I know it was a coincidence of procedural generation, but the minefield/gun line being pointed *at* the ruined evac shelter instead of away from it is A+ environmental storytelling.
Another banger episode. I'm not super familiar with cataclysm beyond the early game, so the sudden shift into eldritch horror actually caught me off guard.
I was really caught off guard by an encounter with a mysterious impossible shape that hurts to look at or think about, followed by shooting it with a gun until it collapsed; I wasn’t expecting an Otherside Picnic reference.
I got into Cataclysm because of your videos after finding my way here via Fear & Hunger. My current character is a former landscaper who woke up in a mansion basement. There were a pair of feral humans wearing suits of cheap plate armour down there -- poor quality, but impenetrable with the gardening machete he still had on him -- so he had to desperately skulk his way around to find the stairs up, stuffing whatever handfuls of food or small practical tools he could find into his pants along the way. He had no combat training, only decent physical fitness from the manual labour of his job, so any scuffles he got into would be a trade of flesh for space. He stumbled up the stairs and out an open window, sprinting into the forest until he was sure he was no longer being followed. He had a little food on his person, but no potable water. He'd have to simply limp through the trees, up a road and along a hiking trail, and hope he found sanctuary before sunset. He was immensely lucky to find an abandoned hunting lodge. There's something enchanting about the way this game creates those little organic storytelling moments.
Nestor's negatives was the game's way of saying "Never play without 'Disable NPC Needs' ". That'd be one hell of a challenge character though, and my love of smocking racks might just push me that way.
Loving it. Nestor got smacked half a map tile and gets up and comes back for more what a fucking dude. Last time I had a brute wallop me it sent me through 2 layers of sandbags and a window. Thank fuck for US Army vests and Sapi plates.

When Mel started feeling a pulse, I expected it to be some sign of an infection, that she might have gotten infected by the big, beefy infected that nearly took her and Nestor down. I always love when cdda randomly does setup and payoff. With the newspaper -> storm thing. I’ve never actually been able to find the center of the storms before, kind of a shame it’s just another vortex enemy haha. I think I saw people talk about how the storms had good loot but I think maybe they were lying.
No, it is not. Worm Girl just randomly shot an ordinary enemy ("absence") way after the actual storm had ended (see wheather field by that time) just for dramatic effect. I bet she tried to find the center, but had no luck this time.
The storm moves so getting to the center of the storm isn't always easy now. And Rycon just did an episode where they entered the eye of the storm. So it's definitely a major thing.
What an incredible episode. The moment with the zombie that walloped Nestor and whatever the hell was going on with the Impossible Shapes and the portal thing got me REALLY tense. Loving these videos so much

Wow I cannot BELIEVE the perfect foreshadowing in that portal newspaper. I started my own playthough a few days ago. Haven't in years. Portal storms didn't exist back then. One just hit me as I played earlier today. Was... an event. I love things like that. Reminded me of vintage story. Then you got one haha, great timing. Glad I got to see it on my own unaware first. I wound up killing the absence too. No idea that was what ended it.
You got some good luck with that Brute. I usually flee those bastards until the mid game. Late game, they're not much of a muchness, but then again they come in with Onii San Kevlar Hulk and Ojisan Skeletal Juggernaut ready to isekai you out of this life.
The latter part of this video just goes to show that the soundtracks for both Fear and Hunger games are super effective at delivering a surreal and oppressive atmosphere
It looks so bad! The exterior tiles all do this doubling thing to make it so you can't walk diagonally through the vehicle, but there's got to be a less ugly solution.

@@utropic7380 The car keeps a version of itself saved in memory which is always pointing straight north, and the code can call upon those XYZ coords relative to the in-game ones, so that the game always knows which tile is which even as the car moves around. I think a check could be added whenever anything steps onto or off of a car tile that tries to see if that movement would be possible while the car was pointed north. If so, the movement would fail. This would allow diagonals to block movement without doubling the walls. The other method would be to make it so that all tiles could optionally diagonal movement in adjacent squares, and simply apply that to car walls if there were two adjacent to each other. Not sure which would be easier, but both should be possible.

This is some very complex hardcoded c++ and would require working on the game itself. If you're interested, it is open source and anyone can take a crack at it.

Updating a current series without making sure you have a backup save isn't a great recommendation. Most long running series makers don't update unless it has a major fix they need. Only Vormithrax would update before each Stream Cause he's nuts and does short (sorta) runs. But he's on Hiatus atm.

msxotto+ for the tiles. For sound it's usually @'s soundpack, but here I was using cc-sounds for some reason.
