What does the word Guru mean - Gu: ignorance, Ru: to destroy
That personality who destroys the ignorance within us and brings us to the light of knowledge.
Since eternity we have been separated from God. It is not a physical separation. The consciousness has become unhinged. This material energy Maya has created an illusion. Maya means "that which is not". We have our eternal relationship with God but under this illusion that we are separate from him. Ignorance is making us think that we will be subject to death whereas the truth is that we are eternal.
We are paranoid and fearful of death while the soul does not have any death. It merely changes bodies like we change clothes everyday. This ignorance within us is separating us from God. That ignorance needs to be eradicated.

Guru is the one who opens your inner eyes and bless you to become suitable for God’s grace.
A Guru is one who bestows true knowledge and removes our ignorance. However, unless we are truly detached from the material or worldly desires, we will not be able to apply the knowledge in our daily life. When we become detached from the world, then the hunger for God will develop and that’s when our intellect will become ready to surrender to a Guru. Thank you, Swamiji!

Swamiji, very beautiful video clip about a Guru in life. For Liberation first complete detachment then using discriminative intellect contemplation on Supreme Reality. Without Guru doubts cannot be cleared also Guru uplifts the seeker towards Goal.
Until we get God realized, we have defective intellect. We are not all knowing. We have all negative qualities anger greed pride etc. We need help of a guru.
