The more I watch these H5 videos the more I want to build one. Maybe soon. Awesome airplane.

Very well done Video showing all of the Performance envelopes of the H5! I love how this aircraft flies and this video really impressed me with how coordinated the turns were along with the stall being extremely benign! Thank you for sharing this great H5 video! You are making me want one!

The engine is a 4 cylinder 2400 cc 85 hp Hummel engine with a Prince E-tip prop

Thanks Steve for the info - I did not know about the H5 to now.

Wonderful Video ! This is what a pilot wants to see when he is trying to research an airplane type on UA-cam. Very well flown too ! Gives me some real insight into the flight charactoristics of the Hummel and the 1/2 VW too. I like what I see of the airplane. The low rpm shaking of the1/2 vw.. not at all. This is a light weight airframe that can't like powerful low frequencyvibration hammering it every time you cut back power at the Key Point for landing... or during taxi. Those of us who spent lots of time riding aircooled BMW's find this appalling. But not the hummel's fault.

Nobody YouKnow I don’t think it is a half VW... most use the full VW engine for the H5. That being said, I have seen them built with a BMW R1100S engine and I think that is an excellent option if you are accustomed to the BMW engines! It also comes out lighter than the VW, will give you better cruise speed on less fuel (130mph at 3gph) etc!

Now I know what the view will look like when I'm flying my own someday! (God willing, of course.)

I agree the HB is a great bag for the buck, but this is a H5. A total different aircraft. Both by Hummel. As for the HKS 60hp, i think it could work in either the HB or the H5, but the difference in weight of the engines will need to be dealt with, also the mounting is different. The old saying is , you change one thing you will need to change ten.

Nice landing! This is not a criticism, but I noticed a lot of "fluxuation" on you altimerter and airspeed pointer; I don't think this is panel vibration. Can't be pitot pressure (affecting both), might be the position of the static vents (which are getting varying static pressure inputs which would affect both indicators). Might try just venting the static to the cockpit area, and see if they settle down. If so, static port position is the culprit. Nice Video, thanks, N-6395T

Thanks very much for the fly ! Always thought the HB was the best bang for the buck out there ! So you run a 4C 85hp engine ? Did you need to enhance the mount at all ? I think an HKS 60HP would work well in the air frame. Whats your thoughts ? thanks in advance

Does the plane look like it is "hunting"? Like it doesn't have enough vertical fin to prevent the yawing.

This aircraft has 21 gallons onboard for around 4.5 hours of flight.

I stand corrected.. this is a modified 4cyl vw. So is the cam or the carbuetion the root of the poor low rpm running ?

Nobody YouKnow The idle stop may be set too low. When this was taken the prop was a big 54x48 Prince prop p-tip. I have the same config on mine. A smaller prop has been tested and currently available. It’s more of a camera mount shimmy then anything else.

Nobody YouKnow And this was a taildragger that had a hard rubber wheel that has been replaced with a better runway noise vibration absorption one. Mines a trigear so it’s pretty quiet to start with.

This aircraft H5 is a EAB or experimental amateur built and requires a sport pilot or higher license . The Hummel Ultracruiser is a 103 legal ultralight aircraft and no license is required. for more info goto Flyhummel.com

Has anyone put a turbine engine in a Hummel yet

    • @Cowboy.underwater

You would need to re design the wings/airfoil for that.
      The VNE is only 150.
