I used to think this too. A pack of wolves has a hierarchy and is very exclusive. The pack mentality is what makes wolves predatory. Dogs, on the other hand, have a social mentality. They love their families, but unless they're neglected/abused, they're open and welcoming by nature. Wild animal pack is a complex mindset, but our domesticated dogs are much more simple.
Pack theory and “dominance theory” has been debunked for more than 20 years! The whole thing was based on flawed research on unrelated groups of wolves. in reality dogs have a much different social structure. More like a family than a “pack”. I’ve always had multiple dogs (three to five generally) and have trained for many sports, and service and guide dogs etc. I’ve never had a dog who didn’t respect his elders. Even when my oldest dogs have had serious health issues and could barely get up, the younger dogs still respect them and treat them with deference. They listen if the older dog tells them to back off. They don’t “challenge” the older dogs and try to “take over”and be “the leader”. That’s not how their social structure works. Today we have much better science on dog brains and dog behaviour.

You are watching the wrong videos. When I was a mother of teens and younger, I loved my kids and spent lots of time with them. Now that I am a grandmother and great-grandmother, I love my pups. So, mind your own business!!
I get almost all of these each night, starts head to head for face grooming, then belly rubs and spooning, slowly moving from a head on the legs to the feet, turning their back to look at the door at some point, to finally jump off the bed when I start to fall asleep and then regain their mats ... a dog will move during the night, a lot :)
I miss dogs so much. Its worse when your friends have these gift from God, and you only get to visit.Had dogs all my life, and puppies make me melt with love. Dogs are more loyal then humans, in my experience. Loyalty is my honor.
My dog likes to sleep near my knees with his butt against me . However that puts him directly under the AC/heating vent. The other one comes and goes but wants to have his back against me near my head unless he gets too hot.
My cane Corso mastiff spends part of every night sleeping on her enormous footstool in the living room and the rest of the night sleeping in bed with me. She prefers the back-to-back sleeping position, but she sometimes lays sideways in the bed on her side. Lol.
My malinois female that I've had since she was seven weeks old has slept every night for seven years (since I got her as that seven week old puppy) against the back of my legs. As soon as she sees the signs I'm gonna go to bed, she heads straight for the bedroom and is waiting in her spot on the bed. And she doesn't get up till I get up in the morning. I dread the day I lose her - she's done that every night for so many years, I'm going to notice that when it's gone.
I dont like my dogs in my bed, never have. My Heelers steal my socks, slippers and one quietly curls up at the bottom of my bed i hardly notice. Yes he is a velcrove dog. As a puppy he was hit by a car and it traumatized him. His brother is not velcrove.
My BC Tess Siobhan used to snooze with me til my new BC pup Gypsy Rose Lee's came to live with me. It wasn't long before Tess let her sleep with us. Tess was 16.2 when she died in '08 and her son JackBNimble (and his girlfriend/Gypsy Rose Lee's cousin Bo Peep) moved in with us. Jack was such big boy from living outside with his thick coat so I let him stay outside as much as possible and he lived to be 17 yrs. til '12. Gypsy and Bo Peep were kennel mate's and adjusted well together even inside. When puppy Gypsy got a bit borjed one day and bit holes in my comforter, blanket, mattress cover, and a pillow, I banned her to a space under my desk-next to my bed. She didn't seem to mind and stayed there, but behaved herself better when Bo came. They both chose to sleep together from then to Bo's death at 13.11 yrs., April '18 Gypsy followed in Nov.'18 when she was 14.18 yrs. Guess who was jealous and then sad? Not just me, but first Tess and then Gypsy after Bo's death.

I'd actually suggest that when training a puppy, do NOT train them to sleep with you if you plan to have a romantic life. It becomes very difficult if your dog can only sleep in your bed!
What about position in the environment. Who's nearest entryways or food etc. I live with 9 dogs, multigenerational, I think it's more relevant for ordinary owners to consider.
My toy poodle, would sneak out of my sisters room, and do a full turn, then fall into me. My sister called her a traitor! I have been told female dogs, like strength and men better. Dont know if its true. All my dogs were female. They are so smart. When my shrunk dobermen, about as big as a poodle. She would go to the door if my mother used my name.I had to go up and see her, or she would wait at the door forever. After we came up with a code, I swear, she figured that out in a week, how can they be so smart? How?
I've got two sisters I've raised since they were puppies. You cannot believe the jealousy between the two when they don't get the coveted spot up beside my head? LOL I share my love equally, and don't ever do any "favoritism" type crap? They both know that they are loved? Yet they will get mad if they can't be next to my head?
I do too. My son takes mine home with him when I have a Dr's appointment because I don't want to leave her alone. He brings her back the next day . I can't hardly sleep I miss my little shiz tzu so much. 😅 But she has a good time playing with his dogs 😅.
I would like to know why every time I get up either from the bed or a chair my dog jumps in my spot. I don't think it's to keep warm. It may be because of the scent but most of the time he doesn't want to move when I come back until I threaten to sit on him. 🤔
Where I go, my dog goes, or we don't go. ❤

They just wanted their old dog back. So don’t rush this! Grieve until you are truly ready to let go and are eager to move on to a new companion. You will never forget the dog that you list, but you can enjoy learning to love a new dog too.
I'M KINDA GLAD THAT OUR DOGS DON'T SLEEP WITH ME. I HAVE A TWIN BED, AND IT WOULD BE KINDA CRAMPED IF OUR DOGS SLEPT WITH ME. THIS IS IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE WHEN I TRY TO TYPE REGULAR, I SEEM TO ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CAPS BUTTON, SO NOW I CAN JUST MAKE IT ALL CAPS AND DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CORRECTING HITTING THE DAMN CAPS BUTTON.
Just don’t shout. We can all read, but not bother to read someone shouting in capital letters. Thanks.
😆
If I’m experiencing pain my fur baby lays on the pain back hips❤😂😂
I've always been around dogs, growing up and having my own family. My dogs have always slept in the bed with us we have an American Stafford Shire Terrier, Reign is 5 now, she has her own covers and a pillow when she can no longer smell Downey on her covers she pushes them on the floor letting me know it's time to wash them. She has to smell Downey on her covers and pillow to be satisfied 😊
Why are you letting your dog sniff chemicals all night? It’s crazy.
Staffordshire is one word.
Our boy prefers a quick cuddle then he is off to his own bed. Between my CPAP and my husband’s snoring and frequent turning, the poor thing likely gets better sleep in his nice orthopedic bed 😂 He does nap with either of us on the couch as the little spoon.
My dog actually has a better mattress than I do.
Our dog loves cuddles x
He wouldn't leave my husband alone, puttinghis head on his back..looking at him constantly.... turns out hubby has stage 4 cancer
they know
So sorry to hear of your husband’s medical diagnosis
I am Praying for you both. Our furbabies knows when there is something wrong. God bless y'all ❤
My dog tells me every night at 5 pm. that it is time for dinner.
One time my boyfriend & I were at his brother’s & it got to be our Lab, Abby’s dinner time - 5:30 - and she started nudging our hands with her nose - my boyfriend said, ok, we gotta go - it’s time for Abby’s dinner & his brother said “oh, now you have to go home when the dog says it’s time to go?” My boyfriend just said “yep, later” & out the door we went -
Sadly, they are both gone now, but the memories will stay in my heart until I hopefully see them again some day
Mine told me it was bedtime - at 9.45 pm. The number of tv who dun it endings I missed ...!
Same! He just needs to realize the whole "fall back" time change thing so right now it's at 4pm lol
Why isn't that number 100%? They deserve the cuddles!
I've run into this while my big bootie pitsky is on me and we're laying on the couch 😂
My amstaff sleeps next 13:33 to me all these days so far lol. I have vids on my channel.in his coastal town in beautiful Australia
I slept with my dog last night after a very long time of her being in the crate. she pressed herself against my back and at one point she ended up next to my face almost breathing in my face. it was adorable
My grand puppy who stays with me now, and three of my cats are usually in the king size bed with me and my fiancé
Yes all six. But I have tried to sleep elsewhere and They just follow me. Haven't slept well for 50 years
lol
My dog is in bed with me now 🤣 but she’s so smart. She knows what I’m saying when she gets my attention. She get my attention, wants me to follow her, and will tell me what she wants by “pointing” it’s so cute
The dog reading 😂❤
My dog always sleeps at my feet, or curled up under my knees when she's scared.
😢
I want to know why my dog WON'T sleep with me but whimpers if I leave to just empty the garbage ? 😂
Wish all peoplr cared about their kids like these do their dogs.....
You are watching the wrong videos. When I was a mother of teens and younger, I loved my kids and spent lots of time with them. Now that I am a grandmother and great-grandmother, I love my pups. So, mind your own business!!
I have a Velcro dog.😏
💝💖💗💞💕❣
My dogs are outside guarding my Cattle and Chickens , they only come in winter , when its below 32 at night .
Our dog loves to sleep on the tile instead of the bed 😂
Thank you for sharing Tess, Jack, Gypsy, and Bo's beautiful story-it’s clear how deeply they were loved and how much joy they brought to your life.
My female crawls under the covers. My male moves around. He sleeps on my many pillows against my head, moves and sleeps awhile against my back and as t some point at my feet. He moves around during the night.
My cane corso sleeps at the bottom of the bed always facing the door. ❤
My dog sleeps at night in her dog bed which is on my bed. During the day she lays on my pillow above my head!

My Golden always sleeps with me and I love it.
My dog goes to the door to let me know when she's ready for bed..haha
Mine loves to be under my sheet and he has many spots he likes. 😂 And he has a stuffy he brings every night to sleep ❤
My dog used to sleep quite happily in her cage at night as a puppy. Then she broke her leg and I had her on the bed so I would know when she needed outside to pee. She hasn’t got off since 😂 But she has her own bed on top of my bed
In America dogs must think 4th of July is the end of the world.
I have a 9 month old 95lb presa canario. I am the little spoon. 😂
My little girl slept next to me with her butt next to my face. I woke up when she farted and she looked at me like I farted and ran off!! 😂😂😂😂😂
My puppy 🐶, has his own bed bed right next to me * he sleeps right next to me * I spoiled him ** I have his water & food in a tray on my bed * He’s my baby * When I leave to work in the morning * he has a heart attack * but, I do have to go to work
I'd actually suggest that when training a puppy, do NOT train them to sleep with you if you plan to have a romantic life.
How?
My dog starts off sleeping on top of the covers curled up against my tummy and eventually goes down to the foot òf the bed facing toward the door.
My dog sneaks up in bed middle of the night . He hogs the bed and steals my pillow and he snores
My bull mastiff takes up 3/4 of my full size bed and that's fine with me. I live alone and know I'm very safe.
I've got two sisters I've raised since they were puppies. You cannot believe the jealousy between the two when they don't get the coveted spot up beside my head? LOL
I share my love equally, and don't ever do any "favoritism" type crap? They both know that they are loved? Yet they will get mad if they can't be next to my head?
Pomeranians rock 😅
I brought her home when she was 11 weeks old. I walked in the house and set her down on my bed. She still sleeps on the same blanket on my bed.
My Viszla has recently taken to sleeping on my bed and my mutt for a while then he goes to his bed. Viszla.... no moving him on the pillow next to me.
My dog sleeps (by choice) in my closet! what does this mean?!! she is a rescue and we got her at 6 yrs old.
She was probably crated.
I have 3 big dogs that have to sleep with me!
I lost the love of my life three years ago she slept with me from a puppy since then i have never slept well
You sleep with the dog. It's their bed now. You don't have one anymore
I stay with my daughter home twice a month and her dog always sleeps with me when I stay???
My dog lays against my feet watching down the hall from the bed while I lay down to sleep.
Smelly Belly, lol, had to subscribe ☺️ I sleep so much better with my dog in bed.
I do too. My son takes mine home with him when I have a Dr's appointment because I don't want to leave her alone. He brings her back the next day . I can't hardly sleep I miss my little shiz tzu so much. 😅
But she has a good time playing with his dogs 😅.
I would like to know why every time I get up either from the bed or a chair my dog jumps in my spot. I don't think it's to keep warm. It may be because of the scent but most of the time he doesn't want to move when I come back until I threaten to sit on him. 🤔
My dog always sleeps on my butt and gets curled up ❤😎👍
My dog sleeps with her butt in my face…….sometimes I wish we weren’t so close
