The happy blob is not in a cage. If you read it's SCP entry you'll learn that it is actually free to roam the facility. They use it to keep many of the personal happy and to calm down other SCPs. There's a lot of very good and wholesome SCPs.

Actually the Happy Blob [SCP-999] is one of the Scarlet Kings [SCP-001] kids, the Scarlet King is a K-Class scenario or End of the World. But you guys would love the SCP world & games

The blob isn’t being confined, it’s technically a child so it still needs someone to take care of it.
There are other groups in this universe but the Foundation is the safest one by far. Everyone else basically just tries to either destroy, sell, or use the anomalies for themselves.
I would highly recommend getting more into the SCP universe, it’s really interesting, and one of the greatest community writing projects to ever exist imo
Also there is no set amount of SCPs because they’re still being written. Anyone can add an SCP, and if it gets approved by the community, it will become cannon.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 If you want clinical readings of SCP Entries. Thevolgun is the guy. If you want personal interpretations, audio book style narrative, and the discussion of philosophical themes within SCP entries, do The Exploring Series.
Volgun gives the feel of clinical horror that SCP strives for. Exploring series does a good explanations of lore as well.

At current there are just over six thousand entries in the SCP Wiki.
As for who started it, I believe the very first SCP entry was 173 which is a statue that moves when you blink and its only purpose is to kill people by breaking their neck.

Bear in mind 'Safe' classification does not always means it's harmless, and 'Keter' doesn't always mean it's deadly.
Safe - if you can put it in a locked box and forget about it
Euclid - if you gotta check the locked box every day to make sure it's still inside
Keter - if you gotta regularly replace the locked box and possibly put it in another locked box
Thaumiel - if it is the box.
Good examples of safe are the aforementioned 999, 529, and 530.
529 is a cat, named Josie. Seems completely normal, until you see her back half no longer exists on this plane of reality. This does not affect her in any negative way. However you must not give her cheese. She gets very ornery if you don't give her enough.
530 is a dog. It is capable of growing and reabsorbing various limbs and features, making it's weight, number of legs, eyes, mouths, noses, etc, always vary wildly. He is very affectionate, and regularly plays with 529
530 and 529 are adorable SCPs 😊
There are currently over 6'000 SCPs, everything from a teleporting chair that helps people who need to sit, to an unkillable giant lizard that wants to end all life.
The teleporting chair is hilarious. Some of these scps are just super creative 😀

The SCP foundation is one of my favorite communities on the internet. The amount of love and dedication to this on-going universe is absolutely amazing and every time I find myself on the SCP wiki, I end up spending hours upon hours poring over every entry and its supplementary material. I genuinely enjoy the video you reviewed, since it is a very consumable and beginner friendly introduction to the SCP universe; bonus points for having the vibes of *actual* "On-Boarding" material for the agency.
For SCP animations, I recommend Lord Bung
+ "Confinement" series is always a good place to start
"Hazbin Hotel - Pilot" and/or "Helluva Boss - Pilot"
+ Both come from the same studio, "VivziePop" and are excellent animations
+ "Helluva Boss" series is actively on-going if it catches interest

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 If I had to take a stab, the series is being produced in conjunction with a much larger studio and NDAs have been choked down as part of the contract; hence why no more teasers/trailers or media content for Hazbin Hotel.

I personally hate these particular videos when it comes to the SCP foundation. The drawing style is just not made for it's type of content.
EDIT: I don't hate the authors of the video, I just mean I don't like their art as I think it doesn't properly convey the horrors of the SCP universe. The things they have to say about the SCP verse is all good.

My favorite is SCP-2030: "L A UGH IS FU N." A reality show that has terrifying and bizarre "pranks" where all the contestants are people considered dead or missing. They are terrifying and traumatizing...until the host introduces himself and everyone has good laugh. Even when missing their _skin._

The happy blob isn't locked up, he's allowed to roam freely in the facility. The reason why he's kept there is because not only does the foundation keep the world safe from SCPs, they keep (useful or peaceful) SCPs safe from other dangerous groups that want to use them for bad stuff. Good example would be Cthulhu (yes, there's an scp called Cthulhu).
Hadn’t thought about them keeping the SCPs safe. We are glad the happy blob gets to roam free and is kept safe from anybody that might use it for nefarious purposes 🥰☺️

Since you are completely new to SCP, I believe watching videos from The Exploring Series might be helpful. He usually summarizes & explains some SCP stuff. As for articles & tales, I highly recommend TheVolgun & SCP Illustrated. They both read them with some voice acting. Not sure if you two might get bored with Volgun's videos though because they are usually more chill. The Exploring Series also read a few tales. It might be too early for you two to dive into tales though.

I would highly suggest looking into the SCP-001 entries. There are multiple, and all of them are terrifying in power and context.

If you want to check out more SCP Stuff beyond the Short Movies, I recommend The Exploring Series, SCP Illustrated and The Volgun.
The Exploring Series does Summaries and Explanations of SCP Content (so probably the best for people who are new to the Universe)
SCP Illustrated does Readings with Self-made High Quality Illustrations
The Volgun does Readings with a Focus on High Quality Voice Acting.
At the moment there is no Animation Channel i can recommend (apart from maybe Lord Bung's Confinement Series, but that has a completley different purpose), as they do skip important stuff or simply present it wrongfully way too often. For example in this Video right at the start they say that the Woman is tortured by "Death-Row Prison Inmates, the absolute worst of the worst" - However the SCP-Article specifically states, that for Procedure-110-Montauk (which they simply summarize as "Torture" in the video) "Violent criminals are not to be used [..] due to the possibility of accidental fatality during the 110-Montauk process."
I'd recommend that the next thing you watch (apart from the short movies) is one of the Introductions by either The Exploring Series (ua-cam.com/video/R9hv6NsWndM/v-deo.html) or The Volgun (ua-cam.com/video/G6QVvBIBZLc/v-deo.html) and after that i'd recommend to hear a Reading (for example by the Volgun) of the "Ethics Committee Orientation" (ua-cam.com/video/9Z0YMJUaNrw/v-deo.html)
The Number of SCP's is a number that is very difficult to specify. What i can tell you is that the Main Site (the english Wiki) recently held the SCP-6000 Contest, so there are probably at the moment a bit more than 6000 SCPs on the english wiki. However there are also SCP Wikis in other languages and while some of the SCPs are on multiple wikis, not all of them are. My guess is that if you count non-english SCPs we have at least 7000 SCPs at the moment, as the english branch is by far the largest, but not the only branch.
This Number however doesn't include Tales - which can be almost anything that isn't an SCP File, most often Short Stories.

Just one thing to add: You might want to read the SCP Wiki's Licensing Guide (scp-wiki.wikidot.com/licensing-guide), specifically the "UA-camrs" Section of the "For Specific Creator Types" Category. It could come in handy, if youtube's algorithms ever decide tofuck you over for "reused" content, as the legal statement provided by the SCP Wiki should be able to protect you from this.
Why the happy blob is contained in a building:
The happy blob has a dark origin, the most dangerous and cruel SCP the foundation dealt with had a cult called “the children of the Scarlet king,” there were 7 members and all 7 were pregnant. When the babies were born they became the most dangerous monsters the foundation dealt with.
One of the babies that were born were the happy blob. The blob, also known as the Tickle Monster, was unique, as it seemed to make anyone happy, cured depression, ptsd, and so on. It got it’s name because it loves innocently tickling people.
It is said that the Tickle monster will grow to be a powerful and defeat the strongest scp.
However it needs to be kept safe from the world, so that it doesn’t get lost or somebody doesn’t eat it out of curiosity

One thing about SCPs ("skips"), they by nature break reality. They are glitches in the programming of reality. Let them be free and go wherever and you risk a system crash. That is one possible explanation of why the Foundation does what it does. And that first Special Containment Procedure (they love to reuse that acronym) has some interesting lore behind it as well. ||Dig deep if you dare!||

Exploring series is great for scps
He does a good job of summarizing scps and they're great to listen to if you're doing something
He also explains some obscure stuff or things that might be hard to understand at the end

Just something to note, because how the wiki is, canon in the SCP universe is a bit loose. Generally the only real canon is what's writen in the SCP files themselves but, even then somethings don't match. In the end, canon is subject to head canon, everyone has their own canon.

the happy blob is contained but also protected because its theorized to be the only thing capable of stopping The Scarlet King, a godlike being that will destroy the world if it can cross into our world. Not too sure of the details but thats what i do know. Its best the blob isnt released. They treat em well enough.

One of my favorite SCPs is a 3 piece set designated SCP-738. It’s basically a desk, Chair, and slightly less fancy chair, but when the subject sits in the less fancy chair, an entity appears in the other one and will attempt to make some form of deal with the subject in exchange for a ‘payment’ (kind of like a deal with the devil). If a deal is made, it is followed to the Letter precisely, but because of how things can be spun contextually, the foundation doesn’t let anyone with an IQ above 60 seriously make deals, or anyone who isn’t severely mentally handicapped because of the implications that they’re too stupid to cause major damage. One time they let a lawyer sit in the chair on his own choice and after 41 hours, they had to rescue him after he collapsed from exhaustion because he was working out the intricacies of his deal, and at the time, was determining the meaning of the word “shall”. The deal had grown to over 900 pages long, and he was found with a note that basically said “please come back some time. I haven’t had that much fun in years”. It’s heavily implied the ‘entity’ is in fact the devil, but can only be seen when you’re sitting in the chair. This is why each piece is kept in its own cell

I'm a big fan of SCP. This whole concept goes really deep and the creativity to everything is almost ridiculous. If you were to make videos on everything SCP related you'd honestly have enough content for about 10 years, it's crazy!!

There are a lot of SCPs that are so absurdly powerful, not only are they a threat to humanity, but also to the universe as well.

3rd day: man i'm not suprised
So this is a decent rundown of what the SCP Foundation is in-universe. Out of universe, its a collaborative fiction story writing database of sorts, with a few rules about writing style and tone to make stories about these scientists researching horrifying or fantastical stuff. At the moment, the wiki is starting to fill up the 6000-7000 mark for individual SCP stories, with even more by the way of tales. Anyone can write an SCP, you just need to submit it for community review and if they like it enough it can get published on the site.
The tough part is that a lot of the story telling works its best in the written form, some articles cant translate to video very well although some can and do. The Volgun does straight readings of SCP stories, very faithful to the original work. The Exploring Series is my favourite, as he delves into a bit more depth and reads between the lines for his viewer's benefit, since some SCPs can get a bit complicated. There are a few more high quality fan films too like SCP Overlord, SCP Unremarkable and 096 which are very good, and spooky.
As for favourites, as a long term fan I tend not to get fascinated by your run of the mill monster anymore. SCP 2845 (THE DEER) is a large deer that feel from space and has godlike powers, and it boasts the most complicated containment protocols to keep it locked up. But there's a twist to it, and I highly recommend The Exploring Series' video on it to explain it fully. SCP 093 (The Red Sea Object) is a classic and one of the first stories with exploration logs to get stuck into. SCP SCP 4231 (The Montauk House) is a tragic and terrifying story thats kind of like WandaVision. Except if it was two Wandas capable of bending reality that shacked up... And one of them was a horrible abusive partner... yep. SCP 3004 (Imago) is a story about an entity that 'eats' human faith, and has latched itself onto Christianity to feed on it. Its also a giant cicada. There's also a collection of stories grouped together called The End Of Death canon. It's exactly what it sounds like; what would happen if one day all animal life could no longer die? Spoiler, its pretty horrible.

Fun Fact: The Blob is supposed to be able to grow up and defeat “The Scarlet King” it’s said that if the The Blob goes near him or looks into his eyes it can change The Scarlet Kings way of life and make him into a happy being therefore saving mankind
For your information the whole SCP thing started on 4chan /x/ bord in 2007. Also SCP stand primalery for Special Containment Procedures although the motto, Secure Contain Protect, is accepted as a second definition.

Just to answer your question, it is believed the Administrator started it all. The Administrator is above rankings of even the O5 Council and site directors shiver in terror just to hear the name. There are actually around 1 million SCPs and probably even more that either consist in other universes or planets or are yet to be discovered and contained.

The plague doctor has always been my favorite SCP, just one touch and you're dead. Considering how I'm just a really big believer, I'll always say that the SCP Foundation is real, even though it's just a bunch of fan art and fictional stories all put together. But what if the wiki is a SCP itself that manifests these works of fiction into reality? Just sayin.

More like recruiting them. That's the GOC who destroy anomalies. The Foundation's top priority is the study and containment of anomalies. Not destroy. Anomalies that has earned the trust of the Foundation, or has shown compliance for most of their stay in the Foundation, are given permissions or privileges to roam the facility or request items to be given to them. Some of them might even be employed by the Foundation. One example is a reality bender who was employed as the Site Director of Site-19. SCP-105, Iris, was recruited into the Foundation's MTF. And many more SCPs that were treated fairly. They simply contain anomalies because they don't understand the anomaly. They want to make sure the anomalies don't cause any disruption to the world. The Foundation is one of the only organization that protects anomalies. Not like the GOC who destroy anomalies - the Chaos Insurgency who enslaved and weaponized anomalies - the Marshall, Carter & Dark Ltd who sell anomalies, etc.

It gets all kinds of confusing with SCP 001 though I think the one titled "the first scp" is the actual first scp and the one who started the entire keter class. There are plenty of youtube channels as im sure you're aware of by now that explain different scp's. SCP Animated Tales From the Foundation is a particular favorite of mine because it has this Doctor in quite a few videos, name Dr. Buck (she's awesome in a kind of cold way). Another favorite is Detective void, he's just fun to watch in general. But, I believe that first scp is only on Dr. Bob's channel. Could be wrong. I would love to see you guys' reaction to that video and scps 049, 053 and The Infinite Ikea. Honestly, I would explore all the animated channels you can find, always love to see that the art of 2d animation is still popular and in practice. and ya might find a new favorite scp channel XD

Like someone else said, they're not evil, just cold. They wouldn't kill Wonder Woman or Superman. If anything they would try to get them to work the SCP Foundation in securing and containing anomalies, as well as be sent to combat certain hostile entities. I think chaotic good is what they would be described as lol (I might be wrong). They're only concern is making sure the world stays nice and safe and intact, by any means necessary. Gotta keep in mind that they're the only thing between us and the apocalypse in quite a few cases lol
Another good SCP to read is 914. It doesn't seem like much at first. But then read through the 914 experiment logs. They are equally hilarious and horrifying!

I know this is old, but if you're still looking up SCPs, SCP-1337 is an interesting story of WHY the Foundation values containment over neutralizing SCPs if possible.
SCP-3301 is just... amusing, then weird, then the fridge horror sets in.

You guys should check out some analog horror. Stuff like ALEXKANSAS or The Mandela Catalog videos. Lots of short and 15 minutes-ish videos that would make for pretty good reactions.

1:40 she’s the last and final survivor of a terrible and awful Eldritch ritual, all of the other girls when giving birth died due to the monsters they “released”.... they tried to perform a premature C-section on one of the girls and it acted as if was birthed anyways and just went on a rampage.
No one knows what’s being done or how it happens, just that it’s the worst thing that can be done. Likely due to the red king which is the kinda asshole demon/eldritch being that wants into our universe just to destroy it. Not for any moral reason, he’s not the avatar of death or decay or the end of the universe... he just likes to destroy shit.

What you guys call the Happy Blob, SCP-999, isn't being held against its will. In fact, it's the safest thing in the foundation, and is the only anomaly allowed free reign to wander the facility wherever it wants to go. The reason it cannot leave the facility grounds is for its own safety.
You see, the pregnant woman being tortured is actually his mother, the torture thing was a lie seeded out among the staff, because the father of 999 is the worst SCP ever, the Scarlet King. He cannot be contained and he's waiting on the news of her giving birth to his seventh child. There were six other girls that along with the last one are called the Brides of the Scarlet King. They were kidnapped from their families and impregnated by the King, and all the other ones died giving birth to monsters. One of them is that dangerous indestructible reptilian, SCP-682. Anyway, old SK knows what goes on everywhere at every time, in all dimensions. So, when he gets word of this false story of torture of the seventh bride, he has to wait until he hears otherwise. Then he will take his progeny and destroy the world and/or universe. What he also doesn't know is that the final child wasn't a monster, but a hero. The little guy is only a baby. The SCP Foundation are protecting and raising him until he's old enough to take on dear old dad in the final showdown at the end of the world.
