I thank them for their open mindedness. Today’s music for the most part is disappointing because they lost the talent and the chance to advance what our juke box hero’s started.

I guess the situation for the rights about Beatles songs are very complicated.
Michael Jackson bought them in 1985 from a studio, but later after his death, his family/ heirs sold them out to Sony I think.
Paul McCartney has sued and I believe in 2024 him and Yoko will have ownership to all of the songs.

I agree....there is little otherness to modern music. So many artists back then strove to set themselves apart and not by adding another tattoo or piercing but by busting their ass to get it right.
I've loved this song/album since finding it in my dad's collection around 1973 or so! Although musicaly brilliant, i was always transfixed by Lennon's strange lyrics, and to this day i still haven't completely fathomed the song's meaning! As for 'Mean Mr Mustard', don't get me started. :)
I think it is autobiographical, almost poking fun at himself, as well as Yoko.

If you want bands where each song sounds different, you should really check out Jethro Tull - 20+ studio albums that sound different, with great song writing, masterful musicianship, and a flute!

If you were any other group in late 1969, if they weren't already overawed by what the Beatles had put out since 1965 - Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers, White Album, Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, Let it be (recorded before Abbey Rd) you'd be thinking, I've only just worked out Help, How the fcuk do I compete with the rest of it!!!

Congrats on getting a Beatles reaction through the blocking.
Yeah, it's sad that the songs today aren't as imaginative, but I guess it was inevitable. All of these great artists grew up at a time when they didn't have much of anything to amuse themselves with, so they had to rely mainly on their own imaginations. People today have too many things to distract their minds with, so our imaginations don't develop as well.
Same with everyone - not just the artists. I grew up with 3 channels of black and white when I was little. Now I look around and see all the people “with eyes like black holes in the sky”. Just waiting for the next artificial stimulation I guess!
