Perfect ending for an amazing album...finishes it off satisfyingly but somehow gives you the "we'll be back" feeling...that doesn't make any sense ah well
No, I get it. Like, the whole album is an adventure. It has it's fast-paced moments, then it ends on a slow beat, like the band is going to rest for a while.
Thing I love about Gorillaz: I don't like the majority of their songs after listening to it the first time, this one included. But once I give it some time it turns into an absolute masterpiece that I get obsessed with
Thats for sure at least like 40% of their stuff for me, like even tracks I like off the bat only get better after repeated listens, and honestly I can't think of a Gorillaz song I think is "bad" just a few that are maybe not bangers.
Plastic beach and Pirate jet are what I think of when someone mentions the Gorillaz. It blows my mind a lot of people have never heard them. Wayy too underrated, but it’s ok everyone, just keep listening to Clint Eastwood and call it a day.
I know this is a bit late, but listen to "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd. That album ends on such an epic note that never fails to give me chills.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this album recently, especially after the release of The Now Now. To me this song is supposed to be when everybody on the journey to the Plastic Beach - After almost giving up during The Cloud of Unknowing - finally found the plastic beach, and this song is supposed to be them celebrating their plastic paradise together. I can be totally wrong, but that’s always how I interpreted the transition to this song.
I've been listening to this song for days, over and over, and now I think I'm starting to hear the bells at the beginning of the song. Even if it's not even playing.
I always imagined this whole album as a movie. Cloud of Unkowing was the moment where the island gets attacked and destroyed, leaving the gang floating in the ocean, hopeless. Then they get rescued by the Pirate Jet and the band is saved. A happy ending for a big adventure.
Same except I always felt like this song is from the perspective of the boogie man, like it feels like he won and is talking about how it's good for him and the world is slowly turning into a fake plastic hellscape. But that's just my interpretation
i agree. their music especially this album is like traveling through a book/movie. you know the artists have talent when the music can do that. So moving. Amazing band.
Actually the attack of plastic beach is represented by rhinestone eyes, you can see it in the storyboard gorillaz published, and they escaped in separate ways but yeah, this song kinda represents when they escape and/or when they meet again
I know I’m late but I like it more if the point is there is no happy ending. Less of a bow wrapping up a present and more “we’re worse off than we started but we’ll keep going on”
This song is a perfect ending to one of my favorite albums. I always loved how Plastic Beach was sort of its own story and journey and Pirate Jet is the ending where everyone sorta reminisces over what happened good and bad. It's a really weird feeling of Nastalgia that this song always gave off to me
Artistically it makes sense to end it early. Humanity ended Earth early because of what they did to the planet. They had one last drink with plastic cups, and just like our Earth ended there, so did the song. Sends a powerful message, no?
I've always thought of Plastic Beach as a musical film instead of an album, and the tracks are the ost's that they sing every now and then throughout the movie. This is really the best song to end Plastic Beach after everything they've gone through; Noodle's "death", battle against the boogeyman, 2D's captivity and the toxicity that this place has brought to them. It's like a thing that you never want to let go of but eventually you have to because it destroys you bit by bit. This could actually be the heaviest and most traumatic phase they have been through of all. And it makes me tear up that they decided to end this rough but beautiful journey with this song, and the first thing you hear is 2D saying "it's all good news now" and that brings relief to us. This could mean an open ending for this lore but at least for now, we know that they are safe, happy, and contented. They lowkey might be celebrating that this phase has ended because of the line "so drink into the drink". It makes me sad but happy at the same time because how can a problematic lore create the best songs, right? Idk if this makes sense but that's just what I thought of this song being the closing track of this album.
Not only is plastic beach my favourite album, I was also born in one of the plastic beach years. I didn't find out about this band until 2022 but I absolutely loved it. I fell in love with the genres and the music videos and just the music in general at a young age. Plastic Beach somehow feels like a part of me, and I feel like - even if she isn't part of the band anymore and she isn't real - cyborg noodle is my.. how do I say it.. not only idol, but also my best friend and like.. we are the same. I look like her, nearly the same age as her, I'm not sure what nationality she is, but I'm guessing she's British - I have a British uncle ( my aunt's husband) and even if that doesn't make me British, I sometimes used to say I was a bit british when I was a child. Noodle (the real noodle) looks like me as well (considering cyborg noodle is a clone of her, and I look like cyborg noodle) and we both had a pretty weird childhood. I cut my wrist-long hair just because I fell in love with her messy haircut (I know, a bit stupid) but I also don't regret it that much. My name is Nayeong Park, and I hope this comment gets read by Gorillaz ❤️
Just finished the album. It's a really well rounded album and I can easily see why this is highly regarded among fans. While I still prefer the sound and songs on Demon days, this tops s/t in consistency. Wasnt a fan of Superfast jellyfish or sweepstakes though, but that won't stop me buying the album
Like much of this album, Superfast Jellyfish and Sweepstakes grow on you with time. On my first listen, these two songs were a bit of a sore. A couple listens later and both songs became one of my favorites on the album. This album ages like a fine wine.
Sweepstakes does feel out of place the first time you listen to it but it grew on me. Superfast jellyfish you gotta listen to as part of the whole album solely because of the transition form it to Empire Ants
Idkw, but I always have this wave of emotions that make me happy and sad at the same time whenever i listen to this song. It fills me with warmth because it reminds me of good times i used to have with my dad where we would just sit down and listen to them whenever we felt sad or just didn't have a very good day. So I always close my eyes and end up shedding a tear here and there without meaning to.

I'm so mad at everyone in the comments because all I can hear now if a bunch of different "buy her a jew" and "aw you're a jerk" and "viral jelly" instead of pirate jet and I had to keep myself from wheezing in front of other people.
The fishermen look on in horror as the sea just beyond the dock bulges outwards. They do not think, do not speak. They are stripped to the most primal of fear as they watch a creature most horrifying emerge from the depths. The sky is dark and thunder cracks, lighting the ever-warping flesh of the disfigured monstrosity. As it heaves its weight out of the depths, the water levels seem to sink. It's as if someone was emptying the oceans themselves. The creature screams with many mouths and many voices. It raises some of the many appendages that support it and takes what can only be called a step towards the dock. The fishermen finally move. Not fast enough.
This song is awesome. The first time I was singing it I was almost in tears. I can't know what came over me but the power in 2D's voice is so astonishing.

will never forget seeing gorillaz at glastonbury 2010. I was 13 with my mate and this song was playing as we were holding a blue inflateable sofa above our heads trying to get through the crowd, I'd been to 2 glastos before that and 3 more after and only seen it packed like that once since.

The intro makes me feel like I'm at a cloudy and grey beach, and I'm with my friends. Then, boom, the synth hits, and dark and grey war ships start to arrive from the distance, and all we can do is stare.
I recently broke up with my first ever girlfriend after 2 and a half years, it was difficult but I decided to not cry and go on a solo trip to Rome for half a week. I found this random visual effects/digital media festival and took about 6g of shrooms for it. It was amazing I made random Italian friends and lost my mind staring and these laser and hologram exhibits. I hired an electric bicycle to get back to my hostel afterwards and this song came on. I was just blowing kisses at these random ruins and just falling in love with life again. I must've played this song 5 times in a row, still tripping and never stopping smiling. Thank you Damon for that, I doubt anyone will read this and I don't care if they don't either I just felt I had to tell someone.

this song makes me wanna become a pirate, i'm picturing myself on a ship holding my sword with wind breezing through my pirate clothes. And it sounds like a whole army of pirates are coming to attack an island or village.

Yea short for their standards they normally do like 4 mins or something like that
probably because of stylo
Never have I heard a song bring perfect closure to such a hefty album. It's the perfect "wind down" that would fit on the end of any mix of songs.

Incredible experience hear this song live when come to Chile
The intro makes me feel like I'm at a cloudy and grey beach, and I'm with my friends. Then, boom, the synth hits, and dark and grey war ships start to arrive from the distance, and all we can do is stare.
Ive heard almost every other Gorillaz song, but somehow, I only listened to this one for the first time today, and its amazing. I love it so much.

As an Italian, I am happy you found happiness in our country, also hope you are doing mgihty fine, were here for you
-greetings from sicily
0:00-0:19 reminds me of music from Don't Starve.
Plastic Beach is the perfect album to listen to while playing the Shipwrecked DLC.

Gorillaz es una de mis bandas favoritas, Damon Albarn es un genio, un verdadero artista 👍👍👍

It's all good news now
Because we left the taps
Running for a hundred years
So drink into the drink
A plastic cup of drink
Drink with the purple, the people
The plastic eating people
Still connected to the moment it began
It's all good news now
Because we left the taps
Running for a hundred years
So drink into the drink
A plastic cup of drink
Drink with the purple, the people
The plastic eating people
Still connected to the moment it began
even though this is kinda old I sit every night listening to every album and this one and demon days is my favourite
this song makes me wanna become a pirate, i'm picturing myself on a ship holding my sword with wind breezing through my pirate clothes. And it sounds like a whole army of pirates are coming to attack an island or village.
This song makes me wish i was blind, dont know why

Don't to NFT'S, be the change.
Makes me think of a cloudy day at the beach.
But now that I think about it a lot of songs on this album do.
I love this cuz even though the album is about pollution, this song kinda sums up how even with all our trying we're still doomed so whatever
This is a wildly underrated song. The beat, the noises, the music, the lyrics, 2Ds voice, everything is perfect!
