Fascinating work Jules. Sounds like the humpbacks have quite a range.

I would suggest setting up a Sound Sleuth recording buoy overnight. Many thanks and good luck! ;-)

@@NaturePattern That would be great. I need to put some thought and engineering into it. We are shooting for an 8 channel immersive array. Needs to be at least 100ft down to minimize surface noise.

What an INCREDIBLE video, thank you so much for sharing this! I like your microphone building videos, but this one is another level!

Awesome vid. Looking forward to seeing what you've updated or are planning on updating about your hydrophones. Could you also share what vendor you switched to? I still want to build one myself but the shipping costs of the piezo cilinders to europe with the last vendor were quite high.

I am getting them from a supplier in China. I am working on a bulk order that JLI will stock. www.piezoelements.com/ reach out to them and they shoudl do small quantity. Hold off untill I validate my new board. I am putting protection diodes and a small series resistor on the OpAmp input pin that connects to the Piezo. If those are tapped (or dropped from a few inches while assembling) they put out a spike that can damage the input on the OpAmp.
