I can't seem to even turn on the pairing mode - just bought it, I just tap and hold for 5 seconds but cannot hear the automated voice :( been trying for over an hour now
They sound great I’ve been comparing them to my sennheisers but my only gripe is the inability to have both volume control and ambient sound control on the buds. You have to choose which functionality you want control over :/
If you set up the google assistant you can say "hey google...(wait for beep)..."reduce volume" or similar. Works for me but I know what you mean.

I agree. Ideally you want 3 functions: 1) Volume + & -; 2) Switch between Ambient/Noise Cancelling; 3) Play/Pause (stop & start) but you can only assign ONE function per bud which means you can only choose TWO. As far as I can work out I can't have ALL THREE which is annoying. I don't want to have to talk to Google every time I want to stop or start or turn the volume up or down.
@@adamkay3610 it's not a difficult feature to implement either. They had it on the Samsung buds plus where the edge of the bud acted as the volume control, was a very good idea, wish Sony would implement it
Just got these yesterday coming from galaxy plus buds (just wanted to upgrade for no reason) and in my environment it's enough of an issue that I may have to return them. Really bummed because it seems so easy to just let us customize how we want to use the buttons. I can't even voice activate Google with the galaxy plus, so being able to do that with these was awesome, maybe I'll try using it for volume control, kinda lame workaround though
Buttons are difficult to use, especially triple taps. Triple taps will often register as a single tap plus a double tap, or a double tap and a single tap.
I bought them and I just returned them to the store. I loved them, I really did. But they just were not comfort. I could make them not to fall but the pain in my ear was not worth the money. So I’m waiting for the xm5 version to be really comfort cause almost everything else was great on these earbuds. Also when you open the case it feels loose. The ANC is awesome, the look is great, just the fit was my main problem.

This one of my only gripes with the XM4s, why only allow setting left and right to presets instead of giving us the ability to set functions to each input method. It would easily be possible to have Volume control, ambient sound control, voice assistant and playback control all assigned at the same time.
Hi, We'd like to confirm that you can change the function assignments to the touch sensors of both the left and right units using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. For example, the music playback function that is assigned to the touch sensor of the right unit in the factory settings can be changed to the touch sensor of the left unit. You can also change the settings that do not assign the music playback function, noise canceling function, Ambient Sound Mode and playback volume adjustment function. why not we can do all together as in the other buds such as sennheiser. it needs just an button map update. let us choose what to do with one tap two taps or three taps... so wecan do volume controls, playback controls, and ambient controls at the same time. as in the sennheiser or jabra etc. isn't there any way?

Can I use all options thru taps and touches? like play/stop, next/prev, volume +/-, NC on/off, ambient sound
so for example:
play/stop - tap left
next - 2 tap left
prev - 3 tap left
volume up/down - long press left / right
NC on/off - 3 tap right
ambient sound - 2 tap right
No that's wat sucks
I'm not impressed with the confusing Morse code operation of these (and other) devices. The industry needs to develop across the board standards for tap control so we're not using different codes for every device.

Just got mine last week and I'm really happy with it. Before this I was actually still using the wired ones. Hahaha gotta buy the best for my first wireless earbuds

What I find frustrating is that you can't turn them off without putting them on their case. When you turn them off with the app and put the EarPods somewhere that is not into the case the battery still drains and let me tell you that bs about automatic turn off in the app does not work either. Maybe I am the only one having these issues... let me tell you it is the most annoying thing about these expensive EarPods. I should've bought the Boss ones instead.

Are there controls for skipping ahead a certain length of time for something like podcast listening? I wouldn’t want to skip to the next podcast, just skip ahead so many seconds and go back so many seconds.
Depends on your podcast app but typically it will skip ahead 30 sec and 10 in reverse

So bulky, i can't run with them, fhey move out of my ears. Beside verrry cheap a$$ plastic quality that they are made of even the box is a bad quality plastic. Sound quality is more into bass, clarity is not as good as some other brands ij this 300€ league. Anybody knows how to turn the touch off. It rubs all the time to my hoodie and stops the music. Such a nerve racking thing

I had fitting issues but the sound is very good, my only issue is after a couple years the battery life is pretty poor. You pay a premium price for this and expect the battery to last a little longer than it actually has! Have read about various issues elsewhere with this & its disappointing that Sony don't care if its out of warranty - the customer has to pay to fix this 😞Firmware update was difficult - kept crashing? Disappointed with Sony customer service who mentioned there was additional 12 months assistance to send in and get it repaired - just a shame Sony or the retailer didnt inform customers of this.

How do I adjust or turn off the touch? Ive just been out walking my dog and its raining so I have my hood up...every time I moved my head the hood touched the earbuds and kept changing tracks and other things instead of letting me listen to music...very very irritating

However, can you try to test the headset with other devices and check if the same thing will happen or not? I’d suggest bigger ear tips. There is also a function that measures your ear to determine what size would be good for you. And you should squeeze the foam ear tips down and let them expand in your ears. Hope this helped reply if it did please!

Can sony send us any update for buds which allows us (users) to customise button or touch control as per our own usability.
Because only thing which is not comfortable to use in buds is touch or button controls.

I have white noise machine on. The headphones block most of it but the earbuds don't do anything . When u put ambient its more loud when u put noise cancelling the same as if u didn't have in. Disappointed. I remember wired sony noise cancelling buds they block a little when noise cancelling on and no music playing threw

I just bought them 2 hours back the sound quality is not that great but I am not having ldac support need a good quality sound setting
The touch controls really need to handle wet fingers better. Tapping them with even the tiniest bit of moisture alway registers as holding instead. :(

Just bought it and controls are just awful. I can't have all relevant controls on one bud (play/pause, vol up/down, next/previous track) if the ui was done right i wouldn't have to think about what hand i use if i want to pump up or down the volume. The buds aren't usable independently from one another or you have to chose do you want to be able to control the volume or do you want to be able to stop the music (sounds pretty dumb don't you think (i know i can pause the music by removing the bud from my ear it's just too much hassle & pretty stupid too)). I come from the huawei freebuds pro 1 and the implementation on them is so much better (at least from the design perspective (force sensors have their problems too)). So i'll allow myself to make some suggestions. Instead of making a touch button and have to play Morse code on it make it a bit bigger, it doesn't have to take all the surface but needs to be big enough to allow swipes and make the buds truly independent from one another with complete controls on one bud. And in the app please allow me to choose what every move does (presets are good but honestly i don't care about the voice assist like a lot of people) hope you can improve this product. These awful controls ruin the buds usability.

The headset pauses or mutes the music being played and captures the voice of the person you are conversing with on the microphones to make it easier to hear. It does not sound different between modes, only difference is back round noise, if any disappears, like cabt hear faucet running, bathroom fan or ac units for example works great.

@@SonyEuro ah I meant that sometimes you can use Bluetooth headphones and the phone's camera app. When you tap the headphone it acts as a camera shutter because on the camera app, volume down is a shortcut for camera shutter on both Android and iOS

I have a number of TWS but these wf-1000xm4 are my favourite. The problem is that after a year, the right ear piece battery only lasts 45 mins which renders them useless. Great whilst they worked properly though. £250 for a years usage is a bit steep.

I like that if you remove either earbud, the other one goes mono. But then you only get taps for that bud. Wish swipe up/down or around (on bud) controlled volume.
Mine pause if you remove one. No mono
@@pdfortune I get pause sometimes (not always) when it switches to mono, so I have to press play again, or just wait and it continues, but it definitely goes mono on single bud, left or right, I use it all the time like that.

Since the right unit is only available for usage cutt.ly/n1Dciat. this means that you have the Touch Sensor Control function set to [Playback control] on the right unit.
