    Have you played Avalon, or even Quest yet?

      In my group sadly it turns out to be really difficult to gather more than five people at the same time to play a game together.

      @@Overlordsen Maybe try Coup? It's also a social deduction game from the same designer that plays best with five people, up to six. It also has an expansion pack where you can increase the player count up to eight, in case you do end up finding more people.

      Coup is probably a good one to start. Then there are a few others that has other elements, like Saboteour

    Quest is actually very new player friendly. Just play the suggested base characters first without the Blind Hunter. It's actually harder to teach Avalon or even The Resistance because no one gets the voting mechanic.

    I've heard that the rules are not so balanced.. Does Luke recommend playing with original rules or with directors cut rules? And where is the difference if I may ask?

    • @lukewinter7088
      @lukewinter7088 Рік тому +3

      The main difference is that, in the Director's Cut, there are always equal or MORE players on the evil team than the good team. This is balanced by tweaking a few of the other rules, such as the player count for each mission. For players familiar with Avalon (i.e. good always outnumber evil) I would suggest they start with the DC because it gives a new and unique experience. For players unfamiliar with Avalon... go and play Avalon.

    Thanks for the game chat, i love the resistance/avalon, i would say it's one of favorite games of all time. my family really enjoys playing avalon as well, even though they likely only get about 85% of the game/strategy and we often have some new player who is missing some of the nuances of the game. I backed the KS edition and think the production value is great, but I found the game rules to be convoluted. Even as a 'seasoned' gamer and game explainer i find avalon to be a hard teach and as noted in your video Quest is even more convoluted since it has exceptions that need to be tracked. I came to this video with hopes of a rules review, and i appreciate the brief walk through. i'm very interested to try this now though after watching your video, the non voting aspect seems like a good way to streamline the game.

      Hi James, thank you for coming over! Good that your family enjoy it. Yeah depending on the group you may have different strategy, seasoned gamers even in different group may have different strategy. Hopefully you get to try Quest, after you are used to Avalon it might be a fresh way to play the game that you love.

    So our group has played an absurd amount of Avalon, and we were really looking forward to this game. However we are really struggling to find a good balance between good and bad. We have the Avalon Big Box Edition so presumably we have every role/feature available to Quest. Do you have any recommendations for a balanced match? Regular or Director's Cut, any player count.
    We've played 4, 5, 6, and 7 players. What we have found is that without the Blind Hunter, it's too easy for the good guys to identify the bad guys. And with the Blind Hunter, it's too easy to identify 2 good roles to confidently snipe. We're seasoned deception players so we know how to not be overly obvious with our roles, but roles like characters like Youth and Troublemaker make it really hard to maintain role ambiguity amongst the good guys. Everyone (you included) says Blind Hunter is almost mandatory, but we have played a ton of recommended variations and it basically always leans in favor of the bad guys for us.

    • @Bellany1337
      @Bellany1337 2 місяці тому

      I actually disagree that the Blind Hunter is a mandatory inclusion, especially in games with a Trouble Maker. As you said, it's too easy to identify at least 2 good characters as it is (especially at higher player counts), and even in the worst case scenario, a shot in the dark on one that you're 50/50 on can still create rug-pull wins. However, if the Trouble Maker is ever investigated, the Blind Hunter will know his identity guaranteed, as villains know each other, and there would be no logical reason for a good guy to accuse another good guy of being a villain, unless the investigated player was the Trouble Maker.
      Ultimately I think Quest's biggest downfall is that it tries to add too many new parts to an already-working machine.

    I’ve played thousands of Avalon and it gets monotonous. Do you think any Quest character can be included in the regular Avalon so that it gets more spicy?

    • @alixx_legenddark_xx2819
      @alixx_legenddark_xx2819 Місяць тому

      Yes! Well, some. The trouble maker can be included, but only when the “lady of the lake” is used. Cleric can be used though instead of Merlin. The duke is only used if you’re playing with good’s last chance instead of assassinations. Youth canNOT be used at all. The lunatic can be used for sure. Blind hunter is the replacement for assassin. Morgan le Faye can be used if you like how she looks. Otherwise not. Bragger, yes. You get the point. If it uses the magic token, no. If it needs the amulets, yes. But if it is used in goods last chance, NO!
