If this young lady hasn't met Steve yet I hope this makes the connection. It is really neat hearing Steve Martin covered covered. Maybe if he finds this subscribes the algorithm will deliver some viral magic for her. She deserves it for all the warm banjo tones she has delivered to my feed this cold winter.
What a wonderful sound! Open Back Banjo music is almost like a leaf or a feather 🪶 being tossed by the wind... it is soothing and so pleasnt to listen to, and you play it so well!! Thanks Phoebe!!
@@susansanders9159 oh my gosh so on that same theme, I just found out my mama just started her own UA-cam channel to document her journey learning to train horses. She deeply loves animals like I do and it’s so cool. youtube.com/@juliewallace6673
As someone that's just bought my first banjo, and have never played a musical instrument before, what a beautiful video to sit and enjoy. I tended to listen to faster tunes, but that is just delightful and mellow, played so elegantly. Definitely a fan
Excellent playing and a wonderful A tune ( written by Steve Martin?) I bemch trains for graffiti and monikers. Claw Hamr is a moniker writer whose usual image is a face with ‘Claw Hamr’ for its details and /or a one-stringed banjo. I’d recently learned that claw hammer is a banjo-playing style, so this video is especially enlightening. Thank you!
Great cover. Steve Martin is very under rated as a banjo player. Did you learn to play from your granddad. I know he’s been known to pick up a banjo now and then. Nancy D told me to listen and I’m impressed. I listened to this and shady grove and liked them both. Whatever your doing keep it up.
This is so beautiful. This might be your best performance yet. Phoebe, I hope you're well, thoughts seem to cloud your namesake's radiance as you play. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Looking forward to your next one!
Phoebe, I think you discovered a new music form. I can hear sitar type phrases in your playing and incorporated with the rythem of clawhammer music, it sounds kind of cool. Can you experiment with this. Thanks
it's like going through a vortex of time and sunshine, i love it. reminds me of John Fahey's mystic american guitar tunes, check it out I believe you'll find inspiration
Did you know Steve Martin is actually bald and has been wearing a hairpiece for decades now? But he's doing it smart, because the hairpiece has been thinning over the years, so people don't notice it. Anyway, nice playing.
What tuning are you using for “The Great Remember? I don’t subscribe to You Tube Channels, but got sucked in on “Witch Doctor” as I frail a lot of tunes alien to the Trad police. e.g. “I sing a Song of the Saints of God.” (G) or the Fifties ditty “Thunder Road” (Open C) by that famous folkie, Robert Mitchum. The “William Tell Overture also fits perfectly I within Open C tuning.
This was great! The rising phrase like at 0:13 reminds me distinctly of this lute tune by David Kellner--probably just a coincidence, but the mood of the piece feels similar, too. You can listen to it at watch?v=4Wnta4IsIaM
I found tab for it on Banjo Hangout, it was in bluegrass style (unfortunately for me, but I translated anyway). Update: I've since just gone ahead and bought the Steve Martin Rare Bird book...this tune is clawhammer, but there's many others in Scruggs style.
@@lonshelton5129 In a tutorial with Abigail Washburn, she would use her index finger on the second string, and then on the next beat use her middle finger on the first string. Odd technique (to me, anyway), but it worked for her (less hand movement involved, actually).

I wanna take you with me when I go mining and you could play for us. I can image some good stew and bread by the evening fire fresh bathed from the lake and just sitting quiet while you play

Idk, but she stinking deserves it. Love this kiddo. It's just a matter of time.
I love this song. Makes me bawl every time. You got the emotional edge perfectly @phoebe
hi Phoebe, sound beautiful and I think steve martin will love it too, God bless 😅
I've been playing banjo for a long time and I must say this young lady plays really good. The touch is warm and inspiring..
There is different types of banjo playing but she seems to be pursuing the pure form so far
Phoebe you are brilliant ❤️❤️🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I can't tell you how much you've improved my day. Please never stop doing what you're doing. Love the song!
Excellent rhythm and dynamics.
Love your skill and how you play so well considering your age. I mean that as a compliment. Thank you for sharing.
You are very talented. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic playing!
Thank you young lady for blessing my day.

Beautiful, wondrous playing Phoebe! Thank You!
The Elvis calendar is nice touch considering the current news. Well played.
Yeah. She’s had it up the whole time though.
Her family has instilled some classy musical roots in her for sure.
Love this song, wonderful job.
you play that so beautifully! Thank you for sharing.
I love the chrome banjo strap too, where did you find that?
Awesome!
Wow!! Just wow!
Touching!
Amazing
Clawhammer for the win! What a great rendition of The Great Remember. ❤
I really love this song and you play it beautifully! Thanks for sharing this with us!
very soothing, I'm honestly tempted to get a banjo rn
This is the song that pushed me over the edge to get a banjo a couple years ago. It has that effect on people. 😉

So well done! My favorite of his tunes, and you did it beautifully!
Better than the Steve Martin version, and very reminiscent of Incredible String Band. Fantastic playing
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful well played tune ,reminds me of the Irish Bouzouki
great

I'd like to hear Phoebe play song "Dopico" , recorded by Mimi and Richard Farinia in the 60's, Search You Tube.
What brand banjo is that?
🙂👍
I would love to learn how to play this one. Enyones know about a lesson somewhere?
There's a tab in Steve Martin's book.
Great job. Did you learn it from the Rare bird alert book? I love this song.

Phoebe, do you use your right-hand middle or index finger to play notes?
I use my middle finger; it extends farther than my index so it's easier to hit the notes
