    I learn from UA-cam videos better than learning from an institution

    Kudos for teaching "needle first". Virtually every other demo video I've seen says to do it the other way. However, if the perforator is not straight, screwing it into the septum can create a hole that leaks. I've been doing it your way for 30+ years!

    When I want to replace my carpule I notice that it always leaks when I remove it. What am I doing wrong for this to happen?

    I have a question..
    If the needle cap isn’t translucent
    Do we have to remove the cap to see the droplets come out????

      No need to do this, the doctor will uncap the needle and expel some solution before injecting the patient.

    Can you explain the different needle colors and when they are used?

    • @StephanieDerfus
      @StephanieDerfus  3 роки тому +8

      Great question! The 2 most common needles used in dentistry are 30 gauge short (typically blue cap) and 27 gauge long (typically yellow cap). The higher the gauge number the smaller the diameter. Smaller needles are more comfortable for the patient, but they are more flexible and are typically used for infiltrations - which only penetrate a short way through the tissue. The thicker 27ga. long needles are used for mandibular blocks, because the needle has to penetrate thicker tissue for a longer distance.
      Keep in mind manufacturers can choose what colors to use for their color coding systems.

      @@StephanieDerfus thank you so much! I recently started a dental assistant position at a general dentistry office so I’m learning all I can. This helps a lot!

    So the dentist will tell dental assistant what anesthetic cartridge he would use?

    • @StephanieDerfus
      @StephanieDerfus  3 роки тому

      Yes, usually dentists have a preference based on the arch. My original dentist preferred articaine on max. filltration and prilocaine on mandibular block, so I always knew what he wanted. Now I occasionally work with volunteer dentists and I always ask first before assembling - many of the new dentists I work with prefer lidocaine.

    This is wrong way. You will bend and block the needle by this way. You load the anesthetic first and then the needle.

      How do you reload a carpule when the doctor needs to add more anesthetic? Do you take the needle off, insert a new carpule and reinsert the needle? Genuinely curious. I know there are 2 ways to assemble and I'll make another video showing the way you mentioned.

      The glass carpules of anesthetic are one-patient use only.
