Tino deserves a lot of credit for performing at a high level for a long time. Imagine the pressure that he was under succeeding a player like Don Mattingly, one of the most popular Yankee players of all time.

i had a man-crush on Tino when I was little. Tino Martinez and Paul Oneill were always the favorites of Yankee fans in those era, more than Jeter and Rivera.

Grand slam against the Padres was the loudest ive ever heard that stadium...and ive been to a lot of big games. Sat next to 2 red sox fans and the look on their faces was priceless

That 2001 World Series loss to the Diamondbacks was a heartbreaker especially because of 911.

Going into the 1998 World Series, I struggled finding a favorite player on the Yankees. There were so many, but when Tino launched that go-ahead Grand Slam in game 1, I knew then he was my favorite.
Though to be fair, he may have been struck out on the pitch before....
That pitch is irrelevant because he could’ve been struck out on what should have been a ball instead; happens ALL the time in baseball.
The #1 homerun is a no-brainer. One of the two most magical baseball moments I've ever witnessed (Brosius doing literally the same thing the next night being the other). That moment is actually the reason for the 24 in my username. (Followed by the 18 for Brosius.) I still get chills every time I watch those homeruns.
Lets also remember when Tino had 8 homeruns in 8 games in 2005 when he came back to the Yankees. My favorite player growing up. Had the chance to see him pinch hit in a game in 05 in a comeback win, he got a single. Which led to the comeback. Such a dope moment.

The Homer against the Padres may be my favorite childhood sports moment. Yankee stadium looked like it was about to collapse when he hit it. Padres knew the series was over after that beast. They never recovered mentally
I remember jumping all over the room when he went yard. Couldn't wait to talk to my father who was at the game...Til that point he really struggled in the postseason. They benched him the WS for Cecil Feilder .
I GOT TINOS AUTOGRAPH DURING 2001 WORLD SERIES YANKEES D BACKS HERE IN PHOENIX.. RIGHT AFTER HIS BIG HOMER OFF KIM TO TIE IT.. HE WAS WITH HIS FAMILY.. I COULD TELL HE DIDN'T WANNA BE BOTHERED.. SO I SHOWED HIM MY NY TATOO ON MY RIGHT SHOULDER.. HE WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO GIVE ME HIS AUTOGRAPH FOR MY MOM

I took a great picture of Tino hgiting a homerun. One can see ball coming off the bat. I was into photography then and I couldn't believe the picture when I got it processed.

The game against the Padres in the 98 WS. In the previous pitch to Tino was given the Homerist call . The ump swallowed his tongue 👎and called it BALL it was a F-king STRIKE right down the heart of the plate. Home Plate UMP collected his pay off shortly after the game. 💸💸💸😡

you got that right! the yankees were so just down right scary good in October...being a Seattle Mariner Fan I was broken when he was traded to the Yankees..but then :Boom" I was an instant Yankee Fan! lol!!..
If don mattingly never got hurt or retired early. Tino never would have played for the yankees. 2001 was also an emotional year.

@@danielbonner8309 That was just the gist I had. I'm a lifelong Yankee fan since my Dad took me to Yankee stadium in the late 60's. I always felt that without players like O'Neill, Martinez, Posada, Bernie, the Yankees would not win many more World Series and that proved to be true. Your thoughts? I always thought O'Neill was the true Captain of the Yankees, the "fire in the belly". I'll never forget that "sending off chant" they gave O'Neill that night when it was his last time playing in Yankee stadium. Memorable!

All the guys you named are superstars in the eyes of every real Yankee fan. We know how valuable those guys were and they are greatly appreciated. Oniell is my all time favorite only behind Mattingly. Remember the 🎯
@@danielbonner8309 Mattingly was great but not a leader like O'Neill. Let's leave Derek out of this discussion because he was an "affirmative action" Captain of the Yankees. O'Neill was the true Captain of the Yankee team that just won five World Series in a short span.

led the team in homers with just 28 and 1998 and we all know how that season turned out. now the yankees only want players who hit .200 and 35 bombs a year. it's sad
