This is a great pattern and great tutorial. I am size L and have managed to adapt with same stitch count. I had a load of Fluffy Day yarn (it is like mohair. meant to be DK but hard to handle). So..... I did rib band on 6mm (same number of stitches) but with single back stich, not slip stitch. Then changed to 8mm (I would not do this on regular Aran yarn as it may look odd... but with mohair type yarn, it works). I have then followed pattern. I am up to armhole bit, but just eyeballing! I will let you know my progress. Only put this on here because I can see there is interest in larger sizes and certainly not a complaint for a very informative video x
Yes, I would love to hear how its going. I'm a self taught crocheter and made this pattern based on my own body so I'm not really sure the best way to size up the pattern. Your experience with making it would be super helpful to other people!
@@rosaferns - I think the proper way to make larger is by the way you said to someone else. Just increase the stitches for front panels... and back panel in proportion. I was just very lucky that my yarn looks good on a way too large hook. I will certainly keep you updated. Finished all 3 panels today and on my large hook with back loop hdc, it is working well. Questions: 1. How long is the yarn per 100g? 2. Are you using a UK Size 5 hook or a 5mm hook? (not the same) I started this Cardigan, because I wanted to use up leftover Aran weight yarn. Or I at least I thought it was. I wear XS-S normally, but using a 5mm hook like you said, I had to tripple the stitch count... so either the yarn is too thick, the hook size too small, or you are very tiny and thin. @rosaferns I have a question. I had the same measurements after the ribbing part, 50 cm. But I don't have the same stitch conut, which now means that I can't devide the back panel into 24, 53, 24. I have like 24, 83,24. I have followed along the video and have been watching it so many times but still don't get it right. How can I devide this?😂 this is my second try
I used around 500 grams (600-700 meters) but this might vary for you, it will depend on the type of yarn your using :) This is the yarn I used: www.hobbycraft.co.uk/womens-institute-grey-soft-and-smooth-aran-yarn-400g/601719-1012
A gauge for the ribbing and for the body would be most helpful. Someone earlier commented about getting rippling when moving onto the body. I'm getting the same thing, I think because my ribbing is tighter than yours and so when I move onto the body the 6 mm hook is too big. I went down a size and it's still giving me ripples, but when I stretch out the ribbing, it is fine. I added more rows to the ribbing than you, just assuming I'm a larger size, but now I think it was just that I was crocheting too tight. So a gauge would be helpful. You can measure it now and let us know what it is, so that those in the future won't have the same problems.
Hey truly love 🥰😍💜this cardigan and I wanna give it a try but I don't know were to start especially with the measurements. Like how did you measure yourself please do help me
Great tutorial! For the sleeves, do you have to calculate the exact number of stitches your sleeves have in the last round (therefore decrease or increase based on that) in order to line up with the stitches in the armhole of the body?
hi!!! amazing tutorial, I can't wait to get started ♡ I read on previous comments the cardigan should be about a S in sizing which should be perfectly fine for me: if you don't mind, would it be too much of me to ask for shoulder/chest/arm measurements? just to be safe?
Sure, I measured myself so it might not be exactly accurate but I hope it gives you an idea of the sizing :) Shoulder - 42cm/ 16.5 in Chest - 85cm/ 33.5 in Arm - 50cm/ 20 in
Hi! Love your tutorial and I’m trying to reproduce it, I’m at minute 8:00 and I’m shaping the neckline of the front panels. I started the front panel with 29 stitches instead of 24 because i made a bigger size and i was asking myself if i should do more sets of rows with the decrease so that i end up with a narrower row when i start the 5 rows of simple HDC. If i only do 6 sets i end up with 23 stitches. Thank you very much! 🥰I hope i explained myself, English is not my first language 😁😁
It really depends on how wide you want the v-neck to be. You can hold it up to your body and decide based on how it looks. If you like it narrow then don't decrease any more but if you like it a bit more open you can decrease a few more rows. e.g. \ / or \ / \/ \ / I hope that makes sense, let me know if you need any more help :)
Pattern is so amazing, and I am currently in the process of making it! Though i do have a question, what size was this made in? I usually wear a woman's XL, sometimes an L depending on the clothing, just wanna know so i can see how much i may need to tweak the pattern :)
Hey, I'm glad you like the pattern. I made this pattern based on my own body measurements and I am an XS. I have never made clothing for other sizes so I'm not sure the best way to tweak the pattern. I do hope to learn tho
Hi, Love the cardigan, thought I would crochet one for my daughter. However, my daughter is a size 12-14 women's size. I know how to increase the waist and front panel under the arm but, when I come to decrease for the v shape do I need to increase my rows or, do I increase at the top when I've finished increasing as she's a d cup bra size and not sure about fit. I've also figured your formula for front panel stitches and back panel stitches which was very helpful as size and stitches can be worked out when I'm at that point. Thanks Jo.
I haven't actually made a large size, i based this pattern of my own measurements. But I think the v-shape decreases will remain the same. You might need to add a few more rows of decreases, depending on how wide you want the neck area. Hope that made sense haha
This is beautiful! I'm trying to make it, but with my 8 Rows for the body I see that it ruffles allot. Not sure what I did wrong, but yours doesn't look too ruffled, is more flat ... 😩
Well, I would count your stitches, then split the number in half. Then take 5 from the outcome. 1/2 is your middle part, then 1/2 - 5 divided by 2 is for your side parts. Sorry I'm not good in writing math... 😪
I really liked the way you detailed the pattern, though I would prefer it without background music as it was rather monotonous . Though your tutorial was great. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Great video, I'm making the cardigan, at the part of the front panel neckline rn and I'm very surprised by how wavy and big the upper part from the ribbing is getting, I have seen from your previous answers to some comments that some wavyness is to be expected but when I put it on my body to see how the project is going the neckline can't even be perceived by how big and wavy the cardigan is getting. The ribbing looks fine , and I did the same amount of rows in the first HDC than in the ribbing, so one indented, one not, but it's so big, is this normal? Will the cardigan magically make sense once i finish crocheting all or should I stop and revaluate?
Hi Yuno, I'm not sure I completely understand which stage you're at but I'll try my best to help: - So if you at around 4:28, it is normal for your work to be wavy. It's just because the ribbing is smaller than the body. But this should not be insane, it should just be a bit waviness and will flatten out as you continue adding rows. - If you're at around 24:00 and are working on the neckline, there should be no waviness at all. If you do have waviness, reduce the number of stitches you are doing and make sure they're evenly spaced around the neckline I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any clarification :)
@@rosaferns thank you so much for your answer, I am at 4:28 but the wave is insane and I think I know why. When you're explaining the ribbing you state yours is 105 rows, or in other words, 50 cm while not stretched. That's a very small measurement for a waist to be and I mistook what a "row" was for it to make sense. I think I misunderstood what you said in the video when you say it in cm because I saw a size converting chart and an XS in the UK is like 62 cm waist, and this cardigan is supposed to accommodate a UK S. I hope I'm making sense haha. Was your ribbing actually 50 cm unstretched? Or, if it isn't too much to ask, how much is your waist in cm? Thank you again for your time
Hi, when it comes to placing the stitch markers I’ve increased the size of the cardigan so where would i place the stitch markers? Xx I love this cardigan btw
Then when dividing into the front and back panels, use this: a = total stitches (a +5)/2 = back panel stitches b = back panel stitches (b-5)/2 = front panel stitches Let me know if you have any questions and if you need help dividing the stiches up, leave a comment with your total number of stitches and I'll help you out :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it's lovely!! I started hdc onto the ribbing part and I'm three rows in and it's super wavy. Is this normal or is my tension way off??
Don't worry, that is normal. It because the waist band is tight and the cardi is bigger and flares out. After a few more rows it should flatten out a bit. Without seeing a pic I can't be 100% sure, but it sounds right :)
@@Brendizzzz When you do the ribbing band, make sure you do enough rows to fit slightly stretched around your waist. This will give you more stitches so you will need to divide up the panels a bit differently. Use this: a = total stitches (a +5)/2 = back panel stitches b = back panel stitches (b-5)/2 = front panel stitches It's kinda confusing so if you need any help, let me know how many stitches you have :)
To make a larger size just add a few more rows to the body ribbing (it should be big enough to fit comfortably around your waist). Then when dividing it into the front and back panels, use this: a = total stitches (a +5)/2 = back panel stitches b = back panel stitches (b-5)/2 = front panel stitches Everything else should more or less be the same. Let me know if you have any more questions and if you need help dividing the stiches up, leave a comment and I'll help you out :)
Thank you so much. I will try but I'm very new to crochet so may ask for your help once I have my final number of rows for the body ribbing. Excited to start this 😊
@@rosaferns I have 105 rows now but this only fits around half my waist. I'm only a size 8-10. Would I need to double this to 210 rows? I'm worried I'm going to make it too small or too big and really want to persevere as it's a great tutorial
@@clairebatten348 The ribbing band should wrap around you're waist comfortably slightly stretched. The number of rows can also vary depending on the type of yarn you use or how tightly you crochet (tension)
@@rosaferns thank you. I have total 173 so back panel will be 89 and front 42, is this correct? I'm guessing I needed to stop on an odd number. It may turn out too big but I can always undo. I didn't want it too tight so going for a more loose fit
Hi Kayla, I'm not too sure why this happened but it may have to do with your tension (everyone's is different) or the type of yarn you used. To fix the long sleeves, you can just undo them to the point that they fit your arms and then sew them to the body part. I made this cardigan to my sizing (size S or UK 6) so you may need to make slight changes to better fit your body. Let me know if I can help and I'm glad you liked the tutorial :)
My yarn was probably a little bulkier (5) and I only had a 5.75mm hook the whole time. Probably what happened mixed with me making a sweater for the first time, I re-did things so many times 😂
Heey I truly love this cardigan but when making the ribbing can I single crotchet instead of slip stitch since the stitches are difficult to go into. But all in all truly amazing keep doing what you do 💜💜💙
It took me under 2 weeks to make this cardi (Size S) I used around 500 grams (600-700 meters) but this might vary for you, it will depend on the type of yarn your using :) This is the yarn I used: www.hobbycraft.co.uk/womens-institute-grey-soft-and-smooth-aran-yarn-400g/601719-1012
@@rosaferns thanks for replying! Ive amost finished my first arm and the body so all I have to do now is another arm and I think then the ribbing for the neckline your tutorial is just amazing tysm!!:)
I love this pattern sm and I'm making one of my own rn !!! I'm a bigger size so I've been strategizing on how to make it bigger and I just wanted to ask, on the body part around 3:00 when you had to hdc 8 rows after the ribbing, until where did the 8 rows reach on your body? It would really help so I know where to stop ! thanks so much for this video love the work!!!
The 8 rows reached up to the bottom of the sleeves, so a little below the armpit. I made this cardigan based on my body measurements but I would love to learn how to make other sized patterns in the future :)
heyy. The second step with the 8 rows of hdc is really wavy. Im guessing it is because i dont understand the indented row and raised row that much.Or is it another issue?
Hi Kisha, Since the waistband is smaller than the body, it will be wavy at first. This is normal, as you continue the waviness should go away (just make sure you have the correct number of stitches) :)
Love this pattern. One ? When working the neck edge, are you dec on the neck edge on one row, then arm edge on the next row, or just the neck edge every other row keeping the arm edge even?
Hi:)) if I did 105 stitches(?) like you did at the ribbing part, and have to do HDC into every raised and intended row (3:49), doesn't it mean I should have 210 HDC in a row? Mine is also super wavy, like others said before, even after now I'm at the front panel part 🥲
It should be a bit wavy 〰️ but not majorly. There should be the same number of hdc as the number of rows of ribbing. So I did 105 rows and hdc into each of those rows to get 105 hdcs
Tysm for your reply, it means a lot🥺 apparently I did 210 HDC in a row, so I have to restart, but I will try my best and message you later if I still can't do it:)
@@Koboaa I did the same exact thing, once I realized it looked a little funny, I decided to restart the half double crochet and I used half the stitches I did prior. I hope yours turns out beautiful!!❤️
Hey, I'm not too sure why that is but it could be the size of the wool you're using (also sometimes is can depend on how tightly you crochet, it varies person to person). So to fix it, you can use the smaller 5mm hook instead of switching to 6mm. Or you can reduce the number of HDC from 105 to something that fits better, just make sure to evenly space the stiches across the top of the ribbing. Hopefully that helps. If you need me to explain anything, just ask :)
You could make a larger size by increasing the ribbing band to fit your waist. The pattern will need some adjustments tho. I'm still only a amateur crocheter so I haven't tested any other sizes
I’m making this now will post updates 1: Ribbing of 50 cm completed 2: made the first row of hdc (mini problem it appears to be bunching) 3: 2nd row of hdc still bunching🥺not concerned though the bottoms super fitted so when I put it on it looks normal so far 4:
Sorry to bother you. I'd like to make this for my granddaughter but I have purchased 8ply yarn (Australia) which is equivalent to DK. Could you please advise what I'd need to do? Thank you 😊
Hi Margaret, I'm not 100% sure but if they're similar weights, I think you should be able to follow the video. You may have to make slight adjustments like adding more rows to the waistband to make sure the sizing is correct but other than that it should be the same :)

You can measure it now and let us know what it is, so that those in the future won't have the same problems.
Wow very nice
This tutorial was very helpful but I wished I had measurements to make sure if I wanted to I could adjust and make sure I’m doing something right
I'll make sure to add them to any future videos :)
Hey truly love 🥰😍💜this cardigan and I wanna give it a try but I don't know were to start especially with the measurements. Like how did you measure yourself please do help me
Hermoso, ame este diseño, tengo una gran duda antes de seguir avanzando. Voy por las 8 filas de los medios punto,e queda bastante ondulado. Iré bien?
Great tutorial! For the sleeves, do you have to calculate the exact number of stitches your sleeves have in the last round (therefore decrease or increase based on that) in order to line up with the stitches in the armhole of the body?
I’d love to know the answer to this too!!
How did you do it in the end? I’m so confused because I did about 10 more rows at the start until it fit perfectly…
Gracias por este bello video, no encontraba un tutorial que explicará cómo hacer los hojales para botones 🩷
hi!!! amazing tutorial, I can't wait to get started ♡ I read on previous comments the cardigan should be about a S in sizing which should be perfectly fine for me: if you don't mind, would it be too much of me to ask for shoulder/chest/arm measurements? just to be safe?
Sure, I measured myself so it might not be exactly accurate but I hope it gives you an idea of the sizing :)
Shoulder - 42cm/ 16.5 in
Chest - 85cm/ 33.5 in
Arm - 50cm/ 20 in

Gorgeous. Will try it🇧🇼
Very nice pattern. Would like to make the white sweater you are wearing. Do you have a tutorial for it?
If you like it narrow then don't decrease any more but if you like it a bit more open you can decrease a few more rows.
e.g. \ / or \ /
\/ \ /
I hope that makes sense, let me know if you need any more help :)
@@rosaferns Thank you, you’ve been very helpful 😊
I’m making one that’s a bit longer and with chunky wool, almost done can’t wait to wear it
I'd love to see it! That sounds perfect for autumn
Super agradecida , lindo trabajo , bien explicado . Ojala tuviera traductor en español.
I do hope to learn tho
please more videos!!😍😍😍😍
Amazing, im a beginner and im gonna try to make this
Hi, Love the cardigan, thought I would crochet one for my daughter.
Hope that made sense haha
it's soo cute, thank you for the tutorial😍
Thank you for watching :)
This tutorial is good 👌
Glad it was helpful!
How many yards of yarn do you think you used to make this cardigan? Cause I just need to know how many balls of yarn I need to buy.
This is beautiful! I'm trying to make it, but with my 8 Rows for the body I see that it ruffles allot. Not sure what I did wrong, but yours doesn't look too ruffled, is more flat ... 😩
It is normal for the cardigan to be ruffled. It's because the body portion is larger than the waistband. The ruffles should flatten as you continue
Hello, love the tutorial 🤗 but is there a way to calculated the placement of the stitch markers for a bigger or smaller size?
Well, I would count your stitches, then split the number in half. Then take 5 from the outcome. 1/2 is your middle part, then 1/2 - 5 divided by 2 is for your side parts. Sorry I'm not good in writing math... 😪
I really liked the way you detailed the pattern, though I would prefer it without background music as it was rather monotonous . Though your tutorial was great. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank youu, I'm glad you like the tutorial
I love the pattern .. can i use milk cotton ???
I'm not too sure but as long as its a similar size it should work :)
Hi Yuno, I'm not sure I completely understand which stage you're at but I'll try my best to help:
- So if you at around 4:28, it is normal for your work to be wavy. It's just because the ribbing is smaller than the body. But this should not be insane, it should just be a bit waviness and will flatten out as you continue adding rows.
- If you're at around 24:00 and are working on the neckline, there should be no waviness at all. If you do have waviness, reduce the number of stitches you are doing and make sure they're evenly spaced around the neckline
I hope this helps.
Thank you again for your time
@@yunolyra7297 My waist is around 58cm but the cardigan can stretch a lot to at least 70cm
@@rosafernsthank you! I'll try and decrease the amount of HDC that I make right after the ribbing and see if the waving goes down.
i’m having the same problem, is it maybe because i’m using a different kind of yarn? how did you fix it?
Hi, when it comes to placing the stitch markers I’ve increased the size of the cardigan so where would i place the stitch markers? Xx I love this cardigan btw
Then when dividing into the front and back panels, use this:
a = total stitches
(a +5)/2 = back panel stitches
b = back panel stitches
(b-5)/2 = front panel stitches
Let me know if you have any questions and if you need help dividing the stiches up, leave a comment with your total number of stitches and I'll help you out :)
Thank u xx that worked perfectly
@@Sue_beckerx great!!
Beautiful! Great tutorial!!
@@rosaferns Thank you so much for your help!!

Thank you so much!!
Hi! Its so beautifull!! I want to make one for me! Can you tell me the size of this proyect?
Thank you!! This is a size small or a UK size 6
@@rosaferns perfect. I'm think mi size it's medium. How i do to do this proyect in that size?
@@Brendizzzz When you do the ribbing band, make sure you do enough rows to fit slightly stretched around your waist. This will give you more stitches so you will need to divide up the panels a bit differently.
Use this:
a = total stitches
(a +5)/2 = back panel stitches
b = back panel stitches
(b-5)/2 = front panel stitches
It's kinda confusing so if you need any help, let me know how many stitches you have :)
I would really like to make this but I'm a UK size 8-10. Could you possibly tell me how I would adjust for this size?
To make a larger size just add a few more rows to the body ribbing (it should be big enough to fit comfortably around your waist). Then when dividing it into the front and back panels, use this:
a = total stitches
(a +5)/2 = back panel stitches
b = back panel stitches
(b-5)/2 = front panel stitches
Everything else should more or less be the same.
Hi can u share the measurements for large size, I m so much exited to make it. I like this pattern
Mine came out a little baggy in the back/underarm area and long in the arms so I’m not sure what I did, lol. Tutorial was very easy to follow though.
Wow 😍❤️
Heey I truly love this cardigan but when making the ribbing can I single crotchet instead of slip stitch since the stitches are difficult to go into. But all in all truly amazing keep doing what you do 💜💜💙
You totally can, it just might come out a little differently :) I tried the single crochet and ended up not liking how it looked as much.
wow this is literally amazing I am making it now but I was just wondering how much yarn did it use and how log did it take you to make. Thanks again!
It took me under 2 weeks to make this cardi (Size S)
I used around 500 grams (600-700 meters) but this might vary for you, it will depend on the type of yarn your using :)

@@rosaferns omg thank you so much that'll help a lot !! Keep up the good work!!!
@@rosaferns ok thank you
Great work! I'm planning on crocheting one for my best friend. How many hours did this one take you approximetely?
This is so cute! I hope you can make one with short sleeves, too! :)
Love this pattern. One ? When working the neck edge, are you dec on the neck edge on one row, then arm edge on the next row, or just the neck edge every other row keeping the arm edge even?
Thank you! Just the neck edge every other row. The armhole edge should remain straight but the neckline edge will be slanted :)
@@rosaferns thanx for the response. I figured it out and just finishing up my first cardigan!💜
Amazing job!!! I love your tutorial, working on it now. Thank you so much and please make more . Good luck!
Thank you! I've got another video filmed and edited. Just go to do the voice over but exams 😭
Hope that helps if not message me on insta @rosa_crochets and I can send you a photo to explain it better:)
How much yarn did you use? Surprised you did not mention this, it would be very helpful to know!
It’s perfect! But when I’m on the 2nd step (body, 8 rows, 105 HDC) it’s much wider than on the video :( so I have lots of folds. No idea what’s wrong.
@@rosaferns thank you so much for your answer! I tried 4mm and now it’s fine!

You could make a larger size by increasing the ribbing band to fit your waist. The pattern will need some adjustments tho. I'm still only a amateur crocheter so I haven't tested any other sizes
I’m making this now will post updates
1: Ribbing of 50 cm completed

3: 2nd row of hdc still bunching🥺not concerned though the bottoms super fitted so when I put it on it looks normal so far

That sounds good so far. You should expect some wavy-ness :)
