The hair dryer one, i believe, has that warning because some people liked to feel the heat blowing on them and the sound of the dryer while they were going to sleep. Since the dryers were pointed on them all night they would wake up with burns and I imagine there a few fires started. So the companies have to put warnings on the labels for idiots who would think sleeping with dryers is a good idea and then sue. I think there was an episode about it on my strange addictions (or a show similar).
