    The Planet of the Apes is my all time favorite franchise along side with Star Wars. I love them both with the deepest of my heart. I've seen all the films, the TV Series and the animated series many times. Looking at your ranking, I am pretty much in agreement with you on the ranking, except for one. When it comes to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the Original 1968 film, I am in conflict. Both of them are my top favorites. There is almost no way around it for me. In the original, not only do we have outstanding acting by Carlton Heston, Roddy McDowel and Kim Hunter, but we also get Maurice Evens as Dr. Zerius. Maurice Evens life long work has been Shakespeare on the stage and he brought an element of that into this film. Moving along to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Andy Sarkis' best BEST acting. I mean well he is an amazing actor overall, but his performance in this was out of this world. So it's just a conflict for me between those two. As to being on the bottom of the list, Battle for The Planet of the Apes. I couldn't agree with you more. It is the weakest of all the films. And it didn't have to be. Yes it was the lowest budget of the films, but it could have had more with such a limited budget. I think what happened at this point in time is that they got lazy and just wanted to pull out another film. Not to mention they had Paul Williams in the film. There just could have been more with it. Escape from the Planet of the Apes is one film I adore. I just love to see them in our time running around with humans and dressing up and socializing. I loved how when they asked Zira what her favorite fruit was and she replied "grapes" after she drank the glass of wine.

    Escape is more similar to the novel with the main human eventually becoming a celebrity among the apes.

      It was called war because only one side could’ve won

    Terrible!. You put the new movies first in the ranking just because you think that CGI gives it a better look, when in reality the CGI looks intangible, it looks fake, it makes it look like a video game image. It's ridiculous that even the trees are made with CGI because they look fake. The CGI does not surpass the realism of the makeup of the original films, which evidently looks tangible, and evidently the script and the dialogues and the performances are superior, especially Charlton Heston.

    • @MovieFusion
      @MovieFusion  2 місяці тому +2

      1) I didn't rate those movies higher solely because of the CGI
      2) I think the CGI looks much better than the practical apes (despite the practical apes still looking very cool). CGI and practical effects both have a valid place in the movie industry and should both be used where needed. Apes are very hard to do practically to make them actually look like apes. None of the OG movies have apes that actually look like apes. They are all very obviously humans in ape costumes. Which works fine for those movies because they are meant to be apes that act as humans now. But most of the CGI in these recent films (especially for apes like Maurice) looks life-like, which is needed, given the fact that these apes are meant to be ACTUALLY like recent apes that just got smarter.

    Odd choice. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of the worst movies I've seen. Bad story, bad directing, bad casting. I tried watching it for a second time recently but could only make it half way through. So bad. Planet of the Apes 1968 and Rise of the Planet of the Apes are the only two worth watching. The rest are studios milking the success of the two mentioned.

    • @MovieFusion
      @MovieFusion  2 місяці тому +5

      Would love to hear some specifics about what you think was bad about the story (and the directing/casting). Very curious to hear your thoughts.
      Also, I feel like it's hard to say they are "milking" this franchise when we've only gotten 4 of them in the past 20 years. They took a nice 7 year gap between War and Kingdom to make it as best as they could. If they really wanted to milk it, they would've rushed it out in under 2 years.

      @@MovieFusion I saw Dawn when it was first released and remember being completely disappointed with it, especially after really enjoying Rise (I was familiar with the 1968 Planet of the Apes so I picked up on the clever choices they made to tie in to that). Like I said, I only managed to watch half of Dawn recently so I can’t get into specifics about the last half (I don’t remember it from the first watch, years ago, which suggests nothing memorable happens) as for the first half, the casting is terrible, the lead role is played by a nobody actor who has no charism whatsoever, he’s so anonymous I don’t even know his name (I do recall seeing him in a Terminator movie, he played John Conner and I had the same underwhelming experience and bafflement as to why anybody would choose him for any lead in anything) his character in Dawn just stands around endlessly staring and hardly saying anything. It’s especially bad casting given that Gary Oldman is right there playing a secondary character (who choses the nobody for the lead when you’ve got Gary Oldman?) As for how some of the story plays out, there’s some contrived nonsense that’s supposed to make the audience care about the characters that we just met because some people who the characters knew died at some point before the movie. then somebody gets trapped in a pipe and the apes help. Then the humans help the apes with a difficult ape birth. And this is after the humans just strolled into the ape camp and walked straight up to the ape tree house with no difficulty after previously being told to stay away and having apes in their face. I might just bite the bullet and “hate watch” the last half. lol. With regard to milking it I was talking about Dawn and War which were made soon after the success of Rise. I haven't seen Kingdom yet but I've heard it's way too long.

      @@AHPal-ji6oj I don't really see how an actor not being extremely popular is considered a negative for the film. Sometimes I like seeing "nobody's" in a movie. I don't wanna always see the same actors all the time. (Regardless, I personally think Jason Clarke is pretty popular, just not the most popular actor ever).
      I don't think his performance was incredible or anything, but it didn't really have to be, he did a fine job. The movie wasn't really about him. Caesar is ultimately the lead. Malcom (Jason Clarke's character) is just meant to be the human equivalent the Caesar (the peacemaker).
      I feel like this is actually one of the least contrived movies of all time. Everything that happens feels earned and organic. It's not really contrived that a lot of the characters lost their family members due to the virus considering the virus killed millions (or perhaps billions, I don't know exactly).
      Malcom did have trouble strolling up the camp. They literally stopped him and it's what led Koba to eventually check out more about the humans (including seeing all the weapons they have), which later leads to Koba's attack on the human city.
      I am honestly surprised you don't remember the 2nd half, because that's where the giant battle is (one of the best shot battles in my opinion). Plus, Koba's betryal, Caesar vs Koba, etc.
      Lastly, I definitely wouldn't call making two sequels to a successful film "milking". The term milking is usually used for franchises that keep trying to make more stories out of something that doesn't really have much story left, all because they know it's popular and want to make more money out of the story. Rise of the Planet of the Apes was made with the intention of sequels. Dawn/War are certainly not examples of milking a franchise. They are simply just sequels.
      We can definitely agree to disagree. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. Thank you for sharing.

      @@MovieFusion No worries. But just to be clear on the milking it issue: The originality only exists in Planet of the Apes (1968) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Everything is explained and tied up in those movies. There’s no originality that’s occurring in the other movies, ergo, it’s just milking it.
