It is thin, I felt like I was almost wearing tights but they had good coverage, opaque, and I totally felt comfortable wearing them out and about. You could see a very slight outline of the underwear line but you couldn't see the underwear at all if that makes sense. It bunched a little at the ankles but nothing bothersome. A friend of mine gave me a pair of regular black HUE leggings and I love those. Size xl and my waist is the same as yours, my hips are a few inches smaller and I'm 5'7. On the pricier side but didnt feel like my nails would go thru them. Opaque. Very dark black and length was perfect. Both very comfortable!
