We are heading in the right direction and with leaders like Dr.Bawumia at the helm I remain very optimistic about Ghana's future. My problem with the digitization process is how little anyone speaks about the security and custody of the data collected. Ghana is using foreign internet and service providers who have in the past openly shown disdain to our concerns and sensitivities as a nation. So what oversight tools and protocols do we have in place to supervise their activities and protect our data? Is there any insurance to pay for any hack incidents, interruptions of services or stolen/misuse of our data? Do we have any plans to transition to a government operated or Ghanaian owned service providers? Thirdly, which branch of the government has control over the data collected and what system is being set up to prevent the domestic misuse of said data. Shouldn't we require that requests for data by foreign countries and entities gather a three fourth parliamentary approval or something to that effect? Digitizing our system is obviously the right way to go but we must learn from the difficulties other countries have faced in their attempts. I know for a fact that Ghana cannot request or demand data from any British system because they rightfully consider the mined data a sensitive state material. Maybe we should learn from them.
