Loved the video, very entertaining ! I know nothing about UX so it would have been cool if you'd elaborate more, as why it was strange to have rounded corners mixed with sharp edges, even though I kinda have the same feeling !
    Keep up the good work

Thank you for your feedback, that’s a very good point 🙏🙏
For your question- consistency in both UX and UI is very important to create a good and balanced experience.
The harsh contrast between sharp and very rounded corners is not easy on the eyes, it looks unbalanced and our eyes and brain are attracted to symmetry.
If you look at apps you use daily, you can see that all the buttons, for example, will have the same radius.
They could’ve rounded the sharp edges of the corners a bit (ideally match the frame radius) and make the bottom radius WAYYYYY smaller to match

That means you were not around when Cowon came into the scene. I think they still have a horrible UX and UI.
Nonetheless, I agree with you on every point you made.

I love the confidence with Yael Talks about something she has no context about, with just the information she has from a third party video. That's some secondary research

hey i am an industrial product designer and kind of offended, that you assume UX would belong to UI. This products has a shitty design OVERALL! :D - UX touches all of us, and we all should know how to design good experiences. what do you think the scrollwheel is? Its an interface, a tangible interface - and in this case its shitty.
So here are my additions to why this design is bad (from an ID/UX View ;) )
    - no cmf contrasts (no different colours for highlighting important things, no material or especially finish details) the scrollwheel has to have a knurling or pattern of some sort, and haptic feedback (either physically or through a voibration motor)
    - there are obvious material defects like sinkmarks or defects in surface quality that couldve been avoided with a better surfacing design (without adding major cost)
    - material choice is just bad. glossy cheap looking plastic doesnt give any futuristic or premium vibes. It looks like a fisher-price toy ... honestly
I am as upset as you :D - especially since it was designed by the team at teenage engineering who can be regarded as some of the product design (UI, UX, ID) geniusses of our time ...

Sorry I didn’t mean to offend anyone haha 🫢
Love your comment! So many things I didn’t even think about!
And I absolutely agree on that teenage engineering comment, I think the bigger picture would be- why the decision to have a non touch screen- and the entire design would’ve supported all the reason they’d come up with…
But this design is just not it…
I feel really bad for them ngl 😭😭

@@ItsUXgirl me too. I think TEs original vision for this product got really deluded by some other factors during product development (most likely cost and dev time) - at least this is what i want to think ;)
On a design note - i really like that it is not a touch screen but a voice an gesture only device. This adds to the not-a-smartphone narrative.
And i do like the UIs aesthetic vision. But I would've suggested to do a one-line display like on an old-school calculator instead (3 lines would be okay too ;) )
Or completely change the UI to somethig that clearly is not touchable. The way they did it feels very inconsistent.

But doesn't UI also exhibit aspects of UX? I don't understand your statement. Saying that UX would belong to UI, is not a totally wrong statement. Nothing to be offended about.

    • @jom1439
      @jom1439 4 місяці тому

      @@frozenheart30 No not necessarily.
But it's a vividly discussed topic, since the surge of digital products. The terms for product design disciplines along with responsibilities and expectations got very unclear.
So also just my two cents:
UI Design focuses on the visual aspects of the interface (layout, colour, buttons, screen flow, ...).
The design of user experiences requires a much more holistic (and macro-level) approach to understanding a product's interactions, usecases and patterns.
in the case of the R1 the UX (product) designers would think about aspects like how the device integrates into existing use cases, cross-device usage, ergonomics - thinking from purchase to recycling through the lifecycle of the product and defining the core requirements for all other design disciplines.
UX Design often doesn't even look like design but more like science ;)
Of course some UI and Industrial designers are UX designers too, but not necessarily.
