Can't believe this isn't on an album. As evocative as anything on Exile or Whipsmart, and those were masterpieces.
Seriously, is everything she touches magic? Amazing heartfelt personal pain, shared to make it better. Sublime.
The question is - why isn't this great song on an album?
I'm right there with you. I'm a 32 year old METALHEAD, and i'm talking DEATH metal. But, I've been a HUGE Liz Phair fan since I was 16. She a very under-rated artist.
Truly. Even more underrated guitarist.🤘🤘🤘🤘
Liz Phair back when they knew how to arrange and record her songs. Lovely.
Always loved this song! One of my absolute favorite songs of hers. And an excellent video, to boot! The footage around the minute mark or so, with all of the red on the street, kind of looks like blood to me...or the blood shed from this relationship that's gone awry. This song should have been on that album - I wonder why it wasn't? Is it because the sound of the verses are reminiscent of Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze?" Liz always was a good thief.
I agree with everything but the Summer Breeze part. Down isn't remotely similar.
@@isometric2008 You don't hear the similarity in the cadence in the way they sing the verses?
S&C: See the curtains hangin' in the window
In the evening on a Friday night
A little light a-shinin' through the window
Lets me know everything's all right
Sounds a lot like
"Butterfly / lets her wing brush past your shoulder / I know you know her around / by the way she's so familiar.
Could just be me.
Wikipedia. Lol. I know too much about Liz Phair, but she is my favorite musician ever... She changed the way I see the world. And I'm still a teen (and a boy) so it's kind of weird that I find her so amazing. (at least to my friends)
11 years later, i find this... haha... not weird to me, she cuts through life like a hot razor, like no one else. Great animation!
Yeah this is a nice melancholy song.. she's great
I used to LOVE this song when I was in a Liz Phair phase.
truly mellow...one of those rare songs that makes me feel ok
a great video wish i could get it on itunes
Let it ride, let the wind blow past my shoulder
Let the road like a ribbon unwind and
the pain of it make me older
That's poetry, or something better (to me)
Takes me back. 🎼✌
I love this song
I feel like this song marks a turning point in Liz Phair's career. Seems like she decided after this that it wasn't worth it to write songs drawn from personal, often painful, experience. So she decided that from here on out she'd make a living singing generic pop songs, and keep real life out of it.
It sucks so much. I miss Liz.
the energy of this girl is so much better than sex is kind of a soul energy I dont know ITS SO BEAUTIFUL! thumbs up!;D =D =P
DolphinsSpirit: You either haven't had sex before or have only ever had bad sex, but I get what you're saying.
No record of her ever performing live
this could make chuck norris cry =( it touchs my soul
I think she wrote this to cope with the collapse of her marriage
I actually gave this song a second chance, even though I've heard some way nicer songs from Liz Phair. This is really sad though...who would want to cheat like that? I'll never understand people who do careless shit like that.
She was the one that cheated. I wonder if this is from the point of view of her ex husband. VERY NICE :D
good catch!
How do you know she cheated?
she wrote about it!
@thefunnystuffplease 2001
The chorus is wack!! Come on, we all know she could do waaaaaay better!!
