Whitlock is part of the problem why these players want to join forces. You say you want them to stay in smaller markets and then at the end of their career youll say oh but he didnt win any rings. The media takes no blame.
So this just coming up now because of Durant I guess. I didn't hear people complain when Shaq left the expansion Magic high & dry to play for the glamour Lakers franchise.
Expansion? They had lost in the conference finals after playing for the championship the year before that. The Lakers prior to that were AT BEST a 6th or 7th seed. This is the umpteenth bad comparison I've seen on this one video.
Sid Jones The people citing "it's nothing new" do not follow the league or do their homework. There has never been a team with this much talent, in their prime, in its starting lineup that has made competition almost non-existent. All anyone remembers are the winners: Boston and LA dominating in the 80's, Chicago in the 90's, LA in the early 2000's and Lebron James led teams in the 2010's. They do not appreciate the fact that teams DID have legitimate shots of dethrowning them during these eras. No one remembers the 80's Philadelphia, Chicago or Dallas teams - heck, people even forget DETROIT - or the several contenders that battled Jordan and his Bulls in the 90's including Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, Utah, New York, Orlando, and Indiana. LA had San Antonio and Sacramento as legitimate threats. No one cares how the Heat had to get through San Antonio, Dallas, OKC, Chicago, Boston, and Indiana. GSW has MAYBE Houston as a potential threat, that's it. But even Houston pales in comparison talent-wise. They'd have to give it 100% and GSW only gives 80% just to win 4 of 7. They got close, but were not at full strength. The bias and sheer ignorance is astounding.
Numbers don't tell the entire story. Plus, Nick's every thought is to defend LeBron and make him supreme. I like LeBron, too, but Jesus, be objective sometimes.
This guy is ridiculous! How can GS be vilified? We drafted how many of our starting 5! How many on CLE roster was drafted by CLE! We added one guy who sat back and said where will my skills be the best, it was a perfect fit!!!
Yea but when they "one guy" you add is the 2nd best player in the world, it's cowardly on his part. Can't hate on the team for signing him but the NBA should have stepped in and not let it happen. It really does ruin the product and at the end of the day when you losing more fans than you are creating, it makes a serious problem.
KingMickD I'm very conflicted. Small market teams are already at a disadvantage, but now even good franchises like the Spurs are subject to players leaving on a whim. The Knicks are dysfunctional but because of where they're located they get interest from Kawhi's camp.
We live in the day and age of overreaction to everything. This has gone on forever. John Elway refused to be drafted by the Colts back in the early 80's! Eli Manning didn't want to go to San Diego. It's nothing new.
Just because the warriors got kd doesn’t make the warriors cowardly. If my team acquired 4 all stars id be happy and thats the job of the team management, to make the best team possible.
They won 73 games and actively recruited a weak minded dude to dismantle their biggest opposition to championships. It's not cowardly, but it's a little shady.
They won 73 games and then lost the Finals. Stop propping up 73 wins as if that team was unbeatable. Plus if KD literally joined that 73 win team they'd be unstoppable except they lost two starters and 4 rotation bench players from that team. SMH
There is a lot of player mobility in professional soccer, and it is not a problem. Arsenal fans are first loyal to Arsenal, and then the players. The American fans don't have the same attitude. American fans just want to associate themselves with whoever is the most successful at the moment, so they can feel "successful."
It’s Cowardly of the Golden State Warriors to accept and sign Kevin Durant , who is top 3 player in the league. Man what?! Take this man Whitlock off TV! This is BLASPHEMOUS!
cowardly? if ur a team u will anything to make it better...all their players where drafted so they have the right to acquire any superstar coz what they lack is the player who can go to the rim if their shooters are in the slump...ur mad coz they are destroying ur stupid team
It is tho. How is it not going to be seen as a weak move for the best scorer in the league to join a 73-9 already stacked Warrior squad. I’m for players moving but it’s just certain players shouldn’t be on certain teams. It’s weak.
that 73-9 team is gone when durant came...more than half of that team is gone...ur all are just mad coz his move affects ur fave team to win anything...hypocrisy is ream...blame ur team to have a stupid system and a stupid defense coz it will not attract any great players to come...why wud durant go to suns or any weak team? its stupid...regular season wins are overrated,,,
I love player mobility. Remember the pop of black men in america is like 6 percent but they make up nearly all of the NBA. So remember its a priveledge for these teams to have you. And theres no real loyalty in these organizations. if they feel the need to get rid of you they will just look at Isaiah Thomas
Cocklock is like a plant from billionaire owners. Its like he has no idea what being a human being is like. Hes purely business minded and has no sense of people.
People keep saying the Warriors are hurting the league, but the ratings say otherwise. Ratings have never been higher than they are today. The NBA has been growing fast, increasing in popularity, and they just got a new T.V deal that is worth BILLIONS in annual revenue. The NBA is a business and so far, they've been making tons of money. The Warriors are an international sensation because they are a "superteam." Superteams generate interest in the NBA and that's been proven by how many fans the Warriors have in different countries around the world.
Rating went down by soooo much when Durant went to the warriors both league pass and tv. The tv deals were signed before the warriors teamed up. People need to stop using finals ratings to justify a whole season.
EyeLoveTheStars Money and Ratings are fine. But it’s still bad for the league that the best scorer in the league joined a 73-9 team. Sure it’s exciting to watch a super team play but at the end of the year it’s the Warriors winning every single time. That’s bad. Plus for KD it reveals he’s weak. David West Pau Gasol they need to ring chase. KD? Best scorer in the league? No he didn’t need to chase rings like that.
I'm with Whitlock on this one. Basically the NBA now is being a fan of players because they're jumping ship from your team if the situation isn't ideal for them.
1. The NBA cannot veto free agent signings. KD was a free agent 2. The NBA can veto trades. 3. The NBA owned the Hornets at the time of the CP3 incident. The GM was not authorized to make the deal that he supposedly did. It all had to go through David Stern first. In other words, there never was a CP3 trade to even be vetoed.
My point is that they should be able to veto free agents going certain places. And when the ramifications hit (Loss of money from TV deals b/c of plummeting ratings) they will.
You have to give The Globe AND The Bible back Lebron didnt eliminate all competition in the entire NBA with his move, all his move did was allow him to compete in the first place , big difference
Razor Blades Lemonade oooo, so the way they get together matters? Don't matter Lewhine build super teams in the east with less competition?? He's the favorite to get to the finals every year in the east, how is that any different than GS?
You have to give The Globe AND The Bible back I’m saying it’s not different, Lebron has a cult following so when they see someone beat Lebron at his own game plan they mad
Not many players are unselfish, humble loyal and great Like Tim Duncan, Kobe, Stockton, Karl Malone, D Wade except once, Dirk, Magic, Jordan, Manu Ginobili etc I can’t find one player in the league right now Anywhere close to these players loyalty.
I think it’s great to have player mobility, but I think different incentives and measures should be in place to provide balance to the league. I like the “Pro player” motto but when fans are paying money you have to look out for them also.
The problem isn't the players and mobility, the problem is there are far too many teams that have no business being in existence. Some cities can't maintain or have any business hosting a team, but because of the extra franchise fees (expansion fee) the owners get every time a team is created, the league gives its blessing for small cities to get a team.Players not wanting to be in a small market that doesn't get them the most exposure and therefore the most money opt for larger cities as fast as they can. Can anyone really blame them ?
I think it would be better for the league if they can find 150 decent basketball players and have all 30 teams be competitive. Can't find 150 decent players ? Shame.
What do you mean, you said 150 decent players, so that would make it where all the players are around the relative same skill level, so there wouldn't be any superstars because people's skill would all be around the same.
Mobility isn't the problem. Having one team signing 4 prime all stars and destroying the competitive balance is the issue. Every other great team in the NBA had competition, 80s Celts, Lakers, Philly, Pistons went back and forth, 90s Bulls were pushed in the finals to 6 games five times, went to multiple game 7s on their way to the finals, Houston got their chips in, 00s Spurs, Lakers, Mavs, Heat, Pistons, Celts, all competed with each other, not to mention the Kings, Pacers, Jazz and other small teams that were extremely competitive at the time. This juggernaught went to 7 against Houston but seemingly only due to boredom. It's not competitive, they have no threat, which makes it dreadful to watch
Player mobility is good. Certain players though shouldn’t be on certain teams. I don’t mind KD moving from OKC. Great! The problem is he Moved to a 73-9 already stacked Golden State team. If Kawhi wants to Move from the Spurs... cool. But Kawhi shouldn’t go to the Warriors. All mobility is not created equal.
But dude was a free agent, which means he can go wherever he pleases... Everyone keep saying kd this and that but if LA gets Kawhi, lebron, and George it'll be ok?!!! Because people want to see lebron win....
Johnnie Mack lol, yeah it is okay to have Kawhi, pg and leHelp or leQuit... Before all these championships, you do know gsw was no one and they drafted their players. Even with kd, they needed to get rid of two starters, rim protector and depth of the bench for one player kd himself.... You also do know that lebron is the one to be blamed as he is the one who starts this trend of quitting and joining forces with other superstars in their prime. So stop crying just because lebron is being underachieved after all these quitting and joining forces with other superstars in their prime, but still ends up with 3-6 or 1-8 without the bail out by Allen in 2013 and by Adam silver in 2016.
This happens in soccer all the time. Players constantly moving and certain clubs just stacking up. That doesn’t always mean that marquee club wins it all. Nba issue is just a pure lack of competition.
OMG, I am so tired of Whitlock's takes... He cannot remove is his own personal bias from his arguments. He is not "pro fan" he is pro "Jason Whitlock's bias" which in this episode comes through as "Jason Whitlock's, Indiana Pacers fan bias". And, in other instances, he brings personal bias into a conversation and bullies the other analysts with the same nonsensical takes, without unique insight or fact based reason, but personal bias (go back and listen to his Kaepernick takes with him and Chris Broussard for some glaring examples). He brainwashes himself into believing that his own POV is objective because he lacks the ability to see through the eyes of another person -- aka he lacks of sympathy/compassion. His ego is also too big to ever, EVER admit that someone else may have a goof point and that his mind might be changed. That's why I respect Cowherd, Broussard, Bill Simmons -- they are willing to admit when they erred. It's also why I can't stand Nick Wright. Nick Wright and Whitlock should be on a show together called, "I'd rather argue my point than me right." So.... right now he's upset about Paul George leaving. Period. The fact that he said, "Kevin Durant AND the Warrior's team ruined the NBA," is my case and point. The Warriors were constructed from the draft and, other than Harrison Barnes, NOT ONE integral player has exercised their right to go to another team. Just because KD wanted to play with a team he had chemistry with, that would compete for championships, was revolutionizing the game, had the potential to become an all-time great dynasty, and solidify himself as one of the all tie greats, while going up against his good friend and rival every year in the championships... why is that a bad decision for him or the NBA? That decision has made the NBA more exciting than anything that has happened in that past 10 years! You now have the best team of this era VS the best player of this era going head to head every year and watching how the to entities go about finding new ways to compete with one another is exciting! Also, it has elevated the overall play of the league. The Rockets could have beaten the Warriors. and it looked like they were going to before CP3 went down. Th reality is that, KG and Ray Allen teaming up with Paul P in Boston frustrated Lebron to the point where he said, "F**K this, I am gonna go do the same thing" and left for Miami to try and beat that Boston team he hated so much -- to give them a taste of their own medicine. From thee, he only moved back to the Cavs because they had a top 5 PG (top 7 play imo) in Kyrie, and, at the tie, a top 12-15 player in Kevin Love promising to Join him for another super team. This was BEFORE the warrior had ANY player come join them. They were only able to compete with that Lebron created Cavs team because of injuries in the first two series. And so they realized that and went a got a player that could give them an edge... And now it's all we talk about! It's a conversation that keeps the NBA relevant year-round, "how are teams going to keep up with the Warriors." "Are the Warriors their own worst enemy? The 6th man, motivation." "Which team will Lebron go to challenge the Warriors? Phili, LA, Boston, HOUSTON?!?!..." Jason whitlock, you are an old school dude with blinders on and a lack to ability to see thing s from other's shoes. Because of that, you are turning into grumpy old guy, which I hate, because you weren't always like that. And you are doing a disservice to amazing analysts you bring on the show, interrupt, and don't listen to. Open you ears and close your mouth for a second. You job is to facilitate these conversations, but you aren't doing that -- you might as well just do the show yourself being so unwilling and stubborn in your POVs.
If sports talk shows didn't put so much emphasis on a championship validating a players career, then maybe players wouldn't feel like their legacy depends almost solely on getting one. The players aren't exclusively to blame for 'superteams,' and talk show hosts should consider the narrative they've created as being part of the problem. That's my two cents.
Worst part about this discussion is they are crying on where they are going but make millions of dollars doing it. They should be ashamed of themselves. They dont deserve it
One better solution is to really enforce the salary cap, if the team got maxed out, they are not allowed to pay penalties just so they are able to form a super team.
I respect Whitlock, dudes always finding the negative in something but he sticks to it and doesn’t give in to peer pressure. He’s on an island but he’s proud of it
There is no league without the players. They need to be allowed the freedom they deserve. If a player isn't happy with a situation or a team, they shouldn't have to suffer through that when they have the option to leave and be better elsewhere. Right? I mean, employee wants to stay with an organization they're not happy with?
Theres already a system in place ... last place teams get lottery picks and get to pick draft picks first.. Small market teams have the potential to draft the next big superstar ...look at Donovan mitchel , Devin booker, Antekompo , Anthony Davis etc etc
Get rid of the conferences. West v East is crazy. 30 teams, so 29 opponents. Home & away for every team makes a 58 game season. Less money but players stay fresh & play longer. Remove the conference system & the weakness of the east doesn't matter. (NFL should abandon them too)
Yes the East is trash. But that doesnt mean that he didnt attempt to dominate anyway he could by weakening the other teams by stealing the all stars in that area. And he has been to the finals 8 years straight. Warrior go 4 after not having been for decades, and its a problem. At least 3/4 of their main stars were drafted and home grown. Lebron grabs everything he can from everywhere. Hypocritical.
It’s the players choice, guys spend their entire lives from the time they can hold a basketball, they deserve their freedom for what ever reason they want to go wherever they want to go.
Only superstars, stars and semi-stars have mobility. That's a small group, maybe 15 to 20 tops, so everything will balance out. It also helps some fans of otherwise mediocre teams.
Mobility and Whitlock don’t belong in the same sentence
W

LOL
Just Run Smith lol
Real talk...all he do is hate. Him and skip.
Just because Whitlock can barely move doesn't mean player mobility is bad for the league

I wonder how Whitlock feels about the abolishment of slavery? 🤔
PathBeyondTheDark exactly what is this guy that Whitlock has this stance then he's for slavery makes no sense
Pre Law - a better question is whether or not slavery and someone having a job that they can voluntarily quit at any time are even remotely comprable.
He hated it
I love this
He didnt enjoy it because of societal mobility
Magic slowly assembling the infinity gauntlet.
Someone needs to photoshop this
Hey Hayes popovich wont deal him to lakers lol
If he could pull this off...still unlikely..
andz c imagine what pop would do with kuzma ingram and zo. Wow
andz c he can still leave for LA after next season
So this just coming up now because of Durant I guess. I didn't hear people complain when Shaq left the expansion Magic high & dry to play for the glamour Lakers franchise.
Coinraker social media 🤷🏼♂️
The same outcry took place when LeBron left Cleveland. This aint new.
Expansion?
They had lost in the conference finals after playing for the championship the year before that.

How are Whitlock and Nick on TV?
If you put people with the same personality, a debate show would be boring. So they need different guys for diversity.

People do care because their main argument of super team is regular season win/lose. “Oh it’s different because he didn’t join a 73-9 team”😭😭😭

Whitlock is pro big mac
I'm with Whitlock on this one. Basically the NBA now is being a fan of players because they're jumping ship from your team if the situation isn't ideal for them.
If it’s not good for the league the league should have denied the acquisition of Durant to the warriors rn we wouldn’t be having this problem
Then the league should have denied Lebron's move to Miami too!
They should have stopped CP3
They did stop CP3 when he tried to go to the Lakers.
1. The NBA cannot veto free agent signings. KD was a free agent
2. The NBA can veto trades.

Whitlock was this close 👌🏿 from getting smacked by Jim
So Lewhine can join with a top 3 player in the NBA and everything is ok lol hypocrites
You have to give The Globe AND The Bible back Lebron didnt eliminate all competition in the entire NBA with his move, all his move did was allow him to compete in the first place , big difference

Too many childish comments about Jason’s appearance. Thank god most of you aren’t in debates
I can’t wait for QBs and WRs to team up and make the offseason interesting.
Cakelock back at it...
Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and Carmelo were traded. So not every player just up and jumped to the west.
Whitlock is super annoying, never knows what he talking about
Brossard needs his own show
This is why there should be no conferences. This wouldn’t even be a concern if there wasn’t anymore
Whitlock the OG
Players should be in control of their experience
You have no respect the way you be swallowing them calories
I whole-heartedly agree with Whitlock on this.
But what about when the front office trades players?
Not many players are unselfish, humble loyal and great Like Tim Duncan, Kobe, Stockton, Karl Malone, D Wade except once, Dirk, Magic, Jordan, Manu Ginobili etc
I can’t find one player in the league right now Anywhere close to these players loyalty.
I think it’s great to have player mobility, but I think different incentives and measures should be in place to provide balance to the league. I like the “Pro player” motto but when fans are paying money you have to look out for them also.
Whitlock HAS to be a character he has writers
Whitlock is barkely 2.0

Jason "MegaCoon" Whitlock......ladees & gents 😉🤣😅😆✌☝️✊💯👽
Jim jackson and broussard would be great hosts..always objectives. And less emotions
Talent isn't finite but money is.
We need to block Whitlock and McIntyre from talking about sports.
Lebron shouldn't left Cleveland !!! In turn Durant didn't have to follow his footsteps of leaving okc . " that's player mobility"
There is a problem, if you cannot decide on where you want to go
I think it would be better for the league if they can find 150 decent basketball players and have all 30 teams be competitive. Can't find 150 decent players ? Shame.
what are u talking about. Star players is what runs this league teams love their superstars
You don't have much logix do you.
Star players sell jerseys, sell tickets, make people watch.
Again you don't make any sense.
Whitlock... bro
Are YOU really bringing up mobility? Lol
It happens in most sports. Neymar leaves Barcelona to go to Paris, Renaldo left English football to go play in Spain etc.
Jason McIntyre making a good point. Wow
Jim Jackson nailed it once again
Whitlock is pro food
"Go ahead and fine me."
I don’t need team concept, I cheer for players meaning I watch all games.
No, it's ok for them to team up b/c it will take a superteam to compete with a superteam.
Johnnie Mack the problem with people's idea of equality...
equality of outcome is not true freedom it's called communism...
Whitlock should host a show with Skip Bayless. That way, we could avoid enduring their nonsense on professional talk shows.
Nick Wright and Whitlock should be on a show together called, "I'd rather argue my point than me right."
So.... right now he's upset about Paul George leaving.
Phili, LA, Boston, HOUSTON?!?!..."
Jason whitlock, you are an old school dude with blinders on and a lack to ability to see thing s from other's shoes.
They don't like that it's throwing light on bron.
Great investigative work, Fatlock. 🔍
They dont deserve it
Whitlock hates mobility period. That man needs a scooter to get around
One better solution is to really enforce the salary cap, if the team got maxed out, they are not allowed to pay penalties just so they are able to form a super team.
Player mobility is very good what is missing is a serious salary team hard Cap.
Lebron is the best player in the world
Lonzo Ball would like to have a word with you
I respect Whitlock, dudes always finding the negative in something but he sticks to it and doesn’t give in to peer pressure. He’s on an island but he’s proud of it
People who have never played basketball do not at all deserve to make points that directly affect the nba players
Never take their free choice away.
Whitlock tried to play Jim Jackson lmaoo
There is no league without the players. They need to be allowed the freedom they deserve. If a player isn't happy with a situation or a team, they shouldn't have to suffer through that when they have the option to leave and be better elsewhere. Right? I mean, employee wants to stay with an organization they're not happy with?
I bet Whitlock thinks slavery was a choice lol
Ya'll are brutal with these comments 🤣🤣⚰⚰
Theres already a system in place ... last place teams get lottery picks and get to pick draft picks first.. Small market teams have the potential to draft the next big superstar ...look at Donovan mitchel , Devin booker, Antekompo , Anthony Davis etc etc
Mobility is anti-slavery ✌
This has happened in the past
Blacks hate Whitlock. But he's right many times.
Get rid of the conferences. West v East is crazy. 30 teams, so 29 opponents. Home & away for every team makes a 58 game season. Less money but players stay fresh & play longer. Remove the conference system & the weakness of the east doesn't matter. (NFL should abandon them too)
The team is cowardly for getting Durant?
So you want players to be forced to stay somewhere they don’t want to? Where they do that at?
Jason McIntyre was a huge 80’s basketball fan. Lol dude is too wet behind the ears.
But it was ok to Lebron to dominate the East for 8 years by himself by team jumping. That was ok. Seeing him for 8 years.
Ephalanx the East is trash. His teams weren't THAT dominant. ONE good GM or Rose not getting hurt could have saved us.
All players to warriors , one team , KD wins every year
Whitlock is wrong. Player mobility is what has made the league insanely entertaining in the off season
I agree only time I agree with Whitlock
Only superstars, stars and semi-stars have mobility. That's a small group, maybe 15 to 20 tops, so everything will balance out. It also helps some fans of otherwise mediocre teams.
