44 Survivor Pigeons VS. Falcons and Hawks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 січ 2025
- The survivor pigeons still have to resist for the rest of the winter but I decided to present them all because this was the hardest year and the ones that made it for now are truly remarkable. Because of disease this is the worst team of young birds and the old birds also struggled - it was the cold season with the highest humidity I can remember. I even lost 2 five year old females and this says a lot about this winter.
Although the falcon has the highest success rate, this season was difficult for the following reasons, in this order:
#1. Disease through the worst weather for pigeons (cold + high humidity... incredibly rainy winter).
#2. Hawks madness insisting at the loft with continuous attacks.
#3. Falcons (2 rival couples in the area - the good thing being that the dominant falcon saved my pigeons many times by chasing the other falcon).
As of January 15, 44/70 pigeons survived the natural selection race. The ones taken by the birds of prey were more or less also weakened by disease. While in the previous years the falcon/hawk percent was about 80%/20%, this year the hawks are really pushing the limit.
Disease: 7
Hawk: 8
Falcon: 10

Thank you for sharing this. I see 45 hero,s in this video. 45 strong pigeons and yourself sir for having to watch this happen when you let your pigeons out. I hope things ease up and please keep putting out the videos. Have a fantastic 2021 and i look forward to sharing it with you. Stay safe.
Thank you! You too.
There were 44 pigeons in the video but by the time I posted they are down to 42 in the loft. Full details in the description.
Awesome content as usual. Keep it up. Hopefully you dont lose too many birds.
@@thao078 Thank you.

Aww, man!
Fara ascunzisuri. Doua stoluri de porumbei, in plin zbor, incearca sa supravietuiasca atacurilor soimului, iar in imediata apropiere sta cu mana pe tragaci uliul.
Iar ne bagi in copilarie cateva minute, iar ne scoti in lupta maturitatii, ne faci praf.
De multe ori in cele aproape 2 luni in care am lucrat la clip imi ziceam ca nu are niciun sens atata migaleala, ca licentele pentru melodii nu merita, etc.
Măcar și pentru un suflet merită, nu? 🤭
@@nicubucaloiu9100 Da da, desigur.
It is very interesting to see the differences in behavior between domesticated pigeons and their wild ancestors, the rock pigeons. I have free flight Scottish rock pigeons. For example, when a peregrine falcon comes they never go up. The rock pigeons then always fly very low. The peregrine falcon doesn't like that. But there are even more differences in the behavior of rock pigeons to domestic pigeons. Still a very exciting video.
Never seen or heard of free flight Scottish rock pigeons. Interesting. Are they pure rock pigeons - the blue bars you see on cliffs? I didn't even know they can be domesticated. Most of the racing pigeons also fly low when falcons appear, just mine go so high, many fanciers asked me why they do that and I don't really know. Probably they feel more safe there since there are many hawk attacks at the ground level too - so they have to face double predation, hawks down and falcons up. But I also selected them for flying performance, I don't like them to stay down or hide in the loft, I only keep and breed from the ones that fly a lot even when there are birds of prey.
@@Pigeonmaniacom You can buy rock pigeons on wildlife exchanges, for example. There are also some subspecies. They are all blue with white backs and black bands. They are only half the size of a racing pigeon. You can't really tame them or train them. They have a mind of their own. When I enter the enclosure, I always knock on the door first and talk so that the pigeons don't panic. I also always have to wear the same clothes. It is an animal that you just enjoy watching and that has kept its independence. But I also love racing pigeons. My father always had some and was also in the club. Pigeons are wonderful animals.
@@tomwander40 I hope you will post a video with them. It is interesting that while being so wild they still enter a loft and live there, and they don't just fly away when you let them free out of the loft. I guess they also breed there. Haha, great point about having to wear the same color clothes - you are probably the only pigeon fancier that understands me when I say that I have to wear the same clothes, otherwise some of my pigeons panic a lot, I had some of them flying for hours around the loft when I changed my usual black clothes to yellow. My winter flying pigeons are also smaller than the usual racers, some of them are like you say about half the size of normal racing pigeons and they are also light, I remember the smallest females weight is just a bit above 300 grams while a short distance racer that isn't fit can be above 600 grams. So I guess this raptor selection and my preference for small pigeons shape them in the direction of their wild ancestors as a phenotype.
Interesting points !
@@Pigeonmaniacom The pigeon rises higher in order to avoid the attacks of the peregrine falcon. The higher it is, the higher it becomes difficult for the falcon to hunt. When the pigeon descends and the peregrine falcon comes from the sky, it is easier for him to catch the pigeon.
Really great and beautiful pigeons. Train very well, It’s really intense and fun to watch hawk chasing the pigeons.
Thank you.
Anytime my guy! Keep up the great work
Amazing and Very clever pigeons, congrats 👏👏👏

Those pigeons in the 0:35 second scene were very astute. They saw the falcon who was above them, and they negated his height advantage by circling tight around the house, and then when the falcon had dove down where they were, they immediately go straight up and use their superior flying ability to climb straight up because the falcon with his long wings cannot climb nearly as fast. These pigeons are natural born skyfighters, far superior to any human.
And here I thought Crows are the smartest birds
I mean caught one before with my hands n killed it so
@@death5913 pigeons are every bit as smart as crows, and crows have the mental advantage of being a carnivore. Most prey animals are nowhere near a match of wits for a predator. Pigeons are one of the exceptions. They are also tough as woodpecker lips. A homing pigeon got shot through the body with a .30 caliber military rifle bullet in WW1. It got shot down, recovered it's wits and flew off, making it to it's US Army handler after a four or five mile flight, with a metal message capsule, and shredded leg flapping along behind it hanging on by ligaments. An entire battalion of American soldiers survived the war because of that female pigeon's strength, stamina and will to return to it's home and family.
Super doskonałość i zwinność tych golebi naprawdę warte trzymania
Good ! It was interesting in the description of the pigeons about how many are related by blood from this 42 and aswell if they are related with some good racers in championship... keep doing !
Yes, I will do that summary in spring when I show the finalists. Most of them have the genes of my old stock male The Ambassador, 17 years old now.
@@Pigeonmaniacom interesting i have see couple of them looking alike one to each other, still the winter is not finnish, wait for the finalists.

Wow very nice video and stress reliever thanks to you...
I am glad. Thank you.
Hi mate another grate video I think lots of people would of given up on pigeons with all hawks and falcons round your area your birds tend to fly really high for racing pigeons round my area they tend to stay lower probably because less predators looking forward to you starting new racing season keep up the good work and good luck 👍
Thank you. Yeah, I don't know why they fly so high, many fanciers noticed that in the videos.
Great video my friend 😊
Pigeon is my passion 😊
Have a nice day Grettings from Poland
Thank you, Adam.
Watching from Indonesian , love your pigeon dude❤️
I ve noticed whenever my pigeons sees kites and sparrow hawks they start circling near them i dont knkw whats the strategy there but they do that always
Yes, they circle near the hawks when the hawks are in a position not good for the attack. I guess they do that to show them they are strong or to keep a minimum distance so that the bird of pray can't gain speed to attack.
@@Pigeonmaniacom yeah that can be the reason because when near birds of prey cant catch them easily
Love your videos and your trained pigeons 😁🙏🏼
I am glad, thank you.

Hey brother please give me advice,,,, my 2 pigeons are die i mean to say falcon kill my 2 pigeons and one is gone for falcon,,,, now i can't fly my pigeons because whenever i fly my pigeon falcon come again and again,,,,, now what should i do,,,,??,😭😭😭
You need to breed a lot more pigeons and select. The ones that survive will get better and better at avoiding falcons. Make sure they are 100% healthy, they have no chance with the falcon when they are even 90% healthy.
Do you want to see locations what is the price of each
can you pls. give me some ideas how to fly my pigeon in the highest point
I don't really know why they fly so high but it might be the hawks that attack them a lot at the ground level.
Very beautiful video 👌

A flock of birds takes off...
A graceful show in the sky...
And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings to travel the immense blue sky, where the shadow hunters patiently await; sharp beak and talons to snatch the less fortunate.

Hi, from what disease 7 of your pigeons died? this winter was very cold in my town too. My pigeons remained in the loft for a month.
I think paramyxo, just the initial renal stage from which some recovered... drinking more water than usual, weak, no other symptoms.
@@Pigeonmaniacom oo, that’s not good.. 😔 Hope everything is ok now.. :)
Nice video. What equipment do you use for filming ?
Thank you Maarten. For this one: Sony RX10 Mark III and iPhone XR.
Love you sir

Salut. Îmi spui te rog numele tău cu care ești înscris la club, și ce club?
Watching from Pakistan .I have pigens same like your pigeon
Bravo pigeons d best i love it
Racing pigeon and falcon speed are amazing❤
What were the symptoms of the sick bird?
Weak, drinking more water than usual... I think paramyxo initial stage.
@@Pigeonmaniacom symptoms of MODERN paramyxovirus in pigeons:
severe thirst, polyuria (watery droppings, but not green), regurgitation of food (small piles of wet regurgitated grain in a dovecote), neck stretching after drinking, unsteady gait, oblique "drunken" flight, death of 2-4 pigeons a day.
Do you vaccinate your bird against Paramyxovirus?
@@Dimarik73rus I vaccinate but just once not twice as recommended with booster shots. Didn't get any regurgitation, that is usually in adeno-coli. Unsteady gait yes, since they are also weakened. 2-4 pigeons per day is too much, I got that maybe per month. I find it interesting that it happens once in a while, and between these events all the pigeons look ok... it is like the virus just hibernates in some of them at it hits when their immune system is down.
I just noticed a link you posted but it got in the spam filter since it doesn't allow user links. i.mycdn.me/i?r=AyH4iRPQ2q0otWIFepML2LxRX4CZX9z9iISGGsImuy1P9Q - I saw that in one of the pigeons, it keeps the neck strange like that but after eating, like it would have a sticky throat and the grains can't go down. I didn't know that could be a paramyxo symptom, I thought it is just canker / trichomoniasis. That was in a pigeon from the racing team, not the winter flying ones... I got some problems there too.
@@Pigeonmaniacom Yes, your channel does not skip links. In the photo of my friend, the pigeon has 100% paramyxovirus. While it looks like E.coli, it is not. Added to this neck position are piles of regurgitation under the perches of birds. Usually 5-10 pigeons out of 100 regurgitate food, and this is paramikso.
Those Racing Homers almost in the dots now...
Whats the backround music name its very nice🥰🐦🌞
Wow them birds could fly got that hawk tired as hell i love to watch them fly reminds me when i had my pack over a hundred birds flying but i moved to U.S.A so i gave them away
How come your racers fly so high?
Not sure. They are usually smaller and more light than the normal racers.
@@Pigeonmaniacom i have similar homing/racers, a bit smaller in size, but don't fly that high.
0:35 watch the pigeons skillfully negate the falcon's most effective weapon( the stoop-dive) by corkscrewing around the building. They seem to understand that the falcon cannot dive fast enough if it is forced to maintain continuous direction changes.
Merci beaucoup ❤❤
Very nice video 😊😊😊👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅
Any film of raptors fighting will be highly appreciated, esp falcons vs hawks

At 12.24 the pigeon 940-16-M is a beautiful pigeon. Only my opinion but it must be a good bird to last through the Raptor problems you get all the time. Has the weather settled a little for you to pair the pigeons up yet as of the 12th of March 2021. Good luck.
Hi Graham, yes, I like that bird too. It is very light, you can't even hear him flying, and this helps with birds of prey around as it means more agility. The weather was great, warm and sunny, I paired them, and now the winter is back, it has been snowing nonstop for the last 2 days and it is very cold. They started to lay eggs yesterday. Every spring after I pair them up the winter comes back angry. It happened like this absolutely every year. lol
The never take a pigeon ?
They do take pigeons.

The chasing was so intense
It seems that this peregrine falcon has been specializing in high-flying pigeon breeds for more than one year. A minimum of unnecessary actions, everything is done quite competently. But nevertheless, an adult goshawk at the age of 3-5 years more confidently manages a whole flock of pigeons, choosing a weak pigeon, and more effectively crashes into a flock of pigeons, especially when the flock leaves for landing
There are no high flying pigeon breeds here, fanciers only fly racing pigeons and >95% of them are locked in the lofts from September till April.
I think the second Falcon was a Lanner Falcon, longer tail, less speed but more maneuverability than the Peregrine, he managed to catch the pigeon.
Bravo les pigeons
galing lods keep it up
I have experience flying racing Homers and various high flyer breeds but the best high flyers are Birmingham rollers but they must be feed as much as they will eat of a high energy feed.
Why can't you shoot the falcon if i got the opportunity like this it will be the last day of falcon
I like your warrior .

Super !
Power of the flock 💯 when they lose some they just breed again 😂
LOL, exactly. The birds of prey can't take as much as they can breed.
@@Pigeonmaniacom lol so true.
A.B.C. - lose
Those statistics make for grim reading when you are trying to build a Team of pigeons. ... And that is before you've done any training or racing.
Blessed to live in the city.. the B.O.P just go for the ferals
All the strength of a dove is in its maneuvers, it is very mobile and therefore must fight predators only in the sky. If you start to select pigeons, leave in the air those who were able to escape from the predator 1 on 1, and remove those pigeons that may fall into the attic or under the feet of the owner. Your losses will be minimal. The fallen dove looks like a discarded boxing towel, the dove has surrendered. At the sight of a falcon or especially a hawk, you can see how whole flocks of Russian pigeon breeders of the southern regions sit on the dovecote. These pigeons have a 0 chance in front of your falcon.
Yes. Every year I keep only the ones that fly a lot even with raptors around (you can see that when I open the loft some of them don't fly immediately, most of those are bad) - all the ones that crash to the ground especially at the hawk attacks are weak and are not calm birds. Being hunted by a hawk, to crash in a tree to hide is pure stupidity - I had such birds with parents bought from predation free areas of the country. But the pigeons that dive down from the sky with the falcon after them are not necessarily weak, because sometimes it breaks the flock in pieces, dives after many pigeons and then it is back up for the flock - it fragments the flock one by one. Then they have no choice but to get down to the loft if they are separated from the flock and chased. It is much easier for them to stay united in a flock if the falcon attacks closer to the ground, but if they are very high, it bombs them at incredible speed and they can't stay united. Some of the pigeons had to do a lot of maneuvers to escape from such a height, the agility is really tested to the max.
