From my point of view, the problem with the voting in general is that it's way too easy to stage or setup a character to appear more positively or negatively RIGHT BEFORE they go up for voting. You can tease someone with lore or backstory, then put them up for voting to make it more likely that they'll survive. When a character is deliberately written out of character to try to save someone else, it feels... forced. Flower in post-split had several annoying examples of this. When she had her sappy monologue in BFB 24 as a "fake out" for being eliminated, being too dumb to realize TD wasn't interested in being her friend in BFB 27 (which also set up TD negatively even though all she was doing was playing the game), *_everything about BFB 29,_* it feels so inorganic. It's harder than it looks to not play favorites in the writing, and your characters will never be on equal footing all the time. I just hate when I'm watching an object show and I can tell when the writers are trying to throw someone under the bus.
Interesting to see you throwing your (top)hat into the ring on the voting system discussion. All that really can be said is that both systems have their flaws and merits, but going away from either is going to change a core premise of the show. But you’re right in saying that the writers kind of contribute to that problem if they limit the characters you’re able to vote for. Like BFDIA 14, and the voting wars for TPOT 9

For me the main problem with vote to save is that now that the character that's most likely to be eliminated gets in that position not because of their actions, but because of their screentime. That's the another reason coiny got eliminated. He didn't do that much, so people don't really have any reason to vote for him+maybe he shared some of his potential votes with pin, just because she actually did something interesting. Although vote to save is a much better option than vote to eliminate. Sick video btw❤️🔥❤️🩹
BFDIA still has the best voting system, because you can vote for *everyone.* There's no limits. Boot whoever you please, reward whoever you please, and you don't need to make a choice on who to choose between two people. Want to vote to save? You can, just vote everyone else. I suppose it helps that BFDIA has a small cast, and also probably the best one (at least in the reboot, anyway), with not many mean characters that aren't likable (cough BFDI pin cough BFDI Snowball), and they've figured out how to properly keep mean characters around (it's the final 9 and Pencil is still here, despite Freesmart going through two eliminations.) I think TPOT should return to that. Put it on a poll, obviously, and have it be a likes-dislikes thing, but that'd do wonders for the voting system, and they'd get to bring prizes back too.
i don't see many people talk about tpot nines vote, being a donut fan i was nothing but grateful that he got to stay in the game but i never really thought about how coiny was robbed, but imo, anyone in his position in that episode would have been robbed, it just kinda sucks when everyone on the team is so well liked by so many people, while one elimination may satisfy one crowd, it makes another upset, but then again that's just sorta the way this show goes.
ruby and book were put ufe basically as an experiment (as i've deduced from cary's bfdia 15 reaction): they learned that ruby's fanbase isn't large enough to excuse her bad behavior. they had no clue who would be out!

I feel that contestant voting will make things both exciting and unique as viewer voting is just if you have more screentime your safe and if your a villian your out and crap. If it was contestant voting it would make things more intense also yes the evil ones get out SO FAST which ruins the season
I agree with you SO MUCH because, as of recent, one of my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME characters in the OSC in GENERAL got eliminated in the newest TPOT episode, that being Barf Bag. I honestly expected them to do better, given they had a lot of plot points and arcs within the show as of late.
this is why more shows need hybrid voting 1. you can like and dislike characters 2. for the results, subtract dislikes from the likes 3. character with the lowest final number is eliminated this makes controversial characters (like pillow) get around 0, while hated characters with few fans get out sooner with negative votes, and loved characters with few haters last longer with positive votes meh characters also get around 0 and i must add-vote to save and vote to eliminate affect controversial characters weirdly, like pillow. pillow has lots of fans, and lots of haters. in vote to save she's carried, but in vote to eliminate she's doomed. weird

This is so real, I completely agree! And about mean characters… I feel like we really need mean characters too we need the arcs and it can get boring without them, and sometimes I really like them! *ahem* pencil rn. But whenever we do… they got eliminated using vote to eliminate. We even saw that with the BFDIA voting method, where golf ball was eliminated or almost always was in the top two for dislikes (NOOo) I was at the point before the video where golf ball was mentioned when I made the comment btw
As someone who's been writing a little object show on the side: I think Behind the scenes, that's where creators need to kind of make "filler" characters" who can have character builds but *can* be written off the show if they were heavily voted out. For gameshow object shows, I definitely think that creators should accept that unless they have a whole detailed plot and genuinely focus the story on some little guys, even their most favorite creations can be voted out. Your note on Vote To Save is so true though and a reason why I am NOT implementing that in my hyopethtical show :,) Instead I'm writing filler characters and focusing on a select few to focus on. something I feel about object shows is that they add 50 characters and we dont get time to focus on any of them. And even when the character roster is as small as 10-15, we don't get enough time to get to know anyone before we already have to eliminate someone. I like to think that now that Object Show is more of a genre than only one show (BFDI, etc), people are writing their stories and characters to what THEY want to do, not just the fandom's wants (hfjone) IDK if anything I said made sense. But as for "how to fix it? We just have to remove voting, but that would change what BFDI is" The good thing is that Modern object shows are no longer trapped to only do strict voter-run outcomes. I find the idea of writers actually focused on story since *day 1, and not just improv,* as very interesting. Such as how I'm playing with the idea of a host rigging their voters' votes to make a person who shouldn't have been eliminated- eliminated, or saving someone who should have been voted out, etc.
I agree, due to the fact HOW PILLOW CAUSED THE TEAM TO LOSE 3 TIMES, THE ANIMATORS TRIED THEIR BEST TO GET HER OUT AND GUESS WHAT FAN FAVORITES NEVER LOSE. Its so biased its insane. Also on top of it they changed her personality, making her more likable, i wont be suprised if pillow gets in the final 10 at this point, its like “oooo character is so funny even though she flipped the team off 1 BILLION TIMES!” This proves how another factor thats major in TPOT that really affects the game, Bias is so big. I bet if a character was funny, not mean atleast, but made the team lose every episode they wouldnt get out.
If i dont give up on my object show I'm going to make it contestant voting because I have plans for my characters and at first I wanted to make it viewer voting at first but then I realized that I can't force people to vote someone out like manipulate the show to get people out so I just decided to make them vote each other out instead (btw im also mad that Bracelety didnt get in)

I don't remember the name of the voting method but someone had an idea where you vote to eliminate someone and vote to save someone and the saves would be subtracted by the eliminations and whoever has the lowest amount of votes is out.
I like Coiny and its sad that he is out, but im glad Donut is still in, I just want them to start using him again, we already had him and GB beefing last episode, and I hope that beef continues. Also I wont get over the fact that GB and Ruby are out in Bfdia, putting only 2 people ufe is just 💀
My current issue with the BFDIA voting rn is that it's basically the writers decision on who gets voted off, and it doesn't properly feels like "You choose who gets out!" I'm not saying this as in they rig the vote counts in the episode, i mean as in they can write a character mean for one episode or two, and then you can bet that they're basically gone when they're ufe. This would be fine to me if this was a contestant vote show, where the characters vote for other characters to be elminated, but it isn't. I'm glad BFB dropped this after post split but BFDIA still has this issue and I really hope the show doesn't go back to Vote for Elmination after BFDIA ends. I do like the vote for a prize method though, I think that's fun and harmless, especially since it doesn't guarantee immunity. That's all i have to say byebye lma
The biggest problem with vote to save is probably screentime distribution. A character who is relatively well-developed could get out due to a lack of relevance in the episode they were up... the best example of this is probably Eggy and Fries in TPOT 6. In Eggy's case, her and Basketball had the most screentime on their team, but were the bottom two in TPOT 6 due to doing nothing but argue with each other that episode (and in Basketball's case, steal from Golf Ball). Unfortunately for the two of them, Grassy and Snowball are WAY more popular than them, and Robot Flower was the star of her team this episode, leading to Eggy being the boot in a close race against Bell and Basketball. In Fries's case, he had to split votes with Eraser and Puffball, both of whom were more relevant than him in TPOT. He actually didn't do much in TPOT up until TPOT 5... but unfortunately for him, TV was in the same predicament, and unlike Fries, TV doesn't have any friends to share the votes with him, leading to Fries being the boot in a close race against Eraser and Tennis Ball.
I feel like the only mean characters who should get booted early are the annoyingly mean characters, like characters whose whole personality is just they are rude to everyone with no remorse. Mean characters with actual arcs like trophy are the characters who should make it farther imo.
reminds me of heather from total drama island (S1) she had a whole arc and everything despite being mean and made it to the final 3 (it would be a different story if viewers got to vote tho-))

If you were able to vote to save 3 characters per team. The issue of people assuming someone will be safe would be gone. For instance, in tpot 13, on DPYA, I voted gaty to be safe, but if I could gote 3 characters, I would vote Gaty, Fanny, and Black Hole.
If I'm gonna be honest, they should've done the way Inanimate Insanity 11 did where the first few characters in both teams are picked to be safe before the bottom two. Tho, tbh. I think this is more of a TPOT problem than a BFDIA problem.
I think BFDI should move towards an electoral college system, where audience members vote a regional representative who's better qualifed to vote who should be eliminated or stay, and then all the electors should meet to decide.
the votes were not close in bfdia 15 also i prefer the more popular Characters being UFE because it give the less popular Characters like fries or bomby more screen time and because they get more screen time they will probably be more liked
Fiery Junior is one of my favorite characters and I don’t think he deserves as much hate as he did back then but I kinda get why, but I wasn’t even that much jerkish
I feel like that it should be vote to eliminate. Since vote to save. you have so many favourites on the same team that you dont want gone but you have to choose your ABSOLUTE favourite. With vote to save, you may like a character but you vote someone you like more. For example like balloony in post split where if it was vote to eliminate, balloony would've survived most likely. I feel like that vote to eliminate is the better option.
I think that the writers purposefully put ruby and book UFE just to get ruby out, seeing as most BFDIA predictions had her winning BFDIA and seeing one of the most liked contestants get eliminated is a chance to shake up the entire season, most likely to not make the season too predictable, like the TPOT 9 situation, coiny getting out sucks but if another contestant like gaty or donut had got out most likely coiny would have won or would've placed 10th-1st in TPOT, overshadowing characters like donut's leader situation with GB.
i think the way to really fix voting is to rank contestants lets say you have 5 people UFE you can rank them from 5th to 1st 5th = 1 vote, 1st = 5 votes whoever gets the least is out
tbh, I always vote to save the contestant who is more likely to stay (such as Book for example) based on their importance, plot armour, relevance, or how bad I feel for them. If they kept the Vote to eliminate, I'd be voting for Bottle cuz I found her bothersome
The problem with viewer voting is that, because the audience gets to decide where and how the story goes, this can derail a LOT of planned story arcs. With the only solutions to that are to drag the contestants from being up for elimination a bit longer or write a character to be as appealing as possible to get them to continue. When all character development planned can be gone in an instant, it's clear the writers need to force the tide of the story. To me, the better solution would NOT to force story arcs for characters in a way that requires the characters to be present for longer than viewers want. Arcs can end short and simple while still being satisfying. In hindsight, BFDI should've stayed vote to eliminate. Predictability isn't bad. It's the execution that matters more. Hence why we got BFB Alt, which seems to try and rectify the problems fans had with BFB Post-Split with a roster that makes more sense as seen in the pilot. Or BFB But Loser Never Shows Up continued by Blazer 500, who manages to make me care about the characters with a longer episode time to develop characters naturally rather than forcing arcs to drag out. Trust me, BFBBLNSU manages to make the viewers care for Bracelety, Eggy, and Foldy.
Imo they should use a modified bfdia elimination method where you can vote you you want to save and who you want to get out. Then take the total votes to eliminate and subtract them from the votes to save
the one problem i waited the entier video for didint show up. NON OBJECTS. veiwers dont care but look at every bfb pre split elimanation that had a non object on the team. they were allways in the bottom 3. beep 1st elimanation Roboty bottom 3 and David bottom 2. Death PACT had Black Hole wich is not bottom 3 but bottom 4. Beep again with David and Roboty bottom 2. A Better Name Then That. Robot Flower was botttom 3. FREE FOOD had Yellow Face Bottom 3. Beep Again Had David Elimanated. And Finnaly bleh Dora Was elimanated even though she was mostly the reason for her girls scout team's immunity streak
I think both the issues with vote to save and eliminate are really more issues with first past the post voting. Ranked choice voting would be better but try explaining that to an audience of small children
This ended up being very long. Apologies. So it seems like the problem with the voting is that people are basing their votes with ideas of who others will vote. (ex. "Circle, Square, and Triangle are ufe. Circle is my favorite so I obviously won't vote for them. I really want Triangle out because such and such, but Triangle has a pretty big fanbase meaning most of the votes will be for Circle and Square. That means that if I vote Triangle, it would be useless. Therefore, I need to vote for Square even though I like them. This will give Circle more of a chance to stay safe.") A way to fix this would be to have ranked voting where viewers rank each character in order of who they want to stay (if vote to save) or who they want to eliminate (if vote to eliminate). Example of how this would work: "looking at everyone's top votes, it seems that no single character has over 50% of the total votes. Since character n has the least percentage of people voting for them as their first choice, we can look at those people's second choices. We'll keep doing this until one character has over 50% of the votes. (There are plenty of videos explaining this far better than me.) This way, people don't have to worry about if their opinion matches with others. The only problems with this that I can think of at the moment is 1. Some people may not want to put in the time to rank all x number of characters. And 2. JnJ would have a bit more work to do, but considering that Cary is a nerd and the coding to automatically do it is pretty simple, they likely wouldn't mind. Hopefully this made sense and apologies again for the longness.
Edit: Fuck, somebody already said this😭 TBH a way better and easier way is to just have 2 votes like liking and disliking, but instead of liking/voting to get a prize… its to subtract a vote. For Example; [1] to subtract a vote from somebody, [B] to add a vote on somebody! Should be done in object shows… IDK WHY😭
the thing with ruby is that people voted her to be out because she was asbusing pin and I guess also for being a idiot (thats what some people said about her being a idiot) and book just has hate from ruby fans for no absolute reason (sorry if I didn't read the comments and someone said something else like this)
I'm a Ruby fan, and i think she deserved to go out, plus i never hated book or anything during the ep. 14 voting period Still, i'm glad that Ruby wasn't that bad ever again in BFB (since it happens after BFDIA and IDFB).

Yeah, if Bracelety joined, i would've happy with it, but i'm still happy with Pencil in TPOT. Still, i don't think she will make it that far in the season, since she's a veteran, had lots of screentime during the first 2 seasons, and mid-season debuters don't usually get far.

As someone who's been writing a little object show on the side: I think Behind the scenes, that's where creators need to kind of make "filler" characters" who can have character builds but *can* be written off the show if they were heavily voted out. For gameshow object shows, I definitely think that creators should accept that unless they have a whole detailed plot and genuinely focus the story on some little guys, even their most favorite creations can be voted out.
Your note on Vote To Save is so true though and a reason why I am NOT implementing that in my hyopethtical show :,)
Instead I'm writing filler characters and focusing on a select few to focus on. something I feel about object shows is that they add 50 characters and we dont get time to focus on any of them. And even when the character roster is as small as 10-15, we don't get enough time to get to know anyone before we already have to eliminate someone. I like to think that now that Object Show is more of a genre than only one show (BFDI, etc), people are writing their stories and characters to what THEY want to do, not just the fandom's wants (hfjone)

We just have to remove voting, but that would change what BFDI is" The good thing is that Modern object shows are no longer trapped to only do strict voter-run outcomes. I find the idea of writers actually focused on story since *day 1, and not just improv,* as very interesting. Such as how I'm playing with the idea of a host rigging their voters' votes to make a person who shouldn't have been eliminated- eliminated, or saving someone who should have been voted out, etc.
I agree, due to the fact HOW PILLOW CAUSED THE TEAM TO LOSE 3 TIMES, THE ANIMATORS TRIED THEIR BEST TO GET HER OUT AND GUESS WHAT FAN FAVORITES NEVER LOSE. Its so biased its insane. Also on top of it they changed her personality, making her more likable, i wont be suprised if pillow gets in the final 10 at this point, its like “oooo character is so funny even though she flipped the team off 1 BILLION TIMES!” This proves how another factor thats major in TPOT that really affects the game, Bias is so big. I bet if a character was funny, not mean atleast, but made the team lose every episode they wouldnt get out.
If i dont give up on my object show I'm going to make it contestant voting because I have plans for my characters and at first I wanted to make it viewer voting at first but then I realized that I can't force people to vote someone out like manipulate the show to get people out so I just decided to make them vote each other out instead (btw im also mad that Bracelety didnt get in)

I don't remember the name of the voting method but someone had an idea where you vote to eliminate someone and vote to save someone and the saves would be subtracted by the eliminations and whoever has the lowest amount of votes is out.

My current issue with the BFDIA voting rn is that it's basically the writers decision on who gets voted off, and it doesn't properly feels like "You choose who gets out!"
I'm not saying this as in they rig the vote counts in the episode, i mean as in they can write a character mean for one episode or two, and then you can bet that they're basically gone when they're ufe. This would be fine to me if this was a contestant vote show, where the characters vote for other characters to be elminated, but it isn't. I'm glad BFB dropped this after post split but BFDIA still has this issue and I really hope the show doesn't go back to Vote for Elmination after BFDIA ends. I do like the vote for a prize method though, I think that's fun and harmless, especially since it doesn't guarantee immunity. That's all i have to say byebye lma
The biggest problem with vote to save is probably screentime distribution. A character who is relatively well-developed could get out due to a lack of relevance in the episode they were up... the best example of this is probably Eggy and Fries in TPOT 6.
In Eggy's case, her and Basketball had the most screentime on their team, but were the bottom two in TPOT 6 due to doing nothing but argue with each other that episode (and in Basketball's case, steal from Golf Ball). Unfortunately for the two of them, Grassy and Snowball are WAY more popular than them, and Robot Flower was the star of her team this episode, leading to Eggy being the boot in a close race against Bell and Basketball.
In Fries's case, he had to split votes with Eraser and Puffball, both of whom were more relevant than him in TPOT. He actually didn't do much in TPOT up until TPOT 5... but unfortunately for him, TV was in the same predicament, and unlike Fries, TV doesn't have any friends to share the votes with him, leading to Fries being the boot in a close race against Eraser and Tennis Ball.
I think they book and ruby up for elimination and made book do great because they want to do something with ruby’s sisters in the elimination
I feel like the only mean characters who should get booted early are the annoyingly mean characters, like characters whose whole personality is just they are rude to everyone with no remorse. Mean characters with actual arcs like trophy are the characters who should make it farther imo.
reminds me of heather from total drama island (S1) she had a whole arc and everything despite being mean and made it to the final 3 (it would be a different story if viewers got to vote tho-))

If you were able to vote to save 3 characters per team. The issue of people assuming someone will be safe would be gone. For instance, in tpot 13, on DPYA, I voted gaty to be safe, but if I could gote 3 characters, I would vote Gaty, Fanny, and Black Hole.
If I'm gonna be honest, they should've done the way Inanimate Insanity 11 did where the first few characters in both teams are picked to be safe before the bottom two.
Tho, tbh. I think this is more of a TPOT problem than a BFDIA problem.
I think BFDI should move towards an electoral college system, where audience members vote a regional representative who's better qualifed to vote who should be eliminated or stay, and then all the electors should meet to decide.

I feel like that it should be vote to eliminate. Since vote to save. you have so many favourites on the same team that you dont want gone but you have to choose your ABSOLUTE favourite. With vote to save, you may like a character but you vote someone you like more. For example like balloony in post split where if it was vote to eliminate, balloony would've survived most likely. I feel like that vote to eliminate is the better option.

I think that the writers purposefully put ruby and book UFE just to get ruby out, seeing as most BFDIA predictions had her winning BFDIA and seeing one of the most liked contestants get eliminated is a chance to shake up the entire season, most likely to not make the season too predictable, like the TPOT 9 situation, coiny getting out sucks but if another contestant like gaty or donut had got out most likely coiny would have won or would've placed 10th-1st in TPOT, overshadowing characters like donut's leader situation with GB.
As a huge Ruby fan, her elimination was seen from miles away, and honestly she deserved it.
But hey, at least she wasn't that bad ever again in BFB.

The problem with viewer voting is that, because the audience gets to decide where and how the story goes, this can derail a LOT of planned story arcs. With the only solutions to that are to drag the contestants from being up for elimination a bit longer or write a character to be as appealing as possible to get them to continue. When all character development planned can be gone in an instant, it's clear the writers need to force the tide of the story.
To me, the better solution would NOT to force story arcs for characters in a way that requires the characters to be present for longer than viewers want. Arcs can end short and simple while still being satisfying. In hindsight, BFDI should've stayed vote to eliminate. Predictability isn't bad. It's the execution that matters more.
Hence why we got BFB Alt, which seems to try and rectify the problems fans had with BFB Post-Split with a roster that makes more sense as seen in the pilot.
Or BFB But Loser Never Shows Up continued by Blazer 500, who manages to make me care about the characters with a longer episode time to develop characters naturally rather than forcing arcs to drag out. Trust me, BFBBLNSU manages to make the viewers care for Bracelety, Eggy, and Foldy.

Imo they should use a modified bfdia elimination method where you can vote you you want to save and who you want to get out. Then take the total votes to eliminate and subtract them from the votes to save
the one problem i waited the entier video for didint show up. NON OBJECTS. veiwers dont care but look at every bfb pre split elimanation that had a non object on the team. they were allways in the bottom 3. beep 1st elimanation Roboty bottom 3 and David bottom 2. Death PACT had Black Hole wich is not bottom 3 but bottom 4. Beep again with David and Roboty bottom 2. A Better Name Then That. Robot Flower was botttom 3. FREE FOOD had Yellow Face Bottom 3. I think both the issues with vote to save and eliminate are really more issues with first past the post voting. Ranked choice voting would be better but try explaining that to an audience of small children

So it seems like the problem with the voting is that people are basing their votes with ideas of who others will vote.
(ex. "Circle, Square, and Triangle are ufe. Circle is my favorite so I obviously won't vote for them. I really want Triangle out because such and such, but Triangle has a pretty big fanbase meaning most of the votes will be for Circle and Square. That means that if I vote Triangle, it would be useless. Therefore, I need to vote for Square even though I like them. This will give Circle more of a chance to stay safe.")
A way to fix this would be to have ranked voting where viewers rank each character in order of who they want to stay (if vote to save) or who they want to eliminate (if vote to eliminate).
Example of how this would work: "looking at everyone's top votes, it seems that no single character has over 50% of the total votes. Since character n has the least percentage of people voting for them as their first choice, we can look at those people's second choices. We'll keep doing this until one character has over 50% of the votes. (There are plenty of videos explaining this far better than me.)
This way, people don't have to worry about if their opinion matches with others.
The only problems with this that I can think of at the moment is 1. Some people may not want to put in the time to rank all x number of characters. And 2. JnJ would have a bit more work to do, but considering that Cary is a nerd and the coding to automatically do it is pretty simple, they likely wouldn't mind.
Hopefully this made sense and apologies again for the longness.
