    That skinny unstable dips bar almost got Romano a lifetime snap city ticket.

      Jed agree. He had to move to the parallel bars.

    This was atrocious. Between Bertrand's chinups not being counted and Romano's dip station not being secured this was really poorly coordinated.

    • @hughjanuss5963

      He wasn't locking out his arms on the chin-ups.

      Yeah, I'm not a fan of wrecking your elbows over time by locking them.

    • @miikeV33
      @miikeV33 8 років тому +24

      It had nothing to do with the locking out, if you noticed, neither one of them locked out. The missed counting was due to the chin not being over the bar. However, this is still an atrocious competition because I went back to see the other guy and most of his pullups were incomplete as well. They were definitely focusing on the black guy though for the pullups.

    • @RussMootsey

      what video were you watching bud? the black dude only went down 2/3 the way down for the majority of his pull ups. if anything, they shouldn't have counted even more of them. his form was a joke and he deserved to lose.

    Unfortunatly, this was one of the worst strength war battles so far.
    It was lost for Bertrand before it even began. Romano had 10 Pullups under his buckle, before Bertrand managed to put on his weight belt.
    I think, the ability to put on a belt shouldn't be a factor in strength wars ... both athletes should heve started with the belt already on!
    Second, the Ref who judged Bertrand was much harder than Alexander, who judged Romano.
    Bertrand had to do at least 30 Pullups, while Romano came away with some pullups looking exactly the same like the ones, bertrand got counted as a fail.
    Of course, that took time and cost a lot of power.
    Nonetheless, Romano would've won, as he is great in Dips and Deadlift ... and +50kg dips is way too much for bertrand. A few month of training is not enough to
    reach such high levels in these two exercises!
    If it would've been muscle ups instead of pullups, it would've been a lot closer.
    Because i guess, Romano isn't able to do them as good as Pull ups!
    But well, it's strength wars, so it's still a thumbs up ;)
    Waiting for the next battle!

    • @DirkBernauOppendorfGrindhouse
      @DirkBernauOppendorfGrindhouse 8 років тому +2

      ***** Yup, bertrand wouldn't have been able to do proper Deadlifts in an adequate time.
      I can't judge his endurance, but his overall strength is way too low for that !

    staging a STRENGTH WAR in front of a huge audience had been a awesome experience, though almost everything went wrong.
    judging was simply not possible because it was so loud. a dip stand broke because romano forgot to fix the position in advance... well... we all enjoyed that battle but the next STRENGTH WARS will happen in a more controllable surrounding again.
    we hope you like this more chaotic, back-to-the-roots-episode anyway!

      Thermin Ator the power lifters chin did not completely clear the bar for A LOT OF REPS but yet he was getting cleared for reps unlike the street workout guy watch even the guy clearing the powerlifter gives the other official a ify look when he sees why he isn't clearing him

    • @CharBuilds
      @CharBuilds 8 років тому

      Point blank the street workout guy would've destroyed him in pull ups which would've gave him a lead in dips he would've won that then it would've maybe been neck and neck in deadlifts if the powerlifter wasn't tired not to mention why didn't they both just start with the added weight already on instead of him struggling to put it on in the beginning

    • @CharBuilds
      @CharBuilds 8 років тому

      If that be the case then they should've had separate pull up bars for them and again started with the chain weights on and explained the arm needs to fully extend at the end of the day I wanted to see a real comparison not mis haps and could've should've stuff but I believe even if he fully extended he still would've destroyed him in those first two movements pull ups and dips that's his bread and butter when it comes to calisthenics

      @W4ldgeist 8 років тому +13

      +JAMES J. JEFFERS The point in a pull up is not the chin over the bar. Romano has different arms and can't get as high up. Also the "chin over the bar" is not the challenge in a pull up, but the full hang and pulling yourself up from that position. The upper portion of the pull up and how far you get over the bar depends on your muscle volume, shoulder, lower vs upper arm length etc... and has nothing to do with a "good pull up". If you pull up to a lock, you did a proper pull up. The rest is bullshit. Bertrand got fails for not locking out on the way down and for jumping up into the pull up. Romano did neither of those things.

    • @JAMESJJEFFERS
      @JAMESJJEFFERS 8 років тому +4

      Waldgeist I understand the "Correct Form" of a pull up. My brother is a Trainer as well in competitions. So No it's not about the chin over the bar but it is and should be about "Correct Form" as you pointed out. In a Fair contest the Bar would be adequate length for Both individuals to have a full extension as well NOT the same height for Both individuals. Next neither Guy performed an "Actual Perfect Form Pull Up" from the beginning. So We can agree to disagree but I respect your observations..Thank you and many blessings

    The street workout guy did 15 more pull ups thanks to the bad buzzer and his arms were blown out, the power lifter did at leas 6 pull ups where his chin never passed the bar and got no bad buzzer everything after that did not matter because it was not fair.

    I'm only halfway through but I know they didn't call anything against Romano and 2 of those pull ups didnt go all the way up. 5:39 and 5:49. They were at the same height as Bertrands towards the end and his were fault.... That being said you can't bring a street workout to a powerlifting battle..... seriously if they had at least one exercise that involved cardio and power like muscle ups or something then this would have been a fair assessment.

    • @TrillNoel
      @TrillNoel 8 років тому

      I'm not judging any of that. (He did almost double the number of pullups because pretty much every one was counted wrong =exhausted) I don't want to argue that side of it because its very opinion oriented. The fact that they didn't do a single cardio-intensive exercise is my focus. Its like putting an mma fighter in a boxing ring. He can't use 50% of what he spent years training. All of his dark magic takedowns and grapples are gone and he is forced to do 36mins standing as opposed to 2 standing and 13 on the ground.in mma([joking]. The boxer has trained to push like the marathon runner whereas the mixed martial artist has trained to sprint the mile. Anyways in this I would have considered it fair and understandable if they would have had them do something involving running laps or an obstacle course. The exercises here are endurance and strength as opposed to stamina and resistance. It wasn't necessarily geared towards both participants. They need to take a lesson form old school Olympic competitions. Every one of their videos has a challenge that is simply controlling a medium/heavy weight X amount of times. I am waiting to see them take an exercise from both worlds and then compare them with a random or middle ground for the 3rd. It is like spreading camaraderie... You fight like a Samurai I fight like a Mongol... we gain respect for eachothers craft only after trying our hand at it.

    • @TrillNoel
      @TrillNoel 8 років тому

      dawid6866 he might have actually been able to do the rest of them but literally gassed out redoing pullups that should have counted. (When you compare the other guys pullups that were of the same height and not at fault.)

    • @405bench8
      @405bench8 8 років тому

      cardio intensive? have you ever done weighted pull ups and dips? LOL Its mostly all aerobically dominant. He did indeed do almost double the amount of pull ups, however they wearnt counted because he didnt start from a dead hang. It was betrands own fault that he had to do more pull ups, he didnt do them properly. But any how, both of them are beasts.

    • @TrillNoel
      @TrillNoel 8 років тому

      To answer your first question about dips = imgur.com/jR6kaSa also boxing for 6 years.
      And yeah I still don't get whether or not the pull ups weren't counting because of chin level or base level?
      By cardio intensive I meant something one sided. All exercises other than 1-3 rep heavy pretty much can be called some form of cardio. I'm talking about something that is based on your agility, stamina, finesse, and speed. Dips have strength, power, endurance, and force as the main focus. When I said that above I did mention I'm talking about all of their videos in general. They don't have one so far that contains a variety that basically would pit each person weakness against them. Or basically give each person "turf advantage" for one round.

    Why did Betrand have so many pull-ups uncounted? I'm confused because at first I thought maybe it's because they were not "dead hang" pull-ups but now I'm wondering if this was rigged... The camera angle almost never looked at romano... it was almost exclusively looking at Betrand. And the only thing I picked out that he was doing I guess technically wrong in some of the earlier reps was that they were not "dead hang" pull-ups. And almost all of Romano's reps were "dead hang" pull ups. I still think this is a little fishy....

    this is one of the worst videos from #strengthwars. how can they both do pull ups on the same tiny bar? Bertnard was at a disadvantage. he's taller, hence his grip has to be wider, hence his difficulty. get your stuff right, it was really a poor video.

    • @xSergioLJx
      @xSergioLJx 8 років тому +2

      +Bukar Abdullahi well you are wrong , to start with when doing pullups if you grip is narrower they turn out to be easier to be done also bertrand chose the starting grip while romano was resting so if the grip wasn't wider it was because he didn't choose to do so (my english sucks btw).

      This! As a 6'6" guy with a 7'3" wingspan, it's a LOT more difficult for me to do anything with my arms than it is for a guy who's 5'7"-5'9"... People want to talk about the ROM not being right on black dude's reps, it's because the bar isn't height appropriate! The white cat with the smaller arms couldn't even get his chin over the bar most of the time! This contest is bullshit at best.

Wjat sealed it for me tjat the whole thing was going to be one hell of a shit show for Bertrand was the last pull up allowed for the Pole that sounds like a German.😂 Sorry i don't remember his name while typing this. But i can't beileve they allowed that pull up and disallowed Bernie's earliest pullups when he was fresh. Clearly a cheat tactic designed to drain his sap. Nicely done cheats. Looked ligit but i can smell bullshit a mile away. Might work with some folks but not me. Anyways next. Tjis shit os canceled. Bernie at least you got yourself a good sweat out of it. so why wasn't he extending the elbows?

    • @DivineAtheistWannabe
      @DivineAtheistWannabe 8 років тому +1

      He didn't extend the elbows because he's taller than Romano therefore he has longer levers.
      He's moving himself a greater distance and doing more work even though they may weigh the same.
      So what they did before the competition was to measure the weights of each competitor and fat % and length of limbs. They put that into a calculation to see at what angle Bertrand's pullups would equal a dead hang from Romano i.e. at which angle they would be doing equal work. Then they had special detection equipment to measure the exact angles of each competitor's arms to see if they reached the minimum required when extended.
      Whenever the competitor did not reach the required angle a buzzer would sound and that would be counted as a no-rep. This is why it sometimes seemed that Bertrand's reps shouldn't have been counted when in fact they were, and the same or vice versa with Romano. It is too complex for the naked eye to see and for the human brain to calculate instantly.
      This was a really organised competition. It's FIBO for goodness sake. The entire challenge had been planned to the last detail several months ahead. It ran like a well oiled machine and there was nothing that went wrong. Absolutely seamless battle. One of the great ones. One for the history books.

    Bertrand gets his ass kicked in every challenge he does. I mean this one wasn't even close. Also, for a calisthenics expert, he got a TON of red lights. He should start trying to do pull-ups, dips, etc in a weighted vest. The increased weight will help with strength levels.

    Have you guys watched the video and do you know what proper pullup form looks like? Some of you seem to think pull up means get your chin over the bar in which ever way you can. If you want to learn how to properly do pull ups, search on youtube for "proper pull up form". Both athleanx and calisthenicsmovement have great videos showing proper pull ups. Yeah, there were few questionable ones from Romano, but even for those it's hard to judge because of the angle at which this was filmed. Look at Romano at 4:33. That is full range of motion, when you go down you are supposed to lock out you elbows completely, that is a proper pull up. Now look at Bertrand at 4:42 and 4:50. He gets about half way down and then does another "pull up". If you've ever done pull ups you know that this makes them much much easier, but also makes them not pull ups anymore, at least not proper ones. Bertrand is a calisthenics athlete, I would assume he knows how to do pull ups, so he either doesn't, or he did them like this on purpose to make it easier for himself. Also look at 6:16, 6:58 and 7:04, I can't be sure about this, but it sure looks like Bertrand is using his legs a bit and jumping into pull ups and he gets credit for them. Like I said, I can't be sure, but it sure looks that way. Either way, if you want to talk about unfair advantage, Bertrand had unfair advantage. Also, Roman did get advantage by putting weights faster, but only about 20 seconds, he lost about 45 seconds from his dip station malfunctioning. So Bertrand got total advantage there as well. Had they perfectly judges this, Romano would have finished all three exercises before Bertrand finished just pull ups.
