In 10 days, I will be 88. I am so blessed because we lived with my Grandmother and I slept with her for 16 years until her death at 87. She was amazing as she never had been to a dr., never had a prescription drug, never took an aspirin, never had a surgery. I was surrounded by older people in my naborhood and interacting with them, respecting them, and doing errands for them was a normal part of my childhood. My grandmother (Babcia) was my other Mother. The biggest difference between my Grandmother at 87 and me at 87 is our outward appearance. Im like Nanny with makeup, jewelry, and stylish clothes. My grandparents were immigrants from Poland who came to this Country with nothing except courage, determination, perseverance, and strong work ethics. I am so proud of them.

Your grandkids are very lucky to have such lovely and lively grandparents! Three of mine died before I was born, but my mom's mom, Daisy, lived to be 96, and was the kindest most lovely Nana to us all. Nothing like a nice tomato sandwich, with salt! x

I have always been very attuned to the needs of older folks!!! My husband’s paternal grandmother lived with us from 1981 until not long before she passed away in 1999. She suffered a debilitating stroke in 1981 which left her unable to live alone any longer. Our daughter was just a toddler when she came to live with us, so she was able to experience so many wonderful times with her great grandmother. Our daughter was a freshman in college when Grandma passed away. Sherry had learned her letters and could read simple words and write her name even before she started kindergarten because Grandma spent so much time playing with her and making a game out of teaching her the abc’s. There is absolutely very much that can be learned from older family members. Our daughter was enriched beyond measure by having her great grandmother in her life every day.

Hello Nanny! I loved your perspective on aging and how we can help our grandkids to appreciate us and realize we have much to offer. I think society in general writes off those who are elderly; youth is highlighted so much in this world. But your perspective on how us as grandparents can be fun to be with, not just ones who need to be cared for. As we age, we face many health struggles, but having the right attitude and I don't want to become a crabby, negative old lady. I will be 65 soon and I feel pains and problems getting worse so it can be a struggle to keep positive. My husband is dealing with a serious lung condition as well and it is so hard seeing him struggle. I so love your videos! They keep me encouraged and keep me going and I especially enjoyed this one Nanny! We have a new grandchild (our first!) he will be 1 year August 22 and I want to be a positive, and fun grandma for him. Thank you for your words of wisdom! Keep the videos coming! They sure do help and encourage! Love to you and Moosey!🥰💝💕 Geri

I so enjoy your videos Nanny. I've been away for a bit helping hubby with two surgeries in five weeks. It's a lot as you know how that can be. Love your dress, it looks so cool and light and airy.....nice for the heat! You look lovely with all your turquoise on. Love it and love the layering as well. As your grandchildren greet you and pitch in, we also have grandchildren who do the same. Very blessed and they were all raised being very helpful and respectful. We've always traveled with them or they with us as it usually is and love to do so with all the kids to reunions and the like.
Enjoy your sun, my tomatoes are just now flowering here in the PNW and I don't see any fruit on them yet, so I may not get any unless we go into an Indian Summer mode. I love those. The tomato sandwiches remind me of growing up........yummy so good. That and some of my garden lettuce sounds good for a warm summer evening....perhaps a stick or two of bacon and some avocado slices as well............yum yum.
Blessings to you and Moose and enjoy summer as you can...........wishing I lived closer to San Diego as we used to. It was always a joy to travel down and go to old town and just sit by the water. So so beautiful!

Hello dear Nanny! Another great video. You and Moose have such a wonderful rapport with all your children and extended family. This intimacy comes from your own example and interaction with your children and grand kiddos. Not all relationships flourish such as this for many reasons which is sad. The old adage "Children learn what we live and the examples we set" rings true. Being present and interested with our children and grand children is key to the relationship. There are too many absent parents who have put their careers and self ahead of the nurture of their children and the time and intimacy that it requires. I never knew my grand mother on my mother's side as she died quite young and I was not close to my paternal grandmother who was distant and busy with her life. I believe it is and must be a choice to interact and nurture these relationships. Analogy....a plant without sunshine or water dries up and dies , such are relationships. As the continual care of a garden, feeding it, watering it and a commitment to its growth and flourishing is essential to growth so are our relationships to our children, grand kiddos and friends. YES! I love a fresh tomato sandwich...on crusty bread and some mayo! Ok, I have arthritis....but I'll deal with the possible stiff joints! Ha, ha...I saw your two wrist watches! Love the one with the wedding photo! What a lovely idea..."Time shared" All for now...time to pick a tomato and make that sandwich.....Hugs from an arthritic nana in Pa. :)

Good morning Nanny and Moose. Thank you for another interesting video. Speaking of attention, care and love that younger people give to older people, from that I know from experience and from seeing what happens to parents and grandparents in this country, it’s very sad. My generation was like yours, the attention given to our parents and grandparents was like that, they always came first with much love. Today the youngest people don’t care, they only care about their needs and well-being and their parents and grandparents only serve to satisfy that. Attention and affection it’s very rare to find, which is I admire your family so much. Love you Nanny. Have a nice weekend. God bless you all.

I like to stay busy and that helps soo much. I think partly it's all in the attitude of how we age. Having a good attitude is so important. I always loved talking to my mother ,asking her questions about her life . My grandparents weren't around but I got alot from my mom. I took care of both my mom and dad until their health started failing. I would do it over in a heartbeat. I miss them so much. You will never know how much I respect, enjoy you and love you. Very interesting video, Nanny. I like how you include God and his plan for us. You are so lucky that you have that wonderful grandson of yours, Dane. I was able to be around my daughter and son-in-law's children for most of the time when they were growing up and my had the same curiosity and said she liked the veins in my hands, of all things. My husband and I are still very close to the 3 of them and they are in their 20's. On the other hand my son and daughter-in-law's children who have always lived much further away have a much different relationship. I so much loved my grandma and she really looked old as far as I can remember. I only wish I asked her more questions about her past. I was 15 when she passed. My older son likes fantasy baseball too.

Thank you so much Nanny! I ordered the alarms. I understand your problems with the heat! Our summers here are always too hot, (I stay in a lot) and I always look so forward to autumn! My poor grandmother was from Denver (grew up on Long Island Sound), and when she tried to visit us here in Texas in the summer, she didn't tolerate the heat at all. The heat just is harder on us Golden Girls, I think. I too think it's important to educate kids about the aging process...they need to understand why we are changing. Your Dane is a real gem and a super fantastic teenager! ☺🥰Thank you for a great video!

Mary Ellen, I was a nail technician for almost 50 years and I noticed that nail (Left hand middle finger) several months agon appears to be a fungus and you really need to cut it down and apply some anti-fungal treatment on it. (Kerasol) is good. Some fungi can spread to other fingers as well My suggestion would be to keep the polish off your nails until that heals. Also, keep them really clean and wear gloves when you do outside work in the garden because the bacteria in the soil can be very damaging as well. I hope you dont mind my comments and suggestions. Love your videos and I hope this helps you. God Bless. Nancy H

Hey Nanny - another great video! You look adorable in that hat, I love it. I absolutely adored my grandparents - my maternals were five hours away and owned a gentleman’s dairy farm. I would visit for a couple of weeks in the summer and have a ball running around the barn with the cows and Fred the foreman. In the winter, we would visit, and would ice skate on the pond with our cousins. I wish we had lived closer to them. My paternals lived in the same town as we did, so I was with them a lot. Grandma taught me gardening, cooking, sewing, painting and playing the organ. She later gave me her baby grand when I started formal piano lessons. She made me my first bikini (McCalls pattern) for running through the backyard sprinkler. Did you know James McCall was Scottish? Remember Betsy McCall cut out paper dolls in the McCall’s magazine? Having such a great love for them easily transferred to an affection for older people. They are so wise and they have such great stories to tell and wisdom to share. I’m glad your grands see that in you and Moosie. They are so lucky that you are putting a lot of your stories, family occasions, memories and wisdom in videos. Plus, those books you did for your kids are priceless. I wish I had something like that now. Nanny, you have such good ideas! Did you get to look on Amazon for those readers with blue light blocking? I just got two new sets and they are oversized and really cute. I have always had oversized prescription glasses, I just like the look. I hope you are sleeping…that B1 complex surprisingly is helping me a little, not every night, but any progress is good. Stay cool, don’t over do, and keep hydrated. Sending love and blessings to you, Moosie and Shamu ❤❤❤

@@crushingtheir80snannyandmoose - I remember the Vogue patterns - that must have been so much fun, you are such a good seamstress. I’m sure it sounds funny, but when I think of Scotland, i don’t think of department stores, I think of seaside villages , lush green pastures, beautiful cottages, sheep in the road, and those shaggy Scottish Highland cows. Lol, kind of like the movies! I always wanted to go. I was named after a Scottish song, one of my Mom’s favorites, “Annie Laurie ”. I hope you and Moosie are having a nice weekend❤

In a family such as yours it can be possible but not all children have the same attitude towards aging 😊

My granddaughter says I am squishy. I tell my grandchildren that if I wasn’t old I wouldn’t have them, and I’m squishy because they need to sit on my lap and get the best hugs, and the squishy grandmas feel so much better. We did all our grandchildren’s child care. We are very involved with them still. I want them to have cherished memories of all the time spent with us.

There is research to support what you say, Nannie. Children that have a positive relationship with their grandparents while growing up adjust to their own aging process better than those who haven’t had this wonderful gift in life. Also, young people who decide to become a geriatric nurse/doctor or a gerontologist usually have had a positive experience with their grandparents! It matters!

Nannie, do you have a farmer's market near you? It's a great place to get delicious tomatoes of every kind, AND you can save the seeds of your favorites to start next spring and grow your own.

Hi Nanny your video about aging was interesting. Just like you when I was young I always enjoyed talking & being around older people & now I'm one . On a totally different subject I.ve been trying to buy the large combs you've showed & used many times .Know it's an Amazon item & I've purchased a few but never the exact ones which are a Great Size. If you could Please give me the name of the product it would be appreciated . Thank You

Nanny do you have a farmers' market near you.. I live in West Virginia, and they always have tomatoes grown locally. I live in a townhouse and no room for growing vegetables. so, the Farmers Market helps to get fresh vegetables. I too have arthritis and boy do I love tomatoes too. We can just suffer for a short time to enjoy a great tomato sandwich. Love you both.
