Yup, 42 years between Star Wars (episode IV) and The Rise of Skywalker (episode IX). I was hooked at 14 in 1977 and have been a Star Wars fan ever since!!
The girl that offers spice to obi wan is McGregors daughter in real life its a cool Easter egg especially with her reference about her being someone's daughter once lol
I love how John Williams provided the theme for the series and thus, after forty-five years, Obi-Wan finally has a theme of his own. Upon hearing it, I loved it, especially for how it fits Obi like a glove.
Ten years after the enactment of Order 66 and the Galactic Republic's re-organization into the Galactic Empire, a former Jedi Master Obi-Wan is now a self-exiled recluse on the planet Tatooine under the alias Ben where he works at a meat factory and watches over a young Luke, despite numerous warnings to stay away from him and his family by his step-uncle Lars.
That was a CLONE, they betrayed the Jedi with Order 66 remember? Although if you had watched Clone Wars you know just how utterly sad it was to see that clone. Reva was the youngling you saw at the beginning that said we run. She blames Kenobi for either failing to protect her and the younglings or she blames Kenobi for Anakin falling to the dark side, something like that.
@@7Rendar Because you learn to care about the clones in Clone Wars and realize they were as much pawns in Sidious's game as everyone else. Seeing how they were left out to dry after the war and some of them are now homeless is pretty sad to me. They were created just to be cannon fodder, then the ones who survived were cast aside like trash.
If someone asks a question that gets answered later in the show I'd just let them wait and find out naturally in the show rather than just spoil it ahead of time for them.
I saw Star Wars opening night in 1977 in the theater when I was a young kid. Went to see the next two films too. Waited almost 20 years for more films and read a bunch of Star Wars books while waiting.... In less than three years I will have been a Star Wars fan for 50 years, and it took this long and Miss Popcorn to realize one thing...... Star Wars does indeed cut off a lot of hands. 😂😂😂
I would highly recommend the film Used Cars from 1980, starring Kurt Russell as a used cars salesman who is trying to save the car lot he works for from his bosses evil brother. It's a wet-your-pants kind of funny.
In regards to setting, this is 10 years after Revenge of the Sith (so about 9 years before both Rogue One and A New Hope), 5 years since Jedi: Fallen Order (a video game), and 5 years before the first season of Star Wars Rebels. So the Galactic Empire reigns supreme and the Rebel Alliance has yet to be formed, though individual cells of rebels are fighting the Empire. As for Padme, I believe in the theory that Palpatine manipulated the Force to preserve Vader's life after Mustafar at the expense of Padme, that the reason this was a Dark Side power was because for a life to be made or spared, a life needed to be taken. The opening of Episode 1 was Operation: Knightfall, when Vader and the 501st Legion attacked the Jedi Temple while Sidious issued Order 66. The homeless clone trooper was wearing the colors of the 501st. By this point, the clones have long since been decommissioned in favor of the infamously lesser stormtroopers. While there is a 19 year time difference between Episode I and IV, keep in mind that Ewan McGregor was 33 in Episode III, while Sir Alec Guinness was around 63 in Episode IV. Owen and Anakin were step-brothers following the marriage of Shmi Skywalker to Cliegg Lars, Owen's father. The pinked haired spice dealer was Ewan McGregor's real daughter.
Now that you have a "Star Wars background" (the original trilogy and the prequels), I absolutely recommend watching The Mandalorian. It's basically a side story in the Star Wars universe but has many references to those movies that, while not essential, are very enjoyable to those familiar with what's come before.
The Mandalorian is the best Star Wars show.... This Obi-Wan show just seems like lazy and bad writing going in certain parts just do not make much sense..
Regarding the belief that if Qui-gon had lived, he might have saved Anakin - that is basically canon. The music playing during the fight against Darth Maul is called "Duel of the the Fates". It refers to Anakin's fate - the Sith defeats the Jedi, and so Anakin is fated to become a Sith lord... but the padawan avenges the Jedi, foreshadowing the hope for Vader's redemption, that Obi-wan will make possible. And Anakin absolutely killed Padme. If the injuries he inflicted when he attacked her did not do it directly, his betrayal of her and everything she had loved in life is certainly what cost her the will to live.
Since Obi-Wan actually plays before The Mandalorian in the timeline, it even makes sense to watch this series first. Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Vader. He saw the video in Episode 3 with Anakin kneeling before Palpatine. But he left him behind on Mustafar, dismembered, fatally wounded and burnt. For him, Anakin was dead. And after that he was hiding for ten years on Tatooine as a hermit. A remote planet, with just some larger cities. Most people may never have heard of or seen Darth Vader at all. For them it were the Inquisitors who instigated fear and terror. Not even the senate seems to have known at that point Vader was alive, since Bail Organa didn't mention him to Obi-Wan when pleading for help.
You need to watch both The Clone Wars and Rebels series, they're not exactly a grind, (one being only 7 seasons and the other only 4,) at 22 minutes each, (per episode,) even if you watch them casually, you'll thank yourself, I promise. ✌ edit; apparently I wasn't the first to try telling you lol 😇
Not that I'm saying they're a grind, but "only" doesn't fit before 7 seasons. Clone Wars has 133 episodes, that's a huge commitment to a reaction channel.
@@theawesomeman9821 Can the last four episodes be watched on their own? I heard very good things about them but I don't have that much time and the show didn't catch me enough to want to watch everything.
Obi-wan is 47 in this series, while Ewan McGregor was 50. In A New Hope Obi-Wan is 57, while Alec Guiness was 62 so he was only 12 years older than Ewan was. Just 2 years off. Remarkable actually.
Rebels (the cartoon) would give you so much background for this show especially the inquisitors. It would also show an older Ashoka (Anakin's padawan) who you'll see in Mandalorian and in her own show soon . You can see young Ashoka in Clone Wars cartoon. Sooo much star wars!!!
Owen is Anakin's stepbrother when Shmi, Anakin's mother, married Owen's father. Reva was a Youngling during Order 66. She thought Obi-Wan abandoned the Younglings.
You're right about Qui Gon, he would have kept Anakin from falling to the dark side. The score to the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul is called "Duel of the Fates" exactly because their battle would decide the fate of Anakin and the whole galaxy for decades
15:15 The actress who said "I was someone's daughter once." is actually Ewan McGregor's real life daughter. So she was someone's daughter once, and she's standing in front of her father saying that. Kinda cool.
Love your perspective on what might have happened to Anakin if Qui Gon survived. Props to whoever mentioned the true meaning of "Duel of the Fates" earlier in the comments As far as Vader goes, it would make sense why Obi doesn't know who he is. As far as Obi is concerned, he left Anakin to die. No one except Palpatine and the clones that were with him, witnessed Anakin survive. To the general public, Vader is mostly a feared myth, and Anakin was declared dead from Order 66. Vader is rarely seen and most who meet him, don't survive. Palpatine is really the main public face of the Empire. So while Obi may have heard whispers of Vader at some point, he had no reason to think it was Anakin. Some people (like Tarkin) who knew Anakin from before and spent time with Vader, eventually did deduce that Anakin and Vader were the same person. But to the average person, he was a terrifying ghost story. Also, like many here have said: I think you would love the Star Wars animated shows (Clone Wars and Rebels). They are wonderful (for the most part) and really add a lot to so many of our favorite characters!
Andor will arrive late August roughly around the same time as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Cobra Kai season five. They also announced that the third season of the Mandalorian will arrive this February. A fourth season is in development. They're also working on a Lando series with Donald Glover returning to reprise his role from Solo.
I believe that Reva, the Jedi hunter obsessed with Obi Wan, was the child Jedi from the opening scene in Part 1. Some former Jedi younglings and padawans turned against the Jedi and hunted them in order to save their own skins. So yes, she does have the force.
At first no one knew who Darth Vader was. Who was this new guy? The Emperor knew but everyone thought Anakin died along with all the other Jedi. At first the Emperor’s troopers and High ranking officers didn’t respond to Darth Vaders orders and he killed so many The emperor had to intervene. The emperor finally told his officers an order from Vader was the same as an order from himself. A bacta tank was located in Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar, where the Dark Lord would relax and meditate outside of his life support armor with a modicum of comfort.

The head kidnapper (the one who breaks the Lola) is Flea, bassist and a founding member of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers
“The Inquizzlers, the inquirers… and Quippley!” Lol. Love it 🤣
Inquizzlers sounds like a Twizzler candy spinoff haha
In medieval battles cutting of the sword hand of a knight swordsman during battle was standard practice to permanently disable him this practice went back to the bronze age to captured soldiers this is why swords have guards on them
The Clone wars is an amazing show, that you really must watch
I just recently finished season 7 and Filoni’s final four episode arc was f-ing amazing.
The young lady with the pink hair who Obi-Wan meets in episode two is Ewan McGregor's daughter in real life. 😀
Clone Wars please, you will not regret it one bit. So much lore and backstory. Thank you for reacting to this
Yup, 42 years between Star Wars (episode IV) and The Rise of Skywalker (episode IX). I was hooked at 14 in 1977 and have been a Star Wars fan ever since!!
That was Anakin you got a quick glimpse of at the end of Episode 2. It's what he looks like under the suit.
You’re right about Qui-Gon Jinn’s fate decided Anakin’s fate. That’s why the song that plays during the fight is called duel of the fates.
Love your takes on things. Wish I enjoyed this show.
The girl that offers spice to obi wan is McGregors daughter in real life its a cool Easter egg especially with her reference about her being someone's daughter once lol
Love when you do Star Wars reactions. I also can’t wait for your Creed 2 reaction
"They cut off so many hands in Star Wars" 8:44 it's such an essential trope, even Disney has to keep the tradition of hand-chopping alive.
This is the first hand Disney has taken. They have not really kept it alive at all.
They cast Leia perfectly. The child does a great job and feels like a feisty and smart Leia.
Yeah, no idea where her critics are coming from. The kid is killing it.
She’s educated and savvy without being spoilt. She plays it perfectly
Luke and Leia were about 17 years old when we get to "A New Hope" with older Obi-Wan.
The animal Obi-Wan is riding is an Eopie.
I love how John Williams provided the theme for the series and thus, after forty-five years, Obi-Wan finally has a theme of his own. Upon hearing it, I loved it, especially for how it fits Obi like a glove.
I agree. It's a shame the rest of the music doesn't hold up.
@@GreenFalcon926 It's a shame the rest of the series doesn't hold up. My goodness this show's writing is hot garbage.
7:52 The instigator finder guy 😂😂
This will forever be their name now to me.
Was that bad guy played by flea?
Michael Balzary in this was one of the biggest treats for me in this series. that and the quality light saber dueling
The fact that Leia can outrun adults chasing her is totally absurd, bordering on the ridiculous.
That was right out of a three stooges bit.
You never chased a kid in a mall I guess.
I have watched Clone Wars but I still don't know what's so sad about seeing that clone?
@@7Rendar Because you learn to care about the clones in Clone Wars and realize they were as much pawns in Sidious's game as everyone else. Seeing how they were left out to dry after the war and some of them are now homeless is pretty sad to me. They were created just to be cannon fodder, then the ones who survived were cast aside like trash.
@@Progger11 I see now, I though the other commenter ment something about that clone specifically. My mistake.
If someone asks a question that gets answered later in the show I'd just let them wait and find out naturally in the show rather than just spoil it ahead of time for them.
Fun fact - the bald headed kidnapper is Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers band, he's their bassist!
Lol that eyeroll when Reva trying to sound menacing describes her character in a nutshell.
She'd love Toby
Cassie, Obi-Wan has been isolated on Tatooine for 10 years. The last time he saw Anakin, he was being burned alive. He just assumed Anakin was dead.
He knows anakins name was Vader and somehow ten years later he magically never heard of the emperors right hand .
The writer said he didn’t realize Obi-Wan knew Vader was Anakin.
@@laurenmasters Where in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith does Obi-Wan find out that Anakin is named Vader? I don't remember that ever happening.
@@GopherBaroque61 he sees it on the hologram the emperor says lord Vader, rise and he says I can’t watch anymore
15:00 Cass: "Are we supposed to know him?"
Boba Fett: "Let's just say you've seen his face."
"What did I just see???" was the cutest thing I've ever heard 😂
You need to watch both The Clone Wars and Rebels series, they're not exactly a grind, (one being only 7 seasons and the other only 4,) at 22 minutes each, (per episode,) even if you watch them casually, you'll thank yourself, I promise. ✌
edit;
apparently I wasn't the first to try telling you lol 😇
Not that I'm saying they're a grind, but "only" doesn't fit before 7 seasons. Clone Wars has 133 episodes, that's a huge commitment to a reaction channel.
I say just react to the best arcs of the show like Umbara, Ashoka bonding with Anakin, Ryloth, and the last four episodes of the entire series.
@@theawesomeman9821 Can the last four episodes be watched on their own? I heard very good things about them but I don't have that much time and the show didn't catch me enough to want to watch everything.
The old war veteran was a clone trooper. Even played by the same actor who played Jango and the clones in the movies.
Obi-wan is 47 in this series, while Ewan McGregor was 50. In A New Hope Obi-Wan is 57, while Alec Guiness was 62 so he was only 12 years older than Ewan was. Just 2 years off. Remarkable actually.
So much time has passed
"They just breezed right over that." Have you seen *Troops* (fan film)?
~10:00 Leia reminds me of my daughter at 7 years of age.
Just a little fun fact. The girl Obie wan meets who offers him spice is his actual daughter in real life
Rebels (the cartoon) would give you so much background for this show especially the inquisitors. It would also show an older Ashoka (Anakin's padawan) who you'll see in Mandalorian and in her own show soon . You can see young Ashoka in Clone Wars cartoon. Sooo much star wars!!!
Hey great reaction! Loved it! Great to see you finally watch this show. May the force be with you!
Leia has always been a smart cookie, I'm in love with that little actress 😎
Love your content and editing style is excellent. Feels like Im not missing a thing. You guys are great. Awesome stuff.
Piece of trivia for you boss, the dealer with pink hair was Esther Rose McGregor, Ewan's daughter.
This should be interesting, I was surprised how dark this series got
Absolutely right, you could barely see anything in episode three
Owen is Anakin's stepbrother when Shmi, Anakin's mother, married Owen's father.
You gotta get back to obi wan the last few episodes have just been tugging at the ok heat strings
Just gotta comment on how fun its been watching someone who had not seen Star Wars a year ago, and is now binge-watching a TV series. =P
Props to whoever mentioned the true meaning of "Duel of the Fates" earlier in the comments
As far as Vader goes, it would make sense why Obi doesn't know who he is.
Obi-Wan and Yoda watched a holo recording of Palpatine calling Anakin Darth Vader in ROTS so of course Obi-Wan knows.
Filoni was the first to talk about this
He would have known that "Vader" was Anakin.
But I daresay he would have dismissed the stories as rumours and myths.
“yeah, i don’t think she’s gonna stand down,” hahaha: good intuition! glad to see you diving in, & thank you for your reaction!
You’re right about Qui Gon. There’s a reason the music is called “Duel of the Fates"
"They really should do a Previously On..."
LOL. They literally do that.
