There was also the theory that caliente was including the word alien to reference their alien ancestor Tbh caliente isnt used in spanish to descrive someone as hot so i think they were just playing with names haha i mean caliente is normally used only for items or things

One of the things about the Caliente sisters that I loved in the sims 2 was that their personalities were exactly opposite to each other's. This needs to be mentioned, the fact that they took NINE years to get it at least closer to the Sims 2 counterpart is pathetic. Even worse it is not even done well. Also has it been a year they did the Goth family update? So we waited for a whole YEAR for an update of a family 4 Sims? Wow we are expecting the update to be done by 2050 for all the households.
I think they could have easy renamed Katrina/Nighat to a different Arabic name, since it seems like part of the name (like Ophelia Nigmos) was being detected as a slur. It would have been a bit basic/stereotypical because of popular it is, I guess, but even Layla - which means "night," but can also mean colloquially "beautiful" due to its heavy use in medieval Arabic poetry - would have also been appropriate for the Caliente sister's mom. She is the mother of two beautiful daughters, after all! Plus her 1st husband was half alien, so it's kind of... night/stellar themed, I guess. Hala can mean halo (of the moon), which could also be cute too. Nadia, Khadijah, Safiyyah, Yasmin, and Zahra are also other Arabic names that I think are SO pretty and would all be fitting for Katrina/Nighat rename and not interfere with the gallery's filter - not like that stops Miss Hell (vampire townie), though...
I don't understand why they are all living together. Don had his own place. It seems to me that EA knows that TS2 is better than TS4 and they're trying to get a piece of 2 into 4 to make the game better but it doesn't work.

Nina was actually kinda mean in The Sims 2 - she only had 4/10 nice points and 2/10 playful points, so her aspiration change in Sims 4 makes somewhat sense to me.
Most of the critic was spot on! But I gotta disagree on the Caliente sisters personality. I think EA got their personalities almost perfect, except for Dina being Business Savy. Both the sisters are lazy, they both have no interests in work even though Nina is physically active (In more ways than one...). Nina is actually the meaner sister, she's shyer but much more grouchy, she will start random fights in public all the time, So Hot-headed fits her perfectly.
Kinda same, I feel Hot-Headed fits her well but not in an evil way, I think Nina is just easy to annoy but she's not a bad person, she's grouchy but not that much. I would've switched Nina and Don's aspirations, Villainous Valentine fits Don better than Nina
It kinda irks me that E.A. uses "The sims 4 is an Alternate Universe" to get away with not bothering to do their research. I have no clue why they decided to name Dina and Nina mom Katrina. What's even worse is that they brought back the mom to have a messy storyline with Don, only for the messy storyline to not even be in game. I decided to update the game myself; CAS and lore included to me no more than 2 hours. E.A. really is content on doing the bare minimum. The fact that it took almost a year to update a household of 4 sims is concerning.
Fun fact: the Sims 4 gallery bans "nig" so you can't have a Sim named nighat on the gallery because "nig" is in the name... that aside I dislike the refresh but for the total opposite reason to you. See I like Sims 4 being an AU because it means that all the stuff I hate about 4 doesn't effect the main Sims timeline. So this refresh annoys me because it screams "identity crisis" as EA tried to make these Sims more like how they are in main timeline and failed miserably imo. I think instead they really should've doubled down on the whole AU concept. Maybe Katrina is a step mom that their dad married before he died (in Sims 2 their parents died when they were young so it's very possible), leading to the twins having super different personalities and goals while their step mom is chasing after young gym bros. It fits the theme of Sims 4 being close to main timeline bit having some details off (like Bella not disappearing).

In 2017/8 (not sure which year) I tried to make some Strangtown Sims and at the time I noticed Nigmos wasn't allowed so I played around with the name and found nig was considered a bad word. Glad to see they did an actual improvement though that hasn't made me give up on Sims 4 any less lol.

I like the changes made to their faces quite a bit, though I think Don looks kind of odd with his droopy eyes and huge square face. It's the outfits on the girls that kill me. I know the base game has basically no good options for anything, but I feel like they could have added something new in that would fit the girls' personalities better. Also, you would think that since the Sims team went in to edit the Sims and update their looks that they also would have finally added relationships to the family as well, but they didn't. The sims all barely know each other and none are romantically interested in each other. This was the laziest "refresh" ever

My one complaint is that their skin looks gray-but that’s more criticizing TS4’s skin tone options for neutral and cool toned skin than anything else. The neutral and cool tones only look good when they’re very pale or very dark-anything in the middle, like the new calientes and goths, looks gray and muddy. Plus I feel like warm toned skin just feels more fitting for the calientes anyways tbh
I like hearing about the different interpretations of the Caliente sisters. I never played the Sims 2, and it barely registered that they were in Barnacle Bay in Sims 3, but recently I've been watching a lot of lore videos, and I think my impression of them draws heavily on ZeeGee Simmer's Sunset Valley Machinima versions, which puts Dina as a serial grifter who marries for money then leaves her husbands, but is getting tired of the grift lifestyle and wants to find a nice guy and settle down. Meanwhile Nina is the brainier of the two and orchestrates the grifts behind the scenes. Nina wants to keep on with the grifting, so is a little upset with Dina when she falls for Michael Bachelor and turns over a new leaf. Most people are in agreement about Dina and her money-grubbing personality, but Nina seems less defined by the lore, and I see a variety of interpretations of her personality. I definitely agree that Dina should not be ambitious - although I think Sims 3 had her LTW as jack of all trades, which seemed really off to me considering the wide range of possible LTWs - like lap of luxury or swimming in cash, and of course gold-digger. I went to Barnacle Bay and "fixed" them and put them in my bin to add to other games.
I ALWAYS give Dina "gold digger" in the sims 3, it's perfect for her. And you're right, there is much more debate about Nina but I just always figured she is the one making sure the household gets everything done haha. Personality points in the sims 2 are more open-ended so it's hard to define exactly who she is.
the gag is that nighat, in the sims 2, was dead. she wasn't even playable. they fully brought her back from the dead JUST to erase her heritage and whitewash her.

Long comment, bear with me😆 First, I loved the video and your makeover! I just did a makeover myself of the Calientes and Don, trying to make them look as close to their original TS2 counterparts. I did however keep Nighat’s hair red because although she’s naturally blonde she appears with red hair in the Caliente family photos. So she probably dyed her hair like e.g. Kaylynn Langerak who’s also genetically blonde☺️ As for these new TS4 version I definitely like them better overall. Like, the original TS4 Dina and Nina looked like teenagers with the way they were dressed and gave me more ”cute and innocent” vibes rather than ”bad b!tch energy”. And don’t get me started on their personalities…they literally switched them, like no, Nina is NOT the lazy twin. I’m not really bothered with Katrina because she doesn’t exist to me anyway and I always replace her with my version of Nighat! As for Don I actually thought he was better before. He was okay if you just gave him a better beard and hair. Although more of a gym fboy, he still resembled Don to me. This new one though…he looks like he’s a middle aged man with 3 kids and drowning in child support… And they’re all so ashy looking :( I would’ve liked to see a more warm, tan skin like they originally have!
So I actually don’t hate their looks at all. I think it’s a big improvement and much closer to the Sims 2 original versions but a little bit updated. What I’m not a fan of is how they decided to assign them traits and aspirations. Just, why 🤦🏻♀️

I agree that Nighat is the rightful Caliente matriarch, but I don’t hate the makeovers as much as you do lol. Dina’s pants aren’t the best but I actually think Nina’s outfit is really cute and I’m glad her face is no longer too small for her head.😂I don’t like Don’s face it’s giving me airhead gym bro more than suave Casanova. Also, I agree that the personalities are wrong. Dina’s laziness is what makes her low key iconic. As for them changing their eye color and giving them dark brows, I actually don’t mind because it brings out features of the Spanish / Arab ancestry and just makes it seem like they dyed their hair to be blonde / red. Overall I definitely think this is better than what we got originally.
Honestly I wish they just picked a lore corrected version from some random simmer and thats it. All the relationships are usually fixed in those, as well as, the families that don’t make sense like a young Bella not being missing and a young Mortimer doesn’t make sense either. Mortimer would likely be dead 25 years after and Bella would be old AND possibly missing depending on what the lore would come up with. Same with Calientes… theyre too young and what the hell is Katrina.

I'm so disappointed that I decided to remake the whole thing again in the sims 3. To add drama, I decided Katrina is the aunt who took in Nina and Dina when Nighat "died" when they were kids. But in my game she didn't really die and Katrina only said that because she didn't want to give the girls back and she essentially tried to kidnap them before the girls found out and ran away back to their mom. So now there's a whole rivalry between Katrina and Nighat, and Katrina has two daughters in their teens named Mina and Lena who she pretends are twins and basically tries to turn into little versions of Nina and Dina.
I appreciate you pointing out not only Nina and Dina’s mon’s name is Nighat, but also that she’s supposed to be genetically blonde. To be fair, in TS2 pictures she has redhair (and her genetically redheaded husband has brown hair in pictures), so presumably both she and Flamenco dyed their hair for some reason.

She said blondes heard them more than any one. I think the dumb blonde troupe was actually a valley girl troupe, which is not to say valley girl’s are dumb, because that’s not true either. it's cool actually, don't pay attention, everyone has their own tastes, the only problem with EA is that they are scamming money instead of making a game that many of us want to pay for. everyone has now forgotten a ton of hate for sims 3 when sims 4 wasn't out yet but was announced. I know the base game has basically no good options for anything, but I feel like they could have added something new in that would fit the girls' personalities better.
Also, you would think that since the Sims team went in to edit the Sims and update their looks that they also would have finally added relationships to the family as well, but they didn't. The sims all barely know each other and none are romantically interested in each other. This was the laziest "refresh" ever

My one complaint is that their skin looks gray-but that’s more criticizing TS4’s skin tone options for neutral and cool toned skin than anything else. The neutral and cool tones only look good when they’re very pale or very dark-anything in the middle, like the new calientes and goths, looks gray and muddy.
Plus I feel like warm toned skin just feels more fitting for the calientes anyways tbh
I like hearing about the different interpretations of the Caliente sisters. I never played the Sims 2, and it barely registered that they were in Barnacle Bay in Sims 3, but recently I've been watching a lot of lore videos, and I think my impression of them draws heavily on ZeeGee Simmer's Sunset Valley Machinima versions, which puts Dina as a serial grifter who marries for money then leaves her husbands, but is getting tired of the grift lifestyle and wants to find a nice guy and settle down. Meanwhile Nina is the brainier of the two and orchestrates the grifts behind the scenes. Nina wants to keep on with the grifting, so is a little upset with Dina when she falls for Michael Bachelor and turns over a new leaf. Most people are in agreement about Dina and her money-grubbing personality, but Nina seems less defined by the lore, and I see a variety of interpretations of her personality. I definitely agree that Dina should not be ambitious - although I think Sims 3 had her LTW as jack of all trades, which seemed really off to me considering the wide range of possible LTWs - like lap of luxury or swimming in cash, and of course gold-digger. I went to Barnacle Bay and "fixed" them and put them in my bin to add to other games.
I ALWAYS give Dina "gold digger" in the sims 3, it's perfect for her. And you're right, there is much more debate about Nina but I just always figured she is the one making sure the household gets everything done haha. Personality points in the sims 2 are more open-ended so it's hard to define exactly who she is.
the gag is that nighat, in the sims 2, was dead. she wasn't even playable. they fully brought her back from the dead JUST to erase her heritage and whitewash her.

The Sims is trying to appeal to a young audience then they have a mother and her daughters all sleeping with the same man who lives in the shed.

They could have literally copy and pasted the relationships and families of sims 2, and I think most people would be ok with it.

First, I loved the video and your makeover! I just did a makeover myself of the Calientes and Don, trying to make them look as close to their original TS2 counterparts. I did however keep Nighat’s hair red because although she’s naturally blonde she appears with red hair in the Caliente family photos. So she probably dyed her hair like e.g. Kaylynn Langerak who’s also genetically blonde☺️
As for these new TS4 version I definitely like them better overall. Like, the original TS4 Dina and Nina looked like teenagers with the way they were dressed and gave me more ”cute and innocent” vibes rather than ”bad b!tch energy”. And don’t get me started on their personalities…they literally switched them, like no, Nina is NOT the lazy twin. I’m not really bothered with Katrina because she doesn’t exist to me anyway and I always replace her with my version of Nighat!
As for Don I actually thought he was better before. He was okay if you just gave him a better beard and hair. Although more of a gym fboy, he still resembled Don to me. This new one though…he looks like he’s a middle aged man with 3 kids and drowning in child support…
And they’re all so ashy looking :( I would’ve liked to see a more warm, tan skin like they originally have!
I have a Flamenco and Nighat household in the sims 3 with Nina and Dina as toddlers and they're my favourite household to add to a world
EA could have definitely done worse, but also could have done much better. Oh well, better luck in Sims 5 I guess haha
So I actually don’t hate their looks at all. I think it’s a big improvement and much closer to the Sims 2 original versions but a little bit updated. What I’m not a fan of is how they decided to assign them traits and aspirations. Just, why 🤦🏻♀️

I agree that Nighat is the rightful Caliente matriarch, but I don’t hate the makeovers as much as you do lol. Dina’s pants aren’t the best but I actually think Nina’s outfit is really cute and I’m glad her face is no longer too small for her head.😂I don’t like Don’s face it’s giving me airhead gym bro more than suave Casanova. Also, I agree that the personalities are wrong. Dina’s laziness is what makes her low key iconic. As for them changing their eye color and giving them dark brows, I actually don’t mind because it brings out features of the Spanish / Arab ancestry and just makes it seem like they dyed their hair to be blonde / red. Overall I definitely think this is better than what we got originally.
I always wanted more of the Arabic to come through, so I'm happy about that. But not at the expense of lore, or alien ancestry 👽

Honestly I wish they just picked a lore corrected version from some random simmer and thats it. All the relationships are usually fixed in those, as well as, the families that don’t make sense like a young Bella not being missing and a young Mortimer doesn’t make sense either. Mortimer would likely be dead 25 years after and Bella would be old AND possibly missing depending on what the lore would come up with. Same with Calientes… theyre too young and what the hell is Katrina.

I'm so disappointed that I decided to remake the whole thing again in the sims 3. To add drama, I decided Katrina is the aunt who took in Nina and Dina when Nighat "died" when they were kids. But in my game she didn't really die and Katrina only said that because she didn't want to give the girls back and she essentially tried to kidnap them before the girls found out and ran away back to their mom. So now there's a whole rivalry between Katrina and Nighat, and Katrina has two daughters in their teens named Mina and Lena who she pretends are twins and basically tries to turn into little versions of Nina and Dina.
I appreciate you pointing out not only Nina and Dina’s mon’s name is Nighat, but also that she’s supposed to be genetically blonde. To be fair, in TS2 pictures she has redhair (and her genetically redheaded husband has brown hair in pictures), so presumably both she and Flamenco dyed their hair for some reason.
It was common in the 90s and early 2000s for blondes to dye their hair... Personally I've never seen the point 😂

@@Rekowcski I don’t think any blond(e) I’ve known was dumb. My siblings were all blond(e) as kids, though they are brown haired now and some of my cousins are still blonde. My grandma was blonde until she died in her eighties (towhead as a kid) and she was a pretty smart lady. One of my blonde cousins told me a bunch of dumb blonde jokes. She said blondes heard them more than any one.
I think the dumb blonde troupe was actually a valley girl troupe, which is not to say valley girl’s are dumb, because that’s not true either. There are people out there who lack common sense, which seems to be what that troupe was about, but it certainly has nothing to do with hair color and while it might have something to do with where you are raised, it might also be that the people who call someone lacking in common sense because they don’t get the common sense in one place would not survive in the environment of the very same person they are making fun of, because they don’t get the common sense there. Some common sense is universal. Some is not.

it's cool actually, don't pay attention, everyone has their own tastes, the only problem with EA is that they are scamming money instead of making a game that many of us want to pay for. everyone has now forgotten a ton of hate for sims 3 when sims 4 wasn't out yet but was announced.
I still play Sims 3, I haven't even touched Sims 4, I'm just sad that Sims 3 content is pretty scarce these days
