- I want to be clear about something first and foremost. Please notice the many standing building in decent shape in this video. The Florida Keys are amazingly resilient and we will get thru this just fine. The bounce back is always stronger than the set back. There will be a lot of love poured into this little chain of islands over the foreseeable future. If you want to help, then plan a trip here to the Keys in the next year. Spend some cash, have some drinks, enjoy the water, and be kind to the locals. More news to come. Stay tuned.

Thank you for recording so still that I was able to view everything and not get motion sick as some people move the camera around so much. I don't even know where to start to clean up. It was nice to see that power was beginning to be turned on.
So good to know Key West is okay. Was delighted to know the Hemmingway house and everyone there including all 54 cats rode out the storm safely.
christy peck - i cried, sobbed, for all the animals as Irma passed over and i live in michigan. So, so very happy to hear this.
Those cats were in the most secure structure on the island. 18" thick stone 16-feet above sea-level. There's a reason that house has been there for 150 years!
Thank you so much for posting. Cannot believe my eyes..heartbroken. .prayers.
Wow. As a Florida resident for 22 years our escape or getaways are always to the Keys. I can't believe the devastation that took place. My heart is so saddened by the sights I've just seen. It's gonna be a long time before there is normalcy there again. Thank you for the update. Maybe you can do these periodically so we can see the progress as the months go by. Tfs
You can count on it Ruthie. Absolutely. Please stay tuned. We will rebuild.
We love the keys and have been there lots of times. We will begin planning a visit for the spring. God bless the Keys residents.
Thank you for sharing, many people are unaware of what a storm like this is capable of doing and many times they do not see this problem. I had to share this video on my FB page in hopes of receiving HELP in anyway possible and also raising awareness .
Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you for making this video! Well done.
Myself and Family will be coming to the Keys next July 2018, from the UK on holiday and look forward to supporting your recovery
Thank you for showing marathon and below. We were down there and we're chased out by Irma.
Thank you for the video! I was anxious to see DRC because my son was on the stay behind crew. Your images are the first that I found! Appreciate the upload and work!
Thanks for the video. I live near KC MO and the Keys are one of my favorite places to visit. This breaks my heart.
Devastating....Thanks for posting. I Love the keys, so sad.
Went to Big Pine today. God Bless all of you. Especially those handing out water
Amazing force of nature. Good documentation for the future. Well done.
I'm so sad! I live in Clearwater and we were very lucky with minimal damage. My heart goes out to the keys!
When I lived in Clearwater in the early 90's we were more lucky that Andrew didn't hit us. Were you in Clearwater during that time?
Vicki Jones I'm in Clearwater too. I stayed up all night long during the storm. The worst was between 2 and 3 am. We lost power till Thursday morning. Anything over Cat 2 next time I won't be staying. It was a long night and quite nerve wracking
Thank you for posting this. I'd been looking for any footage of what is happening down there (we're in Boca). So sad to see the damage to so many places we've gone to.
Best footage I've seen from Irma, after the storm. Still hard to believe what that monster of a storm did to this area. This is complete annihilation. Thanks for the upload and firsthand up close look!
We used to live on Cudjo at MM21 down dross st. That was about the end of your video. I recognized many of the buildings!
Thanks for show us...
Thanks for the video. I lived on Cudjoe for several years and I can't believe the destruction that Irma caused. I would never ride out a storm in the Keys after this.
It is interesting to see that the railroad bridges built by the Florida East Coast Railroad in the early 1900's are still standing after so many years of storms. Hope everyone around you is ok.
I think they built stuff better then. Also were clairvoyant, realizing man made global warming was going to get nasty a century later. Regardless best wishes to all those in my beloved Keys. I also got spanked in Naples but have nothing to complain about.
I love the Island Fish Co restaurant as well! Thankfully they are back up and running and food is still amazing
Absolutely broken hearted. Such a beautiful place. I just visited there for the first time last year. Now, who knows when I'll go back. God Bless everyone. I guess $$ is the only way one can help and not get in the way so I'll be sending relief money. Take care all.
Good video, a historical record of what happened to such an attractive area.
Considering the magnitude of this storm and damage it caused I think the Keys has bounced back considerably faster having fewer resources than cities that took a long time to recover from Katrina, Andrew and Ike. We are Keys Strong USA. Thanks for posting vid.
nicely done video. the real deal. thanks.
It's crazy I have the exact same footage almost like I was watching my own!!! Ty for posting!!
THANK YOU 4 THIS IT'S HARD TO SEE MUCH WITH THE NEWS THEY SHOW U 1 SPOT SO THIS REALLY SAYS IT ALL. CRAZY WORLD WE LIVE WHO THE F PUTS A THUMBS DOWN I MEAN IT'S YOU DRIVING & SHOWING FOLKS THE AREA WHAT A WORLD INDEED WE HAVE WROUGHT
Its devastating. I have a Son there. Praying goes out to you all.
Wow. Incredibly powerful video.
I passed those sheds last night. Spooky. Made it home after curfew thank God no trouble
Good job.
The boats on sidewalks and on streets and in yards. So many RVs every where
even though it is all messy it still looks beautiful to me :)
kimberawification13 - YEP, that's why they call it paradise. :-)
Thank u for this video
It's astonishing to see how far down the keys you really have to go before you find any damages from storm surges. But the areas that were damaged by just the wind also look terrible. :'(
Thanks for recording, us northerners don't realize the devastation.
i was riding the storm out on my boat in ramrod key. in the canal at 943 indies rd. both my boats survived with minor damage. they are clearly visible on google maps satellite picture. the trick: about 1000 feet of anchor lines in all direction. the worst thing where the tornados right before we went into the eye. actually, the worst thing where the fucking human scum looting within hours after the storm. The best thing: FM 104.1. Those guys did a heroic job running their station and killing false rumors. They saved at least 6 people who were trapped at the end of indies rd. the second best thing: sheriff Rick Ramsey and his deputies.Thank you guys for all you did in the week after the storm.
Der Kyffhäuser will take
Der Kyffhäuser I'm so happy you and your boats are ok. So many people stated the Key's residents were idiots for not leaving. I explained as a former resident myself that this is a tough decision to evacuate. Evacuating the Keys isn't like evacuating Florida's barrier islands or low lying areas. Many factors come into play
👍 well done
Thanks
We were at Key deer blvd I think in bigpine. Only a few days behind you
I was there couple months ago everything pristine, clear, neaty, not now
I can't believe the buildings on Pigeon Key survived.
" aww fuck i love this resturaunt " 😂😂
Amazing video. I watched, spellbound. Thank you for posting. Man, this hurts!.
My only regret is that there wasn't a shot of Fisherman''s Hospital. I wonder how much damage was done there. DO you know?
I do not know actually. I'll take a trip up to Marathon from Key West soon tho. Updates to come. Stay tuned.
Wow, Mother Nature can be so beautiful, but she can be very ugly too. I'm so sad for people that have lost homes and such. The Florida Keys is such a beautiful place. Hope I can visit in the future.
Thanks. My sis had a House boat in key West....media hasn't been reporting..on this or Houston.
Go figure..
I think she needs to stay in Pittsburgh for a while at least until.they get power and clean up debris. At least key West isn't under water!
I love that restraunt too!!!
We up north are not getting a chance to see the mass amount of damage down there, thanks for filming, what camera are you using as appears very stable and good quality? We have family and friends all through out FL and thankfully all are OK, some still waiting for power!
Yes I was shooting this on a GH5 and a stabilized 14-140. Thanks for the message. Hope you're staying safe.
Looks like a lot of buildings that are concrete or up on legs with metal roofing held-up better? The Turtle Hospital looks pretty good?
Correct on both counts, yes sir.
Thank god the turtle hospital survived, that's a great place
2:11 turtle rescue seems to hold up well- whats up with theater of the sea islamorada?
They looked ok from the road but I didn't go inside.
Any one notice the thatched roof seem to be able to take a beating. Why?
allen dabold cuz its fake lol
My moms house is right behind the yellow bait and tackle place on cudjoe.
Welcome to the future!
Only beginning
This was the 1st hurricane to EVER hit the Keys....LMFAO. Always have, always will.
Yep! Repeated Cat. 4s and 5s are so common in Florida. O Wait. Its those damned Chinese!
Such a self-righteous tool.
Yes but, it looks like civilization doesnt. Google Guy McPherson on UA-cam.
Clean up ! Clean up ! Everybody clean up !
What became of all the deer on the keys?
Some of them are still around. I saw pics of people feeding them, which illegal yes, but glad to see they're still around. I'll be interested in seeing the official count once things settle.
Yes in Florida Irma was a light breeze compared to Andrew and Andrew was a breeze compared to that killer category 6 that hit in 1935.
Wow I feel so sad
Omgosh, what happened?? Is everyone okay?
Good question. There was a hurricane. Also, no. Lots of people died. It's horrific. Good question.
#GodBlessKeyWest
I just rewatched this video, you guys were there the day they opened the keys weren't you
About 5 days before that actually yes
Please let me know what kind of tool did you use to record that video, thank you.
Sure. I was shooting on a Panasonic GH4 with a 14-140 stabilized lens. When you put the camera in 96fps mode, you can slow it down nice and smooth when you go to edit the video and you get this. The audio was recorded separately which is why it doesn't always match the visual. Good question my friend. Hope you fared well thru the storm.
Thank you.
of all the places I can think of the keys not having under ground powerlines is crazy
Agreed
Underground power lines are much harder to repair. The type of soil and ground water in the keys would make the process very difficult.
Lot of salvages, ĵunks, damaged boats for sale?
Not sure. My guess would be yes but I don't know where to find the owners of stuff.
Miami didnt get hit as bad 2 months after it hit i went it was so fun it was like nothing hit the beaches where clear and everything
I noticed all the deer-signs. Do you think, any deers have survived this hurricane?
They did. I personally gave some of them water while I was helping at the shelter.
Sad to think that some day soon this beautiful place will be totally under water as ocean levels rise.
Itsnotsobad. More tingly than hot
overseas bar still there.
So is all that stuff up and mostly back up and running so I can bring my tourist money in June this year? Im fat so I need to eat, Ive got a fishing pole, Scuba gear and a woman who wants to spend money so we figured wed bring the tourist dollars there.
Lol yes come on down and party friend
What did you do when you reached those downed power lines?
We drove over them
I wonder how Indian Key is?
The scene at 7:15 is in my hurricane irma tribute
honestly, we hear about puerto rico and houston but the media is yet again not showing all of the story.
That really sucks the devestation.
It will be a long time to ever get back to normal
Curfew after Dawn is a band name.
Zero Tolerance makes adult films Lawsuit now FL road dept.
Well, its a big mess to clean up but I didn't see many if any building ripped apart. I live on the coast and been through lots of hurricanes. I noticed the media always zooms in on whatever they can find that is damaged, and ignore things that aren't. Those houses held up well and that is what matters. The rest is flood on lower buildings, trash everywhere and power out. Too cheap to put it underground and yes they can do that there. But not as bad as some say it is, or believe me it could be much worse. Puerto Rico is worse but those buildings weren't built correctly and much older probably. Power being off is usually one of worse parts after the storms.
Did the bat tower make it?
Nope. Completely gone.
After I saw Hurricane Carol in, I believe 1954, I promised myself that I would never live near the water. It is just too powerful.
good thing I live in Alaska
Easy clean up
WELL IF YOU WANT TO WORK > CAME ON DOWN > WE NEED YOUR HELP !!!
Not too bad. trailers boats and trees. Most well built structures made it ok .
Even if I had to money to purchase a home in the Keys, I would have to think twice.
90% of homes survived and homes can be built to withstand hurricanes nowadays. Just thought you should know. Love you xoxoxo
huff, terrible, i love the keys. (
Rebuild with DOME HOMES !!! Spread the word.................... The best way.
Not one Chikee Hut was damaged.
The US has both the knowledge and the money to be proactive facing the climate change, rising sea, flooding and bigger hurricanes etc. But still Little is done in being proactive. Its just crazy from a European view,
Kevin Clements scientists are not in agreement about man's effect on climate. Think for yourself, do some unbiased research, and stop being a parrot of things you don't understand. President Trump didn't kill climate change science. He got us out of the Paris Accord which would have cost us billions of dollars and done almost nothing for us or the rest of the world. That was a good thing.
Victoria Love. Agree that you can’t blame all the lack of preparations for climate change on Trump (who has only been in office for a short time), specially looking at the outdated flood planing forHouston. But what we do know is that coastal cities has a higher sea rise due to a sinking water table and the urbanization on flood plains which causes inundating, both from more intense rain and rising seas. And that is man made.
Climate change is a fact wether you believe it’s a natural phenomena or caused by the greenhouse effect and that can’t be ignored. What is incomprehensible from an outside perspective is that the US has both the means and scientific knowledge to work proactively and yet so little is done.
I survived Irma
People lost power for a week or so. The people with solar panels are not allowed to use them because Florida laws strictly regulates them and the utilities can dictate when and how you use it.
Horrible mess.. but still beautiful.
Please help PR
I see a lot of work ahead. But this could have been twice as bad as it was.
what a mess.. the keys will bounce back..
of course the liquor store is unharmed
There is no perfect place to live in this planet.
Thank you for that. I've been trying to say that to everyone who's hating on Florida right now.
Where is the media? There not doing there lobs, are they! They were all over Katrina!
Kevin Clements and sending unpresidented aid. Even waived the Jones act so more ships could get food and supplies to Puerto Rico faster. 10,000 pounds of food is sitting at the docks there now because the corrupt local officials, including the mayor of San Juan, can't get their act together. The governor of PR has been praising President Trump so stop listening to the MSM and start thinking for yourself. Wouldn't hurt to learn a little respect either. Always bet on orange.
Human beings are like ants... Mother nature kicks our nests and we scatter and run for safety but once she's gone we just start picking up the grains of sands and rebuild. It's what we've always done...no matter how much damage is done... we're survivors that way.
Why do meteorologists keep calling hurricanes normal names like Irma? Why don’t they call it The Deathspinner or some scary shit like that? Because if they were to call it something like that then im sure EVERYONE would evacuate.
Lol this is my favorite comment on this video
See EVEN THE AUTHOR OF THE VIDEO AGREE’S!!
Ambulance every where
Looks pretty bad, but it was no Cat. 4 or 5.
