The fact you treated these just as you were about to sell them, and I’m sure your bees were pretty “clean” without this treatment says a lot about your character 🙌thanks for the video
I agree! Everyone should be this way! Bob cares about the way poeple veiw his outfit! He's got a reputation to uphold! We need more poeple like Bob in this world!
We keep learning more good stuff on your channel, Thank You! Really like those Oxalic Acid Vaporizers. Something for us to think about as opposed to us using a car battery to lug around! Keep the fun and informative videos coming our way!
We have completed our OAV two weeks ago in western Massachusetts. Using similar techniques and equipment. Thank you for sharing this information. Merry Christmas to you and your crew!
Great info Bob, I have watched all your videos, if I am ever in Georgia, I will be visiting your store. Thanks for all the work you do to make these video's
As I having Sunday morning coffee with the Appalachian crew I had to chuckle. Watching the waltzing from hive to hive in the vapor , no mites on the help..
The simplest way I found to clean the nozzles on my vaporizers is to point the nozzle toward the ground ,then I use my small butane torch (my smoker lighter) to heat the nozzle...the OA slides out like a slug in seconds...no fuss no muss. And on occasion a small cheap SS wire brush around the inside does the rest.
It’s all I use I faithfully hit them every week as soon as I take my honey mid August and then I hit them every 5 days until mid of December and I have had great luck so fair in the years I have done it and bees don’t miss a beat
Those units are certainly quick. The larger units recovered quicker, but we also didn’t have the silicon up top the compact so that would make a difference
@@bobbinnie9872 I do prefer the bigger ones, as they seem to be easier on the battaries and they fit better on the entrances that we have. The compact is great going into the tighter spots but it seemed alot less sturdy in the hives, and I found they didnt handle the 12amp batteries very well. Running all three this year worked really well and kept me moving however I prefer to run them so I keep the elements always heating (transferring the vaporizers to another hive as it reaches 220 degrees) to try keep things efficient. With the compact it doesnt tell you its temerature so it took a bit of adapting on my part😅 I have a tendency to overthink and build mental systems on how I think things should go...lol
@@carriemartindale-wetherup5243 I wonder if adding a longer version of the silicon insulator like Sir Bob has on his units - completely covering the heating element would give the extra insulation needed to make the compact unit more efficient in the colder temps? Hello Bob. I finished my first round of AO yesterday. I’m gonna do another treatment in a couple of weeks. I also think some of the colonies have a little bit of brood. Weather permitting I’ll see y’all in 32 days.
Used mine today. Dec. 1st. Temperature was 4c in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. I have dewalt tools so use AH 5, 18 volt batteries. It took me 3 batteries to do 39 hives. I thought the slow blinking was the unit reheating to treatment temperature.
If they’re clustered together at this time of year and in this weather/temperature, do you think the OAV penetrates the cluster for full efficacy. You answered my question as I was typing it! LOL THANKS again for great videos and info.
What I intended to do is to extend the brass fitting almost 4 inches. I noticed that the vapor is coming out from the inside and extending the fitting makes sense to me. Let me know if you consider this being a good idea. Have a blessed day Bob. God bless your team and because we approach the holidays I will say Happy Holidays to everyone.
An extended tube may help. It has pipe threads on the end and perhaps a longer one could be found. As far as vapors coming out, the box is very full when done with it coming out of all cracks if there are any. When we have rags installed most of it stays in.
I extended mine about two inches and I found that I had more issues with clogs. I don’t know if it cooled down too much coming out or what but it definitely caused issues.
@ I appreciate your help Andrew. I’m going to think about it before I will change anything. I don’t like the cloud of OA. As you see watching BB s video is noticeably a lot of vapor. Reducing the dosage is something I consider doing in my apiary. Thank you.
Good morning mr bob Binnie at what temperature does the machine work. I'm from Greece and for the last 3 years I've only been using sublimation as a treatmen.
@@bobbinnie9872 Bob I got one more question to your knowledge does acid ever go bad? I had some left over from last year and it did not seem to work as well as fresh acid
Hi Bob, Could you confirm if you are using 99.7 % as pure oxalic acid or 99.7 purity as oxalic dihydrate? The first bags you showed were just labeled oxalic acid and the last bag showed oxalic acid dihydrate. My understanding is that the literature which suggests using 4 grams is based on using 4 grams as the dihydrate ( wood bleach) form which is 30 % greater in Molecular weight than oxalic acid ( less concentrated because it has two stable water molecules attached but still pure) . So 4 gm dose of pure oxalic acid would be 5.2 gms dose of oxalic acid dihydrate . Thanks for your videos. Love watching every Sunday.
Given the size of your operation, I understand the need to buy OA in bulk. Those of us small scale beekeepers have been told for years only certain EPA approved suppliers are permitted to sell OA for mite treatment. Is your supplier one of those companies? If so, do they a minimum order requirement?
2 or 4 grams blowing away in the wind makes no difference. Follow up with counts or sticky boards, and the results will speak for itself. My testing shows the entrance needs to be left closed for 10 minutes. I have to do it efficiently the first time. I keep 500 colonies by myself, meaning I can't go back 3 more times to get it right. That same size bag made in China is $127 canadian with Trudeau's economy.
Hi Bob, I have a question that may seem strange. Has anyone who wax dips their boxes attempted to mix OA with the solution so the boxes are 'OA dipped' as well? Would this work as an extended release? Thank you.
They're a lot easier to use without the extension cords our other units need. It's especially helpful in yards with a lot of obstacles for cords to catch on.
@bobbinnie9872 I get the obstacles part for sure. We put inverters in every truck and just run the cords out to the furthest hive and work back towards the truck. But I have the luxury of being more selective about the bee yards that I take giving me the ability to place hives on level ground in rows so the trucks can drive between them.
Is that the dihydrate OA or no? Theres 2 types of the stuff and im scared to go to a chemical company bc im worried ill ask for/get the wrong type of stuff lol. I eorry they will be like "ahhh he dunno the difference so who cares" but i will care and so will my bees lol

It works well when the temperature ranges between 40°f and 50°f. 45° is best.
machine ?
Heeey bob always pleasure to watch your videos. Can you provide the link for the vaporizer. Thank you
Im confused. 17 degrees and you have brood. Here in California lowest we get is 32 and not even at 40 we get brood. What’s your secret?
It's brood from the previous week or two. We just had some unseasonably warm weather with a little pollen coming in.
I like the bend idea how did you bend it?
We clamped it in a vise and used the box end of a wrench to bend it.
Thanks for the information..

We have followed up and although the effect is diminished some it still helps a lot. Of course future treatments will have the rags installed.
Hi Bob, I have a question that may seem strange. Has anyone who wax dips their boxes attempted to mix OA with the solution so the boxes are 'OA dipped' as well? Would this work as an extended release? Thank you.
Interesting question. I've not heard of anyone trying this.
I noticed they weren't wearing any gloves. Any concern for irritation to skin from the OA vapor?
Good morning Bob,are you gonna use varroxsan in the future?
We will continue to make our own version.
When that OA gets sprayed on a frame, the bees never build on that frame again and found all the product seems to build on them
I have vaporized a box that had 4 drawn frames and 6 foundation frames and they draw it out just fine.
If that was true, OA would never be used Where did you find this information?
What is the purpose of the yellow insulators? Thanks
We haven't had problems so far but when they are doing it for an extended period nitrile gloves are worn.
If you are running a generator to charge batteries between yards, what is the purpose of spending so much for batteries and cordless units?
They're a lot easier to use without the extension cords our other units need. It's especially helpful in yards with a lot of obstacles for cords to catch on.
