Rap is basically musical poetry. In a way, it is more boring, but it puts more emphasis on rhythm over melody. It's like saying drums are more boring than a piano because it doesn't prioritize melody (which is a point that can be argued; people would rather listen to piano solos over drum solos).
Of course, you may just be referring to a specific type of rap. The modern, mainstream version.
